Chilwell's season might be over, according to the reports. That's put a bit of a dampener on the superb team perfomance last night.

Indeed. Sad day for all of us.

who will play at LWB? Azpilucueta or Alonso or even Saul - Saul played as a LB some times at Atletico Madrid. OR are we going into the January transfer market.

Who do we have from the Academy?

2.) 26 Nov 2021 07:00:56
If true in regard to Chillwell, I think you'll see Mr Reliable at LWB against better teams (he can actually defend, although a little hesitant on attack) and Alonso against the lesser ones ( he thinks LWB is actually LW) . I'd actually love to see Saul given a go there, I know he'd rather be in midfield but, given the depth of our squad and his limited minutes to date, I think he could potentially be the answer, he is a very intelligent footballer. Maatsen needs to stay on loan, gain experience and playing time and come back next year as Chilly's back up once we finally get rid of (sell) Alonso. LWB or RWB, the last word in those positions is Back, they have to defend as well as attack, I'm more concerned about who we will have as back up to James next year tbh.

3.) 26 Nov 2021 09:38:12
Dave was the best LB in the Premier League when he used to play there regularly. That was a few years ago, though.

4.) 26 Nov 2021 11:29:41
Pete, I agree about Maatsen it would disrupt his development to be brought back in January to sit on the bench. We don’t have any obvious cover James as Dave will be covering LWB and like the rest of us he isn’t getting any younger. I’m sure TT and the board will be looking at that. Let’s hope Chilly doesn’t need surgery and will be fit again on the New Year.

5.) 29 Nov 2021 07:07:57
Exactly Jimbo, Ed002 has mentioned on several occasions that LWB is not an issue for Chelsea ( I'm presuming because they see Maatsen and Chilly from next season) . Maybe they have similar thoughts in mind with Sterling as James backup next season. Left or Right wingback is a young man's game as the energy required to both push fwd and track back makes it probably the most demanding position on the field. BruCe, I agree re Dave, but that was as a LB in a 4, great defender first and foremost.
I'm sure the club is thinking ahead, rather than the fans "right now". Maybe the club even see letting unhappy players ala Liveremento go with a very reasonable "buy back" as the future. The gap between the acadamy or under 21/ 23 level, and EPL level is huge, especially at a club like ours, and those players have little or no chance of getting "game time" to help that developement, when, to be fair, at our level, every game is a must win. Ed002 has said on numerous occasions, that Chelsea "rate" Callagher, and see him as a definite possibility in the future, but, starring for a Championship club is not EPL level! He has certainly lifted his level this year at Palace, and could hopefully/ maybe make the step up to Chelsea level next year.
Ed002! I'd really appreciate an update of where the management see our loanee's/ sold with "buy backs" futures at this time? I repeat, at this time, as who knows what the future holds.
Sorry for the long rant lol.

{Ed002's Note - I very much doubt I used the word "rate". Chelsea will look to integrate Malang Sarr, Xavier Mbuyamba (who could be loaned out), Ian Maatsen and Conor Gallagher. No decision yet on Billy Gilmour and Broja who may get another loan. The club are watching these players carefully and it looks like Baxter might be the pick of the goalkeers.

6.) 29 Nov 2021 16:50:55
Curious that they would look to integrate Sarr, but not Colwill. He's also left footed, just like Sarr. But has better athleticism and is playing very well for Huddersfield already. Unless the plan is to get him a PL loan after this season, after which he can return to the first team with PL experience under his belt (hopefully) .

{Ed002's Note - He is younger and less experienced.}

7.) 29 Nov 2021 16:45:18
Ed, anything on Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu?

{Ed002's Note - In what respect?}

8.) 29 Nov 2021 16:45:18
Ed, anything on Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing specific.}

9.) 29 Nov 2021 20:45:19
Fair enough, Ed. Indeed he's still super young, just that he's been phenomenal so far this season. But I wouldn't mind a second loan for him either. As long as there's a path for him back to the Chelsea first team, and we don't sell him like Guehi : (.

{Ed002's Note - There is a plan for all of the players but those who are wanting to leave like Gueli and Tomari will be sold.}

10.) 30 Nov 2021 05:18:17
Sorry Ed002, probably should have said" the club are closely following his development with each loan, and hoping that his level rises to the point where he could be integrated into the first team squad at some point in the future". Rate was just quicker after my rather long post.
Keep up the good work Ed002, and all the other Ed's, and thanks so much for your input, it is much appreciated by all of us on here :-)

{Ed002's Note - All Chelsea loanees have someone assigned by the club to monitor their progress and help out if needs be.}

11.) 30 Nov 2021 14:34:13
Could Chelsea look at recalling Maatsen or Emerson if Chilwell's injury ends his season?

12.) 02 Dec 2021 09:55:15
You should have heard the scream or wail (at the bar where I saw the Chelsea vs Juventus game) - when Chilwell got the injury against Juventus, it was like someone died. I think it doesn’t take rocket science to know that the success (transition and creativity) of a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation demands so much on the wingbacks. The club has to start looking at strong backups to Reece James and Ben Chilwell from as early as the January transfer window (whether it’s from within the club or buying someone) - otherwise, I am scared we might not reach our Eldorado.

Football’s been so sterile without fans. It’s great to hear them back in the stadium.

1.) 18 May 2021 23:49:08
It’s so obvious that fans make a game more than a game.

Apparently, some owners don’t know that.

I’ve seen Ziyech’s goal a few times now and I have to say it was a really good finish. He had to reach for the ball as it was behind him and then direct it toward the net.

1.) 18 Apr 2021 16:31:42
My thoughts exactly 👌🏻 That could have easily gone wrong.

2.) 18 Apr 2021 16:34:33
His best game for Chelsea so far Bruce he played well.

3.) 18 Apr 2021 17:04:57
Yes he did and produced some wonderful. moments in first half.

4.) 18 Apr 2021 22:54:49
Kepa had a good game too.

17 Feb 2021 21:41:45
The Dutch commentator (I live in the Netherlands) on the RBL - Liverpool match last night wasn't impressed with Upamecano. Only one match, I know, but maybe we dodged a bullet there.

BruCeFC

1.) 17 Feb 2021 23:18:26
I watch Leipzig as my 2nd team and he's always been a player who has played at times 'risky' passes to try beat the press. He's done it since Ralph Hussentl (however you spell his name) was our coach. He isn't bad at ball recoveries but his passing needs to improve. He got caught out at against Hertha Berlin too, but he's still very young so in sure this part of his game will get better.

2.) 18 Feb 2021 09:03:47
I watched some of the Leipzig game v Liverpool and noth Liverpool goals came from abad pass/ defenders slipping but the commentator has said that Leipzig generally has a v good defensive record this season so presume this was just an off night?

3.) 18 Feb 2021 11:03:43
Leipzig are, defensively sound because they usually press the opposition and concede very few chances a bit like City.
However that is the Bundesliga not the PL or European competition which can be a very different proposition.
I have seen him play 3/ 4 times in the CL and he looks what he is a very raw kid who has a lot to do to become a top CB.
To put it in perspective he isn't as good as Kurt defensively.
I can see exactly why we wouldn't be interested at this stage of his development.

4.) 18 Feb 2021 11:52:48
Comparing Upamecano and Marquinhos PSG v Barcelona - I know who I'd rather have. I can't see why PSG would sell though.

5.) 18 Feb 2021 13:38:24
Yeah Leipzig against Liverpool in general was pretty poor, no player really did themselves justice. Sabizter the captain, who would be one of the two players I'd sign from Leipzig for CFC was pretty bad and when he made the back pass for salahs goal even before Salah shot head his hands on his head, he knew. It was just a poor night in general, usually very sound.

6.) 18 Feb 2021 13:43:27
In terms of him being not as good as Zouma, I would actually disagree. In terms of playing forwards from defense he is a lot better (all be it the misplaced passes at times) in terms of defence positioning, both aren't great in that but have the pace to recover, but upamecano is only 21/ 22, Zouma at his age should really already have improved this but he hasn't. Zouma clearly better in Ariel duels though. I can see why CFC would of been very interested in Upamecano but on flip side, I can see why they didn't make a offer for him.

7.) 18 Feb 2021 17:15:58
Mc93 Interesting posts Mc93.

8.) 18 Feb 2021 19:12:50
Agree Mc93 Zouma is quite good in the air in defence and at set pieces but poor at one-on-ones. However, he is a liability when playing the ball from defence: he is not the type of CB to have in the team if you want fluid transition.

12 Feb 2021 11:22:53
Not the best performance last night but the pitch and the conditions didn't help, and we ground out the win, which was the most important thing. The goal line clearance from Abraham was superb!

BruCeFC

1.) 12 Feb 2021 11:59:47
He should have had at least one penalty as well.

He was one of the few pluses in the performance IMO.

There's not been many, but the names of some we've sold to Spurs - Carlo Cudicini, Gus Poyet, Jason Cundy (loan), Gordon Durie, and we've bought a few from them as well.

Maybe the Champions League winners medal in his sky rocket helped persuade him to stay another season.
