Just had Olive on the dog and bone, I called her earlier and told her I was getting pelters from King Frank and his various aliases about not signing anyone. She was adament Roman and the board wanted to bring in 2 players, She heard Ake and Zaha early doors but Chilwell, Dembele and Sancho were also targets, although more for the Summer.

A lot of chat about others and lots of super agents on board. She was getting fed up with having to host them all. The bottom line appears to have been money, she heard Roman saying he has "been taken to the cleaners" (his slang english is so good now 😁) so many times in the past and regrets a couple of recent "panic buys" in January.

Word has it that Lamps is not happy and was making a point to Roman Today by dropping Kepa, ignoring Batsy off the bench and playing Pedro but Roman is thick skinned and will accept that. Poor Olive has worked so hard recently and only had 4 hours sleep last night between serving Caviar to Roman, Bruce, Pini and Marina plus all their entourage to getting up this morning and being draped overboard to ensure the bow line was polished correctly. 😊She will be back in the Summer and as my good friend from School I salute her. Thanks Olive😏😏.

It's very difficult to complete deals, however credit to G8 for being able to confirm where the interest was via Olive. Just because the club has strong interest it doesn't mean that the transfer will happen.

Credit to G8 for the insight and for making the posts very readable. Thanks mate.

G8, you and Olive have made a lot very well laugh!
Thanks to both of you!

I’ve been viewing the site on a regular basis over the last week and I would like to add my thanks to the many posters who have praised the work of all the Eds.

I would also like to thank all the posters who have, as usual, expressed there opinions with passion.

One particular post, I think it was from “J”, Was in my view brilliant in the way supporters/ posters view our mainly young team through the twists and turns of a season.

While it’s obvious we have some posters with split personalities, it doesn’t mater because it is so obvious and anyway, all there views are just as valid.

COME on MY MIGHTY BLUES.

{Ed047's Note - he was getting pelters on the radio commentary I listened too, apparently Chilwell was continually roasting him.

01 Feb 2020 21:24:22
He looked like he started very well (kept Chilwell back) in the first half but faded away in the second half (like he lost concentration) . There's no doubt that the talent is there, he just has to humble himself and work very hard (I believe he will get there) but I think he's still quite raw at the moment. He should work on his press and runs (esp behind defenders when there's a transition to attack from the midfield) . Well he's still a kid and his stamina is still growing.
He's good one-V-one and, so I think he should work to improve other parts of his game esp his game without the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 23:13:31
Started well, completely missed the ball for a first time shot which was embarrassing, has spells of being really good and others of not being in the game at all.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Feb 2020 00:51:29
He was decent but i'd like to see him on the left more often. I understand him and Reece can link up well on the right but you take away the option for him to cut in and shoot. End product isn't great yet so i wouldn't expect him to be banging in goals every game but i think he'd definitely look a lot better.

Thoughts on Tammy guys? We do need a new striker. I'm a Tammy fan but don't think he's top level quality although our wingers don't create enough chances. Dembele seems number one target but I'd like to see the club go for Raul Jimenez if it was up to me. Still early days for Tammy so I think an experienced complete striker like Jimenez would teach him more also.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2020 17:23:50
has to be some1 clinical if your talking about replacing tammy some1 clinical like werner etc but your not gaurenteed hel be clinical in pl. we need to concentrate on a world class winger or potentially rising world class winger . JADON SANCHO number 1 target. i would take jiminez to challenge tammy . id also look for a creative midfielder who l take d burden off tammy a bit an chip in with goals something d current crop can't seem to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 17:37:40
I think Tammy is still learning his craft; I guess no striker hits his prime at age 22. Based on what he has done so far, I give him pass mark.

01 Feb 2020 17:53:26
As a PS to post have just sent in defending TA - who is surely one of the better young strikers around - I would still like to see Giroud used more in remaining part of the season not least featuring in Bayern Munich games where his European experience v valuable and of course CFC to bring in additional fire power in form of likes of Timo W. and Sancho in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 18:08:36
Not sure why but my first post not on before my PS but the point was that the article in Pride of London (9 November last year) was arguing that statistically TA in very good company with those strikers who score a lot of goals as a result of taking a lot of shots and getting into many positions to score even if missing chances. Apparently in Champions League TA conversion rate v low, but still above Messi's and Ronaldo's. though may be hard to believe.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 18:28:47
We're talking about a young player who has been involved in 16 goals in the league this season (13 goals and three assists) . He is only going to get better.

It's short sighted to want to replace him, but he needs help and another striker who can score goals playing alongside him.

I posted a week or so ago about fans changing opinions on our young players over the course of the season. From just hoping they get a chance, to thinking they're top quality and then thinking they're never going to be good enough.

Tammy and Mason Mount are the two that seem to have been targeted the most with negativity. Too many fans are concerned about immediate success and not building a team for the future.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 18:34:52
Agree J this is a building process with a young team and manager though all want some additional quality in terms of attacking/ scoring firepower added in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 19:32:01
Let me tell you which player makes an immediate impact at Chelsea - Jack Grealish. The guys is absolutely brilliant.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 20:15:09
Tammy is still young and has shown plenty of the range of skills needed to be a top class striker. Interestingly, his conversion rate when compared to others may not be as bad as some - including me - have sometimes wondered when seeing him miss a great chance/ s (as happened again today) .

Here's a link below (from Pride of London) though to a piece comparing him with some other top strikers, reflecting that he does have poor conversion rate in Champion's League but that Messi does too! So clearly it's also about how/ whether a striker can get into positions to miss as well as score if this makes sense.

But point is that top teams usually have considerable goal threats from a range of players and more than one trusted striker and at the moment so much of the burden of expectation on TA given lack of assistance in this respect is to play every important game and score more often than he does.

tammy abraham shooting percentages

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 20:36:08
like i keep saying the rest of the team needs to chip in with goals to take the pressure off tammy he can be and he will be good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 21:24:50
Unless things improve we must sign a first choice top striker and let Tammy develop at a slower pace.
He has been grossly overplayed for his first season at the top level which has been obvious for a few months now.
Likewise someone good enough to start in Mounts role who hasn't delivered a goal or assist for months.
Similar situation with CHO.
The only youth player who looks capable of featuring regularly is Reece.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2020 00:17:17
hard to disagree there turvey but again i think for the first goal james got caught a bit flat footed an it allowed the shot away he can be beaten a little easy at times when some1 drops the shoulder in the box and changes direction but he's learning and i don't blane him too much for that goal to he fair just making a point hel keep learning defensively and its were he probably needs improving on slightely as his forward play and crossing is phenominal the kid has ridicolous talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2020 11:14:00
As we were looking at Werner, Cavani and Mertens, I think we will be bringing in a player that can also play wide - this will allow Tammy to continue as No.1 CF but also have cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 14:41:34
Very lucky to get anything out of this game. The most unlikely goalscorer of a brace - Rudiger.

It just goes onto confirm how poor we are at scoring goals these days given that our CB has had to bail us out with headers.

I think it's fair to say that Tammy has had a great opportunity this season to show us what his capable of and cementing his position in the team long term. Barring the initial goals at the start of the season he has been poor at best. He misses far too many chances week in and week out. Poor hold up play. He did that last year at Villa too. He hasn't cut it out for me and not good enough.

I would rather see Giroud play now who will be able to help us in our unlikely quest for the top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2020 15:02:45
I think your being really unfair on Tammy. He started the season like a rocket and has come off the boil slightly. His hold up play has improved considerably and we always miss him when he doesn't play. I just think that to say after half a season, when he has become integral, that one of our youngsters isn't up to it is unfair. And we can also remember that he is playing no where near 100% fit.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 15:12:09
i thought his hold up play today was dreadfull to be honest he got bullies around the park anytime he tried to get in front of his mab.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 15:44:38
Tammy misses too many, played through the pain today and worked hard. But when crosses come he “flaffs “ at them, doesn’t seem to attack ball with any conviction. If tammys one on one or free header your 50/ 50 as to weather he will score, like morata was, we needed a gunman, someone who gets a half chance and turns it into a goal,

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 15:52:23
He was playing through an injury so it'll be harsh to criticise him today. He hasn't been himself for a while but when it's his first season with the first team and considering the amount of games he's played it's no surprise he's struggling. Same with Mount, gets a lot of criticism and shouldn't really be starting but there's no better options and he's playing through the pain barrier too. Would hope Giroud is given a go after the break because i agree Abraham hasn't been clinical enough for a while and i think Giroud would eat up Reece's crosses. Break comes at a good time, Pulisic should be back and it's more time for Ruben to gain fitness.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 16:00:46
I suppose that comes to the crux of the problem at Chelsea. Do we stick with these talented but green youngsters and hope they are good enough to build a great side out of. I would do that but I do think at a big club like Chelsea time will always be a problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2020 16:13:45
I may sound harsh but the truth is we are Chelsea and we need a top class centre forward who bails us out of problems. He is 22 years old and could be considered young but I would prefer a striker who has more body balance, power and finesse when it comes to scoring goals. I just don't think Abraham is good enough to lead our line unfortunately.

I've seen a lot of Tammy Abraham last year at Villa alongside my brother who is a Villian and I'll be honest he was the same last year too. Needed many chances to score a goal and that was at championship level.

I may be wrong and he may turn out to prove me wrong and if he does il be the first to congratulate him.

01 Feb 2020 17:03:36
Josh I hear what you are saying but it's a risk probably worth not taking in my opinion. You need a balance of class, experience and youth but this team is too much on the youth side.

But my preference would be Werner or Dembele. More achievable.

Seeing a lot of doom and gloom from various Chelsea places (and no I don't have twitter but maybe that's where it has started! ) saying that it's all well and good wanting to not overpay and not wanting to sign mediocrity, but that we aren't going to be able to get the top targets that we want in the summer if we don't get top 4, and that the teams around us all strengthening makes that much more difficult. I'm just wondering, Ed, if you can tell us how much the whole "top 4 finish" really affects a club's transfer activity outside of the money (which I understand is significantly improved getting into the champions league. Liverpool for instance built a lot of their current juggernaut of a team with signings made from outside the top 4 if I'm not mistaken? Thanks Ed.

{Ed002's Note - It makes it easier to attract players if CL is on offer.}

01 Feb 2020 15:02:34
Ed002, you already gave a list of players that Chelsea are looking at, but would you be kind enough to say which positions in particular will need to be addressed?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I gave you a list with positions included. There is no spearate "in particular" list. Of those players some will no longer be there (e.g. Bruno Guimaraes and Reinier Jesus) and others will come in to contention. If players decide to leave the club will also need to decide where is stands.}

Am i the only 1 that notices rudiger must lose possession about 20 times every game he has no composure what so ever every time he gets the ball he tries a hollywood pass an loses possession 9 times out of 10 surely the coaching staff must have told him after well over half a season working with him start playing it simple. good performance overall missing chances as galore do and wel end up losing 1-0 again.

Love to know why Reece James doesn't take free kicks or crosses. Our best passer and crosser of the ball he scored a few for Wigan. It's always either Willian or Mount with a poor set piece.

Hey ed that's for your continued updates throughout jan and onwards, I'm sure I speak for everyone it's very much appreciated
Hope you had a good drink not transfer window shut.

My personal opinion I'm glad for once we didn't panic buy had targets didn't come to fruition and unfortunately didn't strengthen. But few injury free runs I think we will be ok.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club were never going to over pay for players. That was the issue.}

01 Feb 2020 13:15:00
Ed002, surely this will be the same issue in the Summer then; if it is the case of Chelsea wanting to dictate the price in a seller’s market?

The likes of Sancho, Chilwell, Werner will all not suddenly droop in value nor will their clubs turn around and say “help yourselves” in June.

if anything, their hyper inflated prices will only be more inflated given the Euros. So it is then a case of Chelsea having to shop in the tier two/ three market and try to get players who “may” be good/ or who are slightly past their peak.

All in all, it does not make for great reading when Chelsea refuse to pay the going rate, because it ultimately means we can forget about signing first choice options.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Everything you have written is just rubbish.}

01 Feb 2020 14:30:39
CFC5091

Who did we miss out on? The player you've listed were not avaialble to anyone.

The players we were linked with appear to have been overpriced.

I can think of two players that moved that could have been options for us. Haaland (who was very expensive for youngster) and maybe the chap from Brentford (would have been a big gamble) apart from that, nobody.

If we'd missed out om someone I'd undertsand, but I think that this window was always looking difficult.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is trash - nothing he said is true and he simply does not understand the situation.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2020 07:37:10
Good morning guys; I honestly prefer us not signing any one than signing someone that isn't good enough. It will be difficult qualifying for the UCL (fourth place) next season but I think our players can fight to make it happen- sure that'll lead to a lot of them improving even more.
* Giroud can bring something, I think he should be given more playing time.
It is clear to all now that - good players cost good money, and clubs around us are/ have strengthened. I just hope we can strengthen very well in the summer.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2020 05:48:00
Ed001, I wanted to discuss something with you. Is it really worth it for a big club to keep three strikers at a club if they play with a single striker formation?
The only big clubs that have three strikers are Arsenal, Real Madrid and PSG (the latter two only because of circumstances) .

One of the things that will happen in such cases is that one striker will find it hard to get minutes just like Giroud at Chelsea. His Euro future is on the line and yet he wasn't allowed to leave even though he doesn't get to play.
I just think it's disrespectful if you force a player to stay just to serve in cases of injury emergencies.

Ed001, your thoughts?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I suppose it depends on the players at hand. In the case of Chelsea, Abraham is a youth forward in his first full season playing for the club's first team, so he would have been expected to be the 3rd choice. Otherwise, you would have to question it, as it does seem to be a waste of resources to have 3 first team strikers and only play one up top.}

01 Feb 2020 10:40:52
I think a lot of clubs, at least in many other leagues, usually just go with a promising talent as their third striker option, and I also asked yesterday if not using a player like Broja, who's supposedly quite a promising talent, as a striker would be decent.
On a side note, the club that I'm supporting in Denmark sold one of their two strikers yesterday, and are now left with one striker who even has a pretty bad injury record, so at least three strikers is probably to be preferred over just one 😂.

Well, I feel for frank, not saying club didn't try but this is a kick in the teeth really because I ( and even frank by sound of it ) don't think this squad will hold of United and spurs. We were offered Isco and our other targets weren't available, Will our top targets be getable without champions league football, plus the money we'd miss out on, loads of reaction online about the board haven't backed frank because there not confident he can get top 4, others saying marina should go and no different to woodwood af United, but time to get behind th me team again, James should be first name on team sheet and if his starting then Giroud ahead of Michy, if Tammy not fit, pulisic needed back, RLC back is needed too, anjion is it from development squad is exciting and Gilmore so let's start with 3 points v Leicester!
