I must say that some of the cliques on this site are like a love in. I could say that we have the best players, the best manager, the best board and we will win the quadruple. That will give me lots of clicks on the thumbs up symbol and I will be hailed as a "true blue".

On the other hand, I could assess what we are, and where we are, to the best of my ability, which might give rise to a more realistic, less favourable outcome. At this juncture, I will be tarred by some as a pessimist and somehow anti-blue.

Fact is, I've been a season ticket holder for most of my adult life and have attended matches for 47 years. During 26 years of mostly misery (in terms of results) from 1971 to 1997, my only dream, one that I thought I would never see in my lifetime was to win the FA cup. So all of this is a bonus.

Courtois, Caballero, Eduardo.
Alonso, (Kenedy), Moses, Zappacosta.
Cahill, Rudiger, Luiz, Christensen, Dave.
Kante, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Fabregas.
Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Musonda.
Morata, Batshuayi.

people will see a glass as half empty, others half full. That's different personalities for you. Some of us will be afraid to dream as a way of protecting ourselves from disappointment. But please don't forget that in the rich tapestry of life, we are all blue.

Blue to bone!

The above post got me thinking about what makes a negative post!
For me a poster who just says a player is "crap" or certain members of management deserve the "sack" with no explanation or rationale are negative. Some people have made comments such as "our club is a joke" without telling us why they have reached that conclusion.
Just to make statements without a rationale stops debate and just makes other posters give a thumbs down or (and I have done this) just answer with closed comments such as "your wrong". This just kills any meaningful debate.
Everyone is allowed an opinion and this site allows us
to express that opinion but please fellow posters, give reasons for your comments.
Anyway, these are just my theories. As I've now retired I have far to much time on my hands and I've realised that being negative about any subject, is just a waist of precious time and energy!
Let's hope our season brings us all nothing but happiness!

I come from the same generation as TomB and to date we have probably disagreed more than agreed and that is what makes the site interesting, personal perception. He is correct, calling a player ‘crap’ is pointless as it is a word for frustration, give us something to debate. You may get slaughtered by others but it is opinions versus opinions. In this modern era after Chelsea never setting the bar too high until Abramovich’s arrival, I expect Chelsea to be up there with the big clubs year in year out but do they make errors of judgement, to right they do but there is a faction on here that will not accept any form of criticism and out come the ‘he’s a troll’ ramblings. As I expect Chelsea to be at their best every time I am more inclined to focus on why I think they are falling short win or lose and where I consider the players or manager are failing; my opinion only but there are so many obsessives who just will no see that the club, whether they like it or not, make mistakes. It’s over now thankfully but the transfer window in recent years worries me. We signed some good players but at season end I would hope Conte was ‘asked’ what he needed and possibly who but I cannot believe he had Lukkaku, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Barkley on his wish list in any shape or form and given the Cuadrado, Rahman, Hector and Djiloboldji type buy I worry about the relationship between those that do the deals and any manager. I have no doubt Mourinho’s fall from grace was enhanced by transfer dealings. My second fear is that a manager virtually all supporters have taken to their heart as he acts like one of us, Conte, will be gone any time from Christmas onwards because of the transfer situation.

Putting wish unknown wish lists to one side!
I hope Conte stays with our club for many years. He is the best signing the club have made for a long time.
I do have concerns about the length of his present contract (two years) and what effect this has had and will have on players joining our club.
I believe we've seen the effects uncertainty about a managers committment can have on players at a club and the recruitment players. Players just look at the situation and maybe just think why should I commit my career to the club when the manager hasn't.
I know Conte has signed a new improved terms contract but the length of that contract has to, in my opinion, be extended.

5.) 03 Sep 2017 18:03:43
I hope Conte does stay with us for a long time. However our recent history of transient managers suggests that this may not be the case. I believe the club have learned to not give Long contracts when they know how quickly a clubs fortune can change. All a long contract does is give us an almighty pay out if and when the manager leaves. I assume the club have spoken to Conte and he is aware that they would like him to stay and the contract can keep being renewed. This gives us the option of longevity without needing to pay huge sums of money if it doesn't work out. This is only my opinion of course and could be well off base but it seems to make sense in my mind.

I think we have 7/ 8 players who will bust a gut to get into the first team which is a positive. But Bakayoko aside, the starting eleven hasn't improved, so I can't see us being a force in Europe. Conte should be able to keep a smallish squad happy, but we are still 2/ 3 players short. We needed two additional world class wing backs due to the impossible shift that Moses and Alonso will be asked to put in (Kenedy should have gone) . And Llorente would have been an experienced aerial threat as cover for Morata (the Bat isn't good enough) . To retain the Prem the defence will have to play out of its skin, Bakayoko will need to be player of the year, Hazard has to be even better and Morata has to be every bit as good as Costa. I think we'll do well to come in third and Conte will go at the end of the season. Conte will want a crack at PSG or similar if we can't spend huge to attract the elite. And we all know that we are not at that level.

Some people just see the negatives in everything.
We will be CHAMPIONS of ENGLAND come the end of the season!

TomB I would just like to say I think you have been a really good addition to our little group and have really enjoyed reading your posts since you joined. Top poster of the window for me, a true Chelsea fan!

I have used this site for many years. I enjoy it but must admit that I don't understand it. Who are the Eds? Are they club insiders or journalists or agents or other? Intrigued. Whatever, I am thankful for their input.

Our squad has been decimated. Outs and likely outs: Aina, JT, Ake, Zouma (in Rudiger) . Chalobah, Loftus-Cheek, Matic (in Bakayoko who is injured) . Costa (no one in yet) . Hazard injured. The Charity Shield is 3 weeks away and I've got a subs bench of Caballero, Kenedy, Rudiger, Remy, Musonda, ?, ? In just 3 weeks I think we need another 6 players: RWB cover, LWB cover, 2 x CMids (cover), 2 x strikers. And Conte still hasn't signed his contract. Does anyone think I'm wrong about our need for signings? Are there any players I've forgotten about? I am shocked that we've let so many go.

I don't worry that much about it - chelsea still has a large squad but understand where your coming from. Can still imagine Chelsea bringing in a few more - heavily linked with Danilo for right back, heavily linked with Sandro for left. Our hunt for at least 1 striker is well documented, I would also like another midfielder, someone a little creative who could score goals (not sure who that could be) .

2.) 16 Jul 2017 13:02:48
the only players who played often last year were matic and costa, the other six players you mentioned didn't have 20 full games between all 6 of them, so won't be missed, why the panic its obvious we will sign players 3 weeks is a long time, i would understand if the season was starting in 2,3 days but not 3,4 weeks chill out.

3.) 16 Jul 2017 13:14:28
Would like us to add 6 players with players going out still
2 x strikers
2 x cm
1 x wing back
1 x winger / cb depending who,
Sandro is tough one as his one of best in world but it's dragging on with juve playing games, strikers we know who's available so wait and see, midfielders id like is rabiot of psg and try Barkley if we can get him cheap enough. Both maybe won't be first names down but may be good squad players, CB I like van dijk but think that's past now, maybe kouilibaly if Napoli lower fee, winger I like insinge of Napoli but they wanted mega money, but if we can see how thin squad is HOPEFULLY board can,

4.) 16 Jul 2017 14:06:32
All sounds a little excessive.

Two strikers (arguably, Tammy could've done a squad job)

Another flexible defender (wing back)

A cm (but again Chalobah was an option we could've used)

An attacking midfield maybe (if the right person is available although PEA could cover this if we bought him as one of two striker)

5.) 16 Jul 2017 15:28:06
Everyone wants 2 strikers, does this mean no one rates bats.

6.) 16 Jul 2017 16:00:06
Yeah chalobah and Tammy could of done a job. but there on loan so need replacing. I wouldn't say it's excessive replacing players,

{Ed018's Note - Chalobah was sold not loaned}

7.) 16 Jul 2017 16:09:48
Weirder way he gone and needs replacing. And regards to 3 strikers michy would be no2 then either young player ( yeah Tammy could of done a job ) or experienced player, also depends who we get as u want different options.

8.) 16 Jul 2017 17:38:39
Seems unlikely but perhaps the two would be Aubameyang/ Morata/ Belotti and then Llorente. With Llorente being 3rd choice.

9.) 16 Jul 2017 18:21:18
Matic and even Costa might not leave the club. Kennedy can provide LWM cover and RWM cover can be provided by Azpilicueta and Willian. I don't see Batshuayi leaving as well. Maybe we're not going to sign many players, but also we might not sell anyone else.

10.) 16 Jul 2017 20:18:13
Both matic and costa will leave.
