The silver lining from yesterday's failure to win is that we can start being honest with ourselves and concentrate on 3rd / 4th place. We were never going to win the league - Sarri is right, we are miles behind City and a couple of laps behind Liverpool. We have to aim to win our mini league of us, Spurs, Arsenal and Man United - and Man United losing and Arsenal drawing yesterday was far more important for us than Man City and Liverpool winning.

1.) 12 Nov 2018 17:48:33
That is spot on, to be honest we are doing better than anticipated, if we can get rid of Lomé deadwood and get a couple in the jan window. Then see where we end up. We are defending better but I’m sure we can do better still. If the truth be known if not for piCKford we would have won easily yesterday. However in the past we would of lost those sort of games. Leo onwards and upwards.
Only slight disagreement is I’m not sure how good Liverpool are, I think city are away again. Bu
T we could catch the scousers. If we did I wonder how patient they would be with Klopp then.

2.) 12 Nov 2018 20:14:50
Please don't call the fringe players deadwood, it's disrespectful. Any player who wear the Chelsea jersey, should be supported and respected, no matter whether or not they are good enough for the first time.

26 Oct 2018 22:34:58
Antonio Conte and Chelsea have resolved their financial dispute with Conte reportedly accepting a reduced payment allowing him to join another club - Conte to Real? Hazard to stay?

1.) 30 Oct 2018 05:38:26
Another twist- Santiago Solari as interim manager.

22 Oct 2018 15:22:48
The Times are reporting that Kante is not happy with his new position and will be looking to move next summer.

I sympathise with his view and have posted before that he isn't suited to an attacking midfield role.

Our most balanced midfield three is increasingly looking like Barkley Jorginho Kovacic.

It's a conundrum.

1.) 22 Oct 2018 16:00:54
That's just the opinion of Tony Cascarino, I wouldn't read too much into it.

2.) 22 Oct 2018 20:58:24
One of those stories with no evidence behind it I'd think.

3.) 23 Oct 2018 00:44:00
I am guessing a lot of people felt and still feels that Sarri should structure his midfield to be like this (with Kante preferring to sit in front of the defense as in) :

. Kante

. Jorginho. Kovacic

but Sarri prefers the structure below (with Jorginho sitting in front of the defense as in) :

. Jorginho

. Kante. Kovacic.

4.) 23 Oct 2018 15:55:32
Kante is indispensable, he brings a lot of balance to the midfield.

20 Oct 2018 16:11:23
If Hazard is stopped or has a quiet game, we have nothing else.

1.) 21 Oct 2018 04:08:09
I presume that Hazard knows that and he wants the club to do something about it.

2.) 22 Oct 2018 21:03:05
Problem remains lack of a striker who, well, strikes on a regular basis, problem we've all known about since Costa left and after Morata's early scoring form when joining deserted him. plus in general lack of much of a goal threat from those up front other than Hazard. Can only hope and pray that either Morata starts finding the net again far more regularly or we strengthen up from come January. The race for top four looks to be a particularly tough one this year even if United some points behind at this stage.

3.) 22 Oct 2018 21:07:27
would add that I hope Hudson Odoi gets some game time soon, presumably will in cup games you'd think, though our problem mainly perhaps lack of someone, proper striker, on end of chances who can ruthlessly/ confidently tuck most away.

4.) 23 Oct 2018 14:49:39
Once again. Hudson-Odoi will not be played while he refuses to sign a contract.

5.) 23 Oct 2018 15:06:52
Issue is how long does he have left in existing contract before he becomes a free agent?

{Ed002's Note - He is a child still. Don't try and discuss all of these ridiculous things about the children.}

6.) 23 Oct 2018 15:53:07
Ok Ed002, obviously you are more experienced in these things and from your reply there's something you know about Hudson Odoi that a lot of us don't know. I pray everything works out well for him and the club. You know what always gets me thinking about him is the reported interests that I read about him all the time.

{Ed002's Note - What you are constantly not getting is that he is still a child - he still attends school, he cannot train as many hours as adults, there are different contract rules, etc., etc..}

7.) 23 Oct 2018 16:08:50
Ok, aaaahhhh! Sorry man, I have being missing it completely, wow! Thanks Ed002.

25 Apr 2018 10:54:43
Interesting that we're being increasingly linked with Koulibaly and Elseid Hysaj from Napoli - is this pointing to Sarri as next manager?

1.) 25 Apr 2018 13:03:17
Think ed said after his recent comments and opinion racial and sexist that he isn’t in our list of targets? Ed could confirm.

{Ed001's Note - that's what I believe yes. He has made loads of them throughout his career which would have caused mayhem here but no one bats an eyelid there.}

02 Sep 2018 14:38:24
Is Marcos Alonso the new Gareth Bale? Should he be switched to an winger and relieved of his defensive duties?

1.) 02 Sep 2018 16:17:33
Good point, but I don't think it would work. He hasn't got the burst of speed to be a winger, and which of our current wingers would he be considered an improvement upon?

2.) 02 Sep 2018 16:34:13
Pedro? Willian? Play Alonso on the right to cut in on his left. Ps Mahrez isn't that quick either.

3.) 02 Sep 2018 17:51:36
Whichever way you look at it Alonso is not a left back BUT how could you leave him out on his performances so far? Pedro is solid 45 minute player and his willingness to shoot from range is a big bonus against packed defences.

4.) 03 Sep 2018 13:51:14
I said he was a great player in the summer and was ridiculed.

5.) 05 Sep 2018 13:13:40
Very good player (M. Alonso) his eye for goal is amazing. I see him as one of the top three left backs in the world. Though he needs to improve in certain areas of his game like other left backs around.

02 Sep 2018 13:44:19
As an aside, did anyone else notice the poor condition of our pitch? I know it's been hot but has there been a hosepipe ban in the Fulham Road?!

1.) 04 Sep 2018 15:27:23
It's been like that for years. It's sand based which means it cuts up a lot easier

I don't expect them to do anything major to it if there's a new stadium in the pipeline.

02 Sep 2018 13:42:30
I know I know, we've won our first 4 games blah di blah di blah - but come on, Luiz couldn't defend his way out of a paper bag! Even yesterday, Bournemouth missed 2 sitters before we scored and both times it was down to Luiz losing his man. We will win nothing with him in a back 4 - Oh! how I wish we had got Van Dijk. Sort it Sarri.

1.) 02 Sep 2018 13:59:17
Miss Wood, I’m not a massive fan of Luiz but playing him in defence gives us a defensive playmaker. I guess it’s a question of what you prefer. Is it an out and out defender or a ball playimg defender.

It’s reasonable to argue that Christensen gives us both.

2.) 02 Sep 2018 16:07:12
I agree that Christensen should play but I think it is not an out and out / playmaker, it is a lack of a leader; we have been sadly lacking since JT left; neither Cahill nor Azpi nor Christensen nor Zouma nor Rudiger are leaders - Luiz is a leader but he can't defend! That is why I believe that we should have really pushed for Van Dijk, to play alongside Christensen.

3.) 02 Sep 2018 17:41:02
Good points Miss Wood.

06 Aug 2018 13:37:35
So what did we learn from yesterday?
1. We still rely heavily upon Hazard and Kante - without them we are average at best.
2. Luiz and Alonso are not suited to a back 4 - don't know what we do about this.
3. Jorgino and Fabregas cannot play together in the Prem - neither can tackle or run.
4. We still have a massive amount of deadwood - why are Cahill, Moses, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Giroud, Fabregas, still at the club - none of them are good enough for a top 4 team.
5. Tammy Abraham makes more incisive runs and looks far more of a handful than Morata.
6. Hudson-Odoi has to start - I don't understand why Sarri hasn't played him on the right-wing allowing a 3 of Hudson-Odoi Abraham Hazard.
7. Ross Barkley flatters to deceive - he does something good and then vanishes for half an hour - if you speak to any Everton fan, they will chuckle before telling you that he was exactly the same at Everton. I predict that Barkley will become deadwood by Christmas.
8. We desperately need 3 more players including a GK. Ramsey and Zaha will do for me plus Kasper.

I predict a long, hard season.

1.) 06 Aug 2018 15:45:18
You’re a joker, Drinkwater was in a team that won the league, Fabregas has won the league with us twice, Giroud has won the World Cup and Cahill has won everything at club level with chelsea. All of these players were starters.

We’re not good enough, but stop scapegoating players. Cheer up, don’t be so negative. You’re taking football too seriously.

2.) 06 Aug 2018 15:49:59
We desperately need Zaha or any fast winger, that can terrorize defences to complement hazard Doug at the other flank.
I don't know what fabregas is still doing at the club.
Then we need to change Granovskaia.

3.) 06 Aug 2018 16:22:20
Standard spot on sir.

4.) 06 Aug 2018 17:15:59
That's ridiculous, Standard - players get older and slower - yes, we should celebrate the contribution that Fabregas and Cahill have made to the club but their time has gone - why not bring back Zola and Dennis Wise? Cos they are not good enough any more - that doesn't mean that I don't bow deeply before them still. And are you really saying that Drinkwater and Giroud are good enough if we want to compete with Man City and United? And are you suggesting that we should sign Leonardo Ulloa or Jeffrey Schlupp or Wes Morgan, all of whom have also won the league!?

5.) 06 Aug 2018 17:16:23
Trouble is that we cannot offload certain players to bring in new
The eds have consistently stated who is available ie drinkwater etc but at the wages and prices wanted or paid are too high
Clubs are leaving it late to see if expectations are lowered
Hence no to little movement in a lot of top 6 squads

Live in hope but no expectations.

29 Jul 2018 09:25:21
Fingers and toes crossed that the Aaron Ramsey rumours circulating today are true.

1.) 29 Jul 2018 10:33:04
I’m not a massive fan of Ramsey. So I won’t be crossing any fingers or toes!
To me, he is just a slight upgrade on Drinkwater!
We all have different views on what constitutes a good player I guess.

2.) 29 Jul 2018 10:51:30
Say what you like about him but he scores goals from midfield and has been impressive against us in recent years! Could be another to leave the cosy atmosphere Wenger created at the club and push on and show more consistency. I wouldn't be opposed to it although it would be the end of RLC at Chelsea 100% and would limit Barkley's chances I would have thought.

3.) 29 Jul 2018 11:21:01
At some stage our club and some supporters have to decide what they want.
A fit Barkley could be good for us this year and warrants a chance.
Although I’m not convinced about RLC it’s a decision the club has to make a decision? Play him, sell him, or loan him out again.
I assume Drinkwater will be sold or loaned and Bakayoko has not shown in two friendly’s this season the improvement he showed at the end of last season but I live in hope!
For me, I would love some insight into what’s going to happen to Cahill and the very absent Zouma?

4.) 29 Jul 2018 12:19:00
Ramsey will fit very into this Sarri's system. Better we get him than Vecino. Also he's a UK citizen.

5.) 29 Jul 2018 12:42:07
Can’t see it myself and if the Ramsey rumours are true then why did we not just get Jack Wilshire for free.

6.) 29 Jul 2018 13:26:50
Ramsey is 10x the player Wilshere is or ever will be. I'm still not sure if he's the answer though.

7.) 29 Jul 2018 13:30:59
He would make sense.

8.) 29 Jul 2018 16:08:01
Ramsey had better minutes to goals than firminho last year, covers so much ground. Scores goals and is creative, my only issue is his size with kante and Jorginho and keeping him fit. If Ramsey was to replace drinkwater then that’s huge huge upgrade,

9.) 29 Jul 2018 20:43:35
id rather gamble with barkley dan ramsey don't see how he can improve us average at best.

10.) 30 Jul 2018 07:04:45
Maybe the coach might have plans for Loftus Cheek who enjoying his 'unending' holiday.

11.) 30 Jul 2018 10:58:26
Isn’t Ramsey after a new contract? So what’s the best thing to do. leak supposed interest from another club. Same as Pickford.

I have only see Pulisic play 3 or 4 times but I have been underwhelmed - at a reported £70m there are much better options out there.

If Hazard wants to go to Madrid, good luck to him - he has been brilliant for us. I hope that he signs a 1 year extension to his contract so that Madrid have to pay his true value (£180m? )

Ampudu is 17 - Hudson-O'doi is 17 - personally, I don't think RLC is good enough and should be sold - Bulka is 17.

Ed002 is right - they are schoolboys gaining good experience training with the 1st team squad.

If the FA were to impose rules regarding HG players in match day squads that were seen as too stringent, wouldn't that just further encourage a European breakaway league?

You played really well to your game plan and probably deserved your point - loving Gomes - and Mina looks a good buy.
