I'm hearing big rumours that we are trying to guzump Arsenal and get Rabiot in before the deadline - any truth, eds?

Mrs Costa

1.) 30 Jan 2019 18:43:24
its clear for all too see he's already signed for barca.

02 Jan 2019 22:47:22
To win football matches you have to score goals - to score goals, you have to create chances - regardless of having 20 or 40 or 80% possession, you have to create chances.

Kante should not be playing out of position. Jorginho has been found out and cannot play when he is pressed. God and Sarri alone know what position Barkley is supposed to be playing; Ross certainly doesn't seem to! RLC still plays with all the urgency of a Sunday afternoon kick about with mates. Morata? Words fail me!

Mrs Costa

1.) 03 Jan 2019 00:01:38
Surprised this wasn’t put on others to be honest.

2.) 03 Jan 2019 14:39:07
And why's that, Standard? Are we only allowed to read posts that you agree with on the main page?

3.) 03 Jan 2019 16:35:28
The problem of the team at the moment is coming from the attack. They aren't scoring a lot of goals and not pressing so much. The attack problem is rippling down to the midfield (thus Jorginho) and consequently to the defense.

I have been told by a Spanish journalist friend: 1) Guardiola will be Arsenal manager next year; 2) Wenger will be England manager after the Euros; 3) Ancellotti will be Bayern manager; 4) Mourinho would like to be Man U manager but will probably end up at City; 5) We will have a tough job persuading Simeone to come to England.

Alan Pardew anyone?

Mrs Costa

1.) 18 Dec 2015 17:54:03
I have a terribly hard time believing any of those, except for the Simeone one. And I feel Mourinho will end up at United, hence Mendes' choosing of the word "regret" regarding Mourinho's sacking.

2.) 18 Dec 2015 18:41:01
Ancellotti to Bayern is a slam-dunk - the others? Not so sure. Jose to United has to overcome Bobby Charlton's opposition.

3.) 18 Dec 2015 21:37:57
Mourinho to United would just be the worst thing to happen. With their funds and him as manager they'd once again dominate English football. At United under Ferguson, no player was bigger than him or the club. And Mourinho would probably be the same. So he could flourish there. I really hope it doesn't happen.
Ancelotti to Bayern, Pep to City, Mourinho to United and then some guy to Chelsea sounds about right.

4.) 19 Dec 2015 22:41:39
Mourinho to United will dominate EPL again? Maybe for just less than 3 seasons with consequent breakdown of all he had achieved within that period. Short term. Like I said when Klopp was available, we must go all out for Guardiola.

5.) 21 Dec 2015 21:07:32
For the above rumour how anyone feels that MOU will go to Man u Is beyond me! One Victor Valdés is still there which means De Gea would eb fighting for his spot? Mou sold Mata so now Mata who has played up to his potential since his switch will now sit? MAN U LIKE CHELSEA NEED SOME REBUILDING NO CHICHORITO NO DI MARIA NO LUKE SHAW (INJURED) GIGGS IS THE MAN FOR THE JOB AND AS A MOU FAN I FEEL HE WOULD Mle team worse with what they have now! He needs a tram he can rebuild that don't have players who hate him and I can't see MATA being such a vital part of the team and problems in Defense as Mou being a help rather then a hinder.

16 Dec 2015 17:21:53
1 question to come out of the Leicester game: is Hazard leaving for Madrid in January or next summer? Also, while Vardy and Mahrez are getting all the plaudits I think Kante is there outstanding player and I would love him at Chels.

Mrs Costa

If you look up 'Sarriball' in Wikipedia it says: 'flatters to deceive'!

SON.

Mrs Costa

1.) 18 Feb 2019 21:58:59
If you look up Costa it comes up as average coffee!

SMS.

2.) 19 Feb 2019 07:18:59
Sorry Tom but got to agree with Costa. Sarri way out of his depth, proved that last night. Has to go before the season gets worse and miss out on Champs League again.

3.) 19 Feb 2019 07:53:59
Doesn’t make you a bad person Adam. Everyone is entitied to there opinions.

4.) 19 Feb 2019 08:53:17
Spot-on, Costa - Sarriball starts off looking attractive and exciting but is really boring and sedating (and ineffective and easy to combat) . Sarri really hasn't got a clue - is it Willian for Pedro or Barkley for Kovacic? CHO obviously is persuaded to stay because he likes getting splinters in his backside. Alonso is obviously suited to Sarriball because of his tremendous defensive abilities. Luiz is best in a back 4. Jorginho is a powerhouse at the apex of our midfield. Kante is best as an attacking midfielder. Sarri obviously believes all of the above otherwise why wouldn't he change!

07 Feb 2019 11:58:51
Hello chaps - I'm back! Been laid-up with man-flu since last weekend but am now fighting fit and able to reflect on the Huddersfield game. I bet you've all been waiting on tenterhooks, go on, admit it.

Anyhoo, I found it interesting that the players that seemed most motivated were the same players that Sarri had reportedly gone head to head with after Bournemouth (Hazard, Luiz, Azpi, Barkley) . The positive stance on this would be that those players have responded to the kick up the backside and are now Sarri converts (I'm not sure that Sarriball would have Hazard picking up the ball in our right-back position! ) . Our recent history tells it differently though. Were those players doing it for the manager or for themselves? The next month (City twice, Malmo twice, Man U twice, Spurs) will tell us everything we need to know.

Positives: Barkley - by far his best game in a Chelsea shirt - he seemed to be using his own initiative and attacking flair rather than simply recycling the ball sideways as he has been doing.
Higuain - I never thought that I would witness as good movement from a Chelsea forward again after Vialli, but Higuain might be as good. How I would have loved to have seen Vialli and Higuain in a Chelsea shirt in their respective primes.
Hazard - when he's on this form, he's unstoppable. Why he doesn't do it every game will probably remain a mystery.
Kovacic - I think Kovacic is going to cause Sarri a big problem because I think Kovacic is better at the Jorginho role than Jorginho. Is Sarri man-enough to admit this and drop his teacher's pet?

Negatives. Is Sarri-ball so circumscribed that it has to be the left-sided midfielder who is the most attack-minded? Wouldn't it be more sensible to play Kante on the left to shore-up our left-side defensive weakness and play Barkley on the right?

We were very fortunate to be 2 up at half-time; Huddersfield missed a sitter at 0-0 and our penalty was a) questionably a foul; b) outside the box. At 2-0 down, Huddersfield, who had looked dangerous on the break, simply laid down and rolled over in the 2nd half.

If you're not going to start CHO at home to bloody Huddersfield, when are you ever going to start him?

Mrs Costa

01 Feb 2019 10:37:35
The bottom line is that we have lost 5 of our last 12 league games. This is a crisis and the buck has to stop at the manager's desk.

If we somehow fail to win at home against the worst team in the Premiership tomorrow, Sarri will have to go.

Mrs Costa

1.) 01 Feb 2019 13:37:21
And then the next manager and then the next manager yeah?

What about the players who have stitched up the previous two managers who actually won something? Or doesn't that fit your agenda?

2.) 01 Feb 2019 14:18:32
The press are already coming out with usual “the manager has lost the dressing room” mantra and the players are coming out with the usual “we support the manager” tosh.

When the board appointed Sarri they were aware this was a project and Sarri also made it clear to the fans.

Just for once can the whole club, board, players and fans, see something through, like Man City and Liverpool have done.

We will win tomorrow very easily and that will paper over the cracks for a while but I fully anticipate more problems this season and I don’t think we should expect them to be resolved until next season.

3.) 02 Feb 2019 00:25:05
Mc1993, I would love a manager to come in and stay for a decade and build a squad - but I don't think that manager is an ageing Italian who has never won a trophy in his whole career. Wtf were Abramovich and Granovskaia thinking!?

As for the players, can you imagine Ferguson whining after every match 'I don't know how to motivate my players'? How much is Sarri being paid - and isn't a big part of that largesse paid because a manager is supposed to be able to motivate his players?!

Sarri is just not a good enough manager for the Premier League - I'm hoping that Lampard develops rapidly and is our long-term manager.

30 Jan 2019 21:25:06
How long do we have to put up with this nonsense before we accept that Sarri is just not up to the job of managing a top Premiership club! Get rid now and give Zola the job for the rest of the season.

Mrs Costa

1.) 30 Jan 2019 21:37:30
Yep let's sack another manager, that will fix it! Let's overlook the fact that this team has been on the decline for a long long time and we don't have any leaders. At this point I think Hazard is gone both by the way he's playing and how the team is playing and I honestly wouldn't be that bothered. He's become so used to being the only attacking force it has actually become our detriment. pass the ball to Hazard stop and wait for him to do something rinse repeat. Looking forward to seeing what Pulisic can do in his place. We also need a goal scoring midfielder and some fullback who will provide some serious competition. Sacking the manager is not the answer and is only putting a bandaid over the issue, I had the same opinion when we sacked Conte. We can't keep doing it or we'll have no one left to hire.

2.) 30 Jan 2019 21:46:22
i agree maybe sacking somw of these over paid superstars is the better option an the person whos responsible for buying so many rubbish players.

3.) 30 Jan 2019 21:52:07
100% agree hazard has become the problem very good player narrows the pitch hardly ever shoots never goes to by line and crosses always cuts in whatever side of pitch he's on same as Pedro and willian
I feel for strikers torres costa less so, bats morata giroud and higuin in 2 matches have seen no service whether crosses from by line not 40 yards out from middle of pitch by azpi or through balls our forward play for a long time is narrow, predictable, cut back in, no width, pass back, pass across, and pass back again
Most teams are wide at back and get narrower going forward formation wise and we pass around this semi circle endlessly since conte and now sarri why OUR PLAYERS NO LEADERS NO BOX TO BOX MIDFIELDER NO CREATIVE MIDFIELDER NO NO NONSENSE CENTRE BACKS NO LONDONERS CARING. NO CENTRE FORWARD GETTING SUPPLY. THE ONLY PLAYERS IN THIS TEAM I WOULD KEEP ON HEART

KEPA

LUIZ NOT A GOOD GAME BUT HAS HEART
AZPI
KANTE
GUTTED.

4.) 30 Jan 2019 22:06:14
It’s either sack the manager or change 70 percent of our squad to the players he likes.

5.) 30 Jan 2019 23:45:36
gianfranco gola, GUTTED? Is he a new signing?

6.) 30 Jan 2019 23:31:31
I agree, a lot of people on here will be like “it’s his first season”, but they’re deluded, we should not be in this position, we’re lucky that teams like Arsenal and Man united have underperformed.

7.) 30 Jan 2019 23:51:56
I'd agreed. if sari was to change things and learn from his mistakes but he doesn't . same team and same subs every week.

players out of position

I know CHO is young and rare but what does Pedro or Willian offer.

8.) 31 Jan 2019 00:05:14
No, no, no - I'm sorry chaps but I can't let this go without reply. In normal circumstances I would totally agree that it is premature to be suggesting sacking the manager - but, I'm sorry, this is different: the manager is useless! Hazard looks back on form and happier last week playing on the left - so Sarri decides that he should be played through the middle tonight - why? I correctly predicted his substitutions at half time - any one of us could - the one player that he refuses to ever take off is Jorginho - why? Losing 2-0, Sarri replaces a proven goalscorer with Giroud who scores once in a blue moon - why? Does Sarri have a plan B - why not? Every team we play now high presses on Jorginho and stops us tactically in our tracks - we can see it - every manager we come up against can see it - but Sarri can't see it - why? CHO, even at 18, cannot perform any worse than Pedro and on a par with Willian - we can see it - every punter on TV and radio can see it - Sarri can't see it - why? And last but most - Kante is not and never will be an attacking midfielder - Kante is the best defensive midfielder in the World - but Sarri refuses to see it - why? Why, I'll tell you why, cos Sarri is a middling manager which is probably why he has got into his 60s without ever having won any trophy. These are the 'whys' Sarri has to go.

30 Jan 2019 18:35:53
I can't place my finger on why but I'm really excited about tonight's game. Just seeing Higuain's movement against Wednesday has whetted my appetite.

Mrs Costa

1.) 30 Jan 2019 20:59:18
lol bet your not excited now.

I truly believe that Sarri has been told by the powers that be that, if he wants to keep his job, he needs to give CHO and RLC more minutes and be more flexible in his tactics. Because he has listened to these words of 'advice' (threat), his job is now safe until the summer.

It will make my weekend if it is confirmed that Sarri is leaving - goodbye to the lack of creativity, the crab-like possession football, the unimaginative like-for-like substitutions, and Higuain - Yippeeeeee.

gg, you may have noticed that I am not a great advocate of Sarri. I accept that others have a different opinion but I just don't think that Sarri is very good - there is nothing that I have seen this season that persuades me that he is a top manager.

At least give me credit for being consistent in my criticism - I just don't think he's good enough for my club. SON.

We seem to have a parallel history, Tom, if not a similar view of Sarri. This is the 1st season that I have a Disabled Person Season Ticket and it's brilliant - I get to take a 'helper' with me for free so am in great demand by friends. This is something where Chelsea seem to be ahead of the game and congrats to them for that - I just wish their recruitment was as up to scratch! SON.

MattM, the thing is we won't know whether they're good enough until we give them an extended run in the team. I do agree that it may be a bit early for some (Mount, Dasilva, Palmer) but I think CHO, Aina, James, Tomori and Abraham are ready to step up (and I think we should be giving Bakayoko another chance) .
