Hi Ed002, seeing an article the other day jogged my memory for asking whether you know if Tammy Abraham is a target for the club? I think that his contract contains a buyback clause that is active at the end of this season, is that correct? Of course, whether the player would consider a return is key to any potential transfer too…

Hope you’re keeping well. ??

All the best,

Steve.

Steve_B

{Ed002's Note - There is a buy back clause but he is not top of the list of targets.}

Many thanks for the clarification Ed, much appreciated.

Hi Ed002,

With regards to Chelsea's interest in van Dijk, I note Southampton are being steadfast in their want to hold onto the player. is this a front to the media or is there a real possibility that Chelsea (or a. n. other team) will be unable to secure a deal this transfer window?

Thanks again for the Sharkopod; out of interest, who chooses the soundbites for the Sharkopods, you or Sparky?

All the best,

Steve

Steve_B

{Ed002's Note - They have told Chelsea that he is not for sale. My PA dug out all of the soundbites but I pick what to use.}

1.) 11 Jan 2017 10:04:58
Safe to say we won't get Van Dijk then. It's a shame that we couldn't get a deal done for Süle as I reckon he's just as good, if not better already than Van Dijk. I guess it's the dream of most German footballers to play at Bayern, but surely Süle realizes that he'd have a much better chance of displacing Cahill than displacing Boateng or Hummels.

2.) 11 Jan 2017 13:31:45
With Ake returning I'm fairly happy to miss out on Van Dijk.

3.) 11 Jan 2017 16:27:02
Add long as we're only willing to spend big on the best players I'm happy. Van Dijk was always likely to be a bidding war anyway.

Hi Ed,

The other day I noticed some of the media linking Chelsea with a move for Umtiti. any truth in that? If so, would any potential move be related to the Rahman interest?

Many thanks.

Steve

Steve_B

{Ed002's Note - Lyon's Samuel Umtiti has attracted the attention of a number of high-profile clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal and Chelsea asked about his availabilty during discussions about another player. O'L don't want to sell and are negotiating a new contract for the player.}

1.) 26 Jun 2015 19:44:17
Thanks for the info Ed, much appreciated.

Hi Ed, you mentioned recently about Kenedy to Chelsea being all but done. is this still the case?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve_B

{Ed002's Note - No, there are two issues to overcome first - one easy and one potentially show-stopping.}

1.) 28 May 2015 19:29:25
Thanks for the update Ed.

Hi Ed,

I know that Varane has been on Chelsea's radar for a while now. Do you believe that Real Madrid would allow him to leave in the Summer or are they determined to hold onto him?

Many thanks,

Steve

Steve_B

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea maintain their interest and there is a chance a deal can be done. There have already been a number of discussions about him, at one time involving another player.}

1.) 05 Jan 2015 15:31:32
Ed if he did come and that's a big IF would that be Terry's replacement or would someone like Ivanovic or Cahill move on?

{Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that.}

2.) Many thanks for the clarification Ed.

I can well imagine a Zouma/Varane partnership for France in the near future. if there would be a possibility of that happening at Chelsea too that'd be amazing.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously Terry is getting older and his future will inevitably involve less games. The club are balancing this against the cost of installing stair lifts.}

3.) Haha. I could just see there being a commercial sponsor for the stairlifts.

Cheers Ed!

Steve

4.) At what point does Varane get sick of starting so little games for Madrid and realise that he'd be an integral part of our team? I'm guessing that Jose loves Varane so he'd certainly have his trust and play a lot of games.
Also as Ed stated, Terry isn't getting any younger and won't be able to keep playing every game.
It's not just that Varane is really really good, it's also that he's a near perfect fit.

5.) Jackson, I remember an interview with Zouma saying how impressed he'd been with how Varane had developed under Mourinho and that he was hoping for the same kind of progression himself at Chelsea. A Zouma / Varane partnership is definitely a fantastic prospect. keeping Omeruo, Kalas, Christensen, Aina, etc. onside would be an interesting challenge.

6.) I want to see our own players make it as well, I really do. Guys like Kalas, Omeruo and Christensen, I want them to succeed.
However, if there's a chance of getting Varane we have to get him! He's an exceptional defender already and none of our own young players have played at the level he's played. If it's a possibility then he's a must IMO :)
Kalas seems like a good choice to take over Ivanovic' role in the team and Christensen is still young. They can't all make it, and too much talent is never a disaster ;-)

7.) Is it only me that would love to see mats hummles?

8.) Can't speak for anyone else but I'm not a fan of Hummels. Not mobile enough IMO and he's never looked very good when I've seen him play.

9.) Hummels is so ovverated. Very unimpressed in him.

Pls get varane haha

10.) I shall not mention my admiration of hummles again (crawls slowly back in cave) haha

11.) Ha it's just that when I've watched him he's been poor.

Pretty sure he's united first choice target though

So, it appears that Courtois could well be on his way. My preference would be Alisson however it seems he may be Liverpool-bound. who should we be looking to sign if, as thought, a keeper with strong distribution is required?

I don’t think Pickford is viable btw. any alternatives?

Steve_B

1.) 17 Jul 2018 16:39:41
Pickford had great World Cup but when I see him for Everton I don’t rate him up there with Courtois Oblak Allison ter stergan etc, if Courtois goes then rival Liverpool., we would be able to cover half the cost st least by selling Tibo. If not Oblak but I imagine it’ll be harder / more expensive to get him.

2.) 17 Jul 2018 16:31:33
Worst case we could always get Keylor Navas from Madrid in any deal for Courtois. Oblak would be my choice, but I can't see that happening.

Pickford and Butland could be lesser name options.

3.) 17 Jul 2018 17:00:38
Well I would hope we have another keeper already lined up if we have agreed to sell courtois.

4.) 17 Jul 2018 17:37:10
Don't discount Allison. There have been so many rumours about him going everywhere. I wouldn't discount Jack Butland as an alternative. He's a good keeper playing in front of dire defences, come through the ranks, 6'5" and at just 25 starting to reach maturity for a keeper.

5.) 17 Jul 2018 21:24:52
Could it be that Alisson doesn't fancy a move to Chelsea.

6.) 17 Jul 2018 21:26:35
Chelsea can still get Alisson.

Hi Ed,

Would Chelsea consider trying to sign Thomas Müller or is it a complete non-starter?

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks Ed. should have looked there first.

Hi Eds,

Is the signing of Lewandowski completely out of the question for any team other than Bayern? Would Chelsea be interested in signing him if there was an opportunity to do so?

Thanks.

Hi Ed,

Just wondering whether Aubameyang is a player that still interests Chelsea?

Thanks.

Steve_B

1.) I'd hope so Steve, he is a player who will become world class. i'd rather have a player who will become world class for 20m rather than one who is already reached world class 50m+

2.) Well said Tommy!

Luke {Ed018's Note - i also would like to see Chelsea go after Aubameyang if they miss out on Cavani}

3.) Good to see we're all in agreement (well, three of us and Ed018!).

Aubameyang offers versatility in that he can offer width as well as being an upgrade in the striking department. Versatility and youth seem to be two key areas for our recruitment strategy, so Michael Emenalo, if you're reading this. sign him up. :)

Hi Eds,

Hope you're well and keeping sane!

Are Chelsea representatives watching any prospective transfer targets at the U21 European Championships?

Many thanks. {Ed018's Note - I'm sure they have people watching but I couldn't tell you who}

A player who can take a decent set-piece? Sign him up! In all seriousness, I think he could offer a lot to the team….

I’ll wait until the announcement becore judging re: length of contract. There are different rumours regarding this…one makes more sense than the other to me (3+1 as opposed to 5). As a player he certainly has qualities we currently miss…hopefully (if he signs) he’ll adjust relatively quickly.

Whilst Rudiger is doubtless imperious right now, part of me thinks he still remembers it was only a short time ago he was close to leaving the club…his happiness (and good form) could only be a managerial change away.

For me, I’m more concerned as to Christensen’s contract situation, after all he’s also improved massively, is younger and let’s not forget counts as a homegrown player in European competition.

Hi @Ed001, I read your comments above with both interest and a smile on my face, as agree with you on Simeone’s impact on Saúl. I then noted this excerpt from the initial words from Saúl joining Chelsea…

”Chelsea have promised me to train in my position, to play we will see. To return to certain customs that I do not do now, that is the most important reason for my decision. ”

Let’s hope Tuchel works his magic with Saúl!

Steve_B

{Ed001's Note - I think he will be a brilliant signing. I did say a few weeks back that Saul would be my fantasy choice signing for Liverpool and I haven't changed my opinion on him being a great player because he has signed for a rival team. I am excited to see him play in the Prem to be honest, though I do wish it was with us rather than Chelsea!}

Thanks for the article oscarAY. The main issue I have with the team is around not seeing identifiable methods, structures and patterns of play. Conversely, that is definitely affected by the bloated squad and injuries, particularly to key players.

A pre-season with a trimmed down, settled squad would be the ideal position, hopefully with Potter and his team in place.

I’m assuming that Trossard was available for that price as he was available for transfer (rumours of disagreements with DeZerbi however not sure how accurate they were) .

Potter is very much a coach who favours build up play to include the goalkeeper, Sanchez at Brighton very much fitted that criteria so in that sense it is natural that Kepa is favoured right now (just my take on things) . I’m hoping that the GK position is the focus ahead of next season however the potential options may be slim….

Ed002 will doubtless provide clarity on my (mis? ) understanding of such an event. I think that if a player formally requests a transfer it has implications in that the players owning club would not have to settle his contract, whereby if a club actively sells a player the selling club have financial obligations to settle the players contract. I may be very wrong though!

Steve_B

{Ed001's Note - they just forego the 5% of the transfer fee they otherwise would get.}
