Moises signs a deal, Cole does an interview talking about his future being at Chelsea and Eghbali does some on stage Q&A thing.

Strange timing with the protest coming today. Very happy about Cole and Moises, and it seems Eghbali is signing a different tune which should be seen as a massive positive. Be suspicious of the timing, however. Hope the protest is absolutely huge and no one has second thoughts due to this clear PR stunt.

Great news that Cole Palmer has come out and said his future is with us, Levi is also about to sign a new contract, which means we are securing our best players. Someone said to me Cucu signed a new contract last summer, but I can't remember that being announced?

Heaven the only fit CB for United tomorrow, no doubt he or Luke Shaw, deputising at LCB, will be MOTM in a bore 1-0 win for them.

Great news that Moises has signed an extension. He's been really poor since Liam arrived, after being incredible the prior 18 months under Maresca.

He wants to become a legend here and he is certainly on the right path.

This is the full interview given by our joint-owner, I must say it is refreshing to hear his views and he speaks very well.

Behdad Eghbali has given a rare interview on a range of matters at Chelsea; co-owner addresses transfer policy, head coach Liam Rosenior, Enzo Maresca's departure and BlueCo's ownership strategy; Eghbali says: "The message is: we're committed. "Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the club will start signing "ready-made" players and revealed the departure of former head coach Enzo Maresca was "not a change we wanted to make".

Eghbali, the co-founder of Clearlake Capital, which is the majority shareholder in BlueCo, the consortium used to purchase Chelsea and that also owns Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, has given a rare interview on a range of matters at the club, including their head coach Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea are at risk of not qualifying for next season's Champions League, sitting four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool. They have won just one of their last seven league games, losing their last three, with Rosenior unable to lift the club after Maresca's sudden departure on New Year's Day. Our policy has been no in-season [head coach] changes, " said Eghbali at the CAA's World Congress of Sports conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. "You certainly review and hold not only the manager, but the management team, the sporting team, accountable, but typically in the summers, not in season.

"It's not a change we wanted to make [Enzo Maresca leaving]. It's a change that had a bit of a negative impact in the season, when you're changing systems and personnel, and it's one we've got to fight our way out of. "We still have six matches in the Premier League, and an FA Cup semi-final coming up. So, hopefully the story of this season hasn't been written yet, and you've got a lot to fight for. In my perspective, when you get punched in the face, you've got to fight back, you've got to stand up and fight. And it's going to hopefully show a lot about the character of this squad.

"I think the perspective is stability, and frankly, getting that stability on the manager side is one of the things we haven't done right yet, and it's something we're striving to improve on. "Eghbali has backed Rosenior to deliver success.

"On Liam [Rosenior], we had the opportunity to work with him daily for 18 plus months, so we knew what we were getting, " he added.

"We think he has every attribute to be successful here. He got off to a great start. We've had a tough past five, six matches, but I think we're behind Liam. Of course, it's a results business, but we think he can be successful long term. "

Eghbali also addressed the club's youth-oriented transfer policy, promising more experience.

"The view was to recruit and build elite players that can, frankly, be together and have that stability in the squad. We're still in the 40th, 50th minute of that process, " he said.

"But the view is to keep, sign and retain and compensate and extend some of the world's best players, and ultimately the view was you need, eight, 10, 12, 15 elite players to win and win sustainably, year after year.

"I think we've done a few things right, a lot of things right. We've got to be better on a few things, to add more ready-made players at this part of the project, to take it to the next level, to be consistent over time. "Some Chelsea supporters are planning to meet up with Strasbourg fans to demonstrate against their owners before Saturday night's home game against Manchester United.

Eghbali insisted BlueCo are fully committed to improving their ownership strategy and are focused on delivering the biggest trophies in keeping with Chelsea's approach under former owner Roman Abramovich.

Eghbali said: "For the fans, we care. We want the club to be successful. We're focused on delivering that on-pitch performance.

"I think six months ago everyone was super-happy. Results have been mixed, disappointing more recently. There's a full reflection on what we can do better, what we can improve on. There is a plan. We reflect on the plan. We try to improve the plan and tweak the plan if it's not working. The message is we're committed.

"Can this be successful without winning? The answer is no. We've got to win. And it doesn't mean you're going to win every game, it doesn't mean you don't make mistakes, that you don't have downturns, but ultimately the objective, and especially the objective that a club like Chelsea is, you've got to win, you've got to win trophies, and you've got to win consistently again.

"We were fortunate enough to do so last year. We've had a bit of an up and down year this year, but the objective hasn't changed. ".

My pleasure, Tom. I thought I would share it, as a lot of conjecture about the so-called project from fans and pundits alike, and most of it is individual takes and usually without foundation. Nice that the owner has clarified the situation, and that they are wanting to win trophies now and not in 2030, as we sometimes see used against them.

Also nice that he appears to say more experienced players will be added. I found his comments very reassuring, to be honest, and he comes across as very genuine in wanting our club to compete in the here and now.

17 Apr 2026 21:23:41
I am far from reassured. It looks like a load of company PR bull****. Some of the comments are nonsensical: attracting the world's best players. As for LR, "we knew what we were getting": true, a company yes man. The supporters knew what we were getting, a crap coach
If you want a more objective and realistic analysis of where we are and where we may end up, there is a well balanced online article in the London Evening Standard.

I am willing to have my opinion changed in the summer, but it will be a bad start if we still have that numbskull of a coach in charge.

0

17 Apr 2026 21:34:44
I'm with you, Jimbo. Liam is the problem, and we will be relegated next season with him in charge. The sporting director who appointed him must go as well. Egghead is worried about the project and his company, and will probably shift position, as he knows finance and is not stupid in that regard.

I expect us to change to ready-made players, but we need a manager and not a total clown.

0

17 Apr 2026 21:56:58
Greenaway, which Sporting Director? We have so many, and apparently all of them have contracts until 2031. I thought American companies believed in mean and lean: looks like they're bought into the British culture, in that regard.

We all tend to agree with media articles if they broadly support our own views.

While I am not sure LR will become a successful manager, I do not see him as a "clown" or a "yes man." I assume he or any other manager who joins Chelsea is informed about the structure and its decision-making process. It would appear that LR will be involved in deciding our transfer targets for this summer. I assume that EM was also involved in deciding transfer targets. This appears to be how transfer decisions are made at a lot of clubs now.
Any coach of Chelsea will have his major focus on training, coaching, tactics, and team selection. I doubt that getting in a new coach will change the club's approach or the manager's responsibilities.

I also have minimal problems with the SD headcount as long as they all have clearly defined areas of responsibility and have "one" person with the ultimate responsibility. If there is one person in charge of the SDs, that hasn't been very clear to me.
The protest today was always going to bring about a club response. I have consistently complained about our current and previous owners' poor fan communication. So, when an owner finally says something to the fans, I find it difficult to complain about communication, but I don't necessarily agree with all of its content.

Jimbo, they are, in essence, mainly a scouting and recruitment team, and I have no issues with that, but in my opinion we do need someone, or even one of them, to have total control. Dave Fallows of the existing group would be my choice, as he seems better qualified after working at Liverpool with Klopp, but if we were to bring in someone from outside, I would go for Michael Emenalo, who worked wonders in his reign here before and whose son is starring in our academy.

Sadly I will be missing yet another game at the Bridge tomorrow.

I fancy us to win comfortably tomorrow but I’m not sure why. Fernandez will probably score a couple.

Anyway, Come on my mighty Blues.

0

17 Apr 2026 11:10:35
Certainly, hope it will be Fernandez, not Fernandes, on the score sheet with a couple, Tom!

Sorry you will not be there to cheer the lads on.

Frankly, I don't know what to expect tomorrow night, but I'd think a win for us is essential, but given their points advantage, not so much for them in terms of ECL qualification. Having said that, our home form in the EPL has been largely abysmal all season, and United will be coming off that loss to Brighton, and will probably think we're there for the taking. Let's hope they're wrong, and that EF's return will fire us up and get us creating and taking chances.

Another home loss may see our EPL season disintegrate, and even Conference League football not happen.

Mind you, what do others think: would it be better to have no Conference League (English League One level) football and focus on the EPL and domestic cups? If that is the case, and we miss out on the Champions League and UEFA competitions? Or would picking up another trophy, however poor the competition, be better than none?

0

17 Apr 2026 13:12:57
No Conference League, thanks. I'd prefer no European football if we're not in the CL. Players would get rested during the week, and hopefully the club is going to spend some money on mercenaries in the summer anyway.

0

17 Apr 2026 13:16:42
JBS

We have 'already won it all', therefore, if it's not ECL or Europa, ditch the Conference League.

0

17 Apr 2026 17:25:38
As for tomorrow's game, two mediocre teams playing each other: who knows? If we don't get CL football, I would prefer no European football. There is no glory in the other European tournaments, which are set up to appease also rans. Also, it means more Thursday and Sunday football; you can go months without a 3:00PM Saturday game.

0

18 Apr 2026 05:18:58
Chelsea not being in any European competition would probably not give us many more 3pm Saturday games. There will probably be about 8/9 Premiership teams playing in Europe next season. Whether we are in those competitions or not, KO times will change.

I obviously want us to play in the Champs League, but if not, I'm ok with being appeased in the other European comps. I am sure the Villa and Forest fans are licking their lips at the prospect of a European final.

0

18 Apr 2026 09:52:08
Thanks for responses, lads.

My own view is that the UEFA league is perhaps just about acceptable - if disappointing - as at least winning it guarantees Champions League qualification.

The Conference League again, given we've already won it all, doesn't appeal to me at all, as the opposition is just so weak it's laughable unless you haven't won anything in Europe or any trophy at all for many years.

I have seen Bournemouth play a few times this season but I don't recall thinking that Alex Scott is something special.

I have been told that Chelsea, Liverpool and the spuds have asked about his availability.

I would welcome the Ed's and other posters opinions on this lads abilities?

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - I am not a big fan either. He holds onto the ball too long and suffered a fair few injuries because of getting clattered doing so. I would not be looking at him at all if I was a top 4/5 club.}

0

17 Apr 2026 17:55:45
E001, Chelsea aren't a top five club, so we should sign him. Lol. Seriously, he always looks bang average to me. The last thing we need is another player who spends his time on the treatment table. If that's the calibre of player we are looking at, we are screwed.

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - he seems to be the latest MOTD fever signing online, I would be surprised if there was much in the rumours.}

With four English clubs in European competition semi-finals it bodes well for that extra Champions League spot next season.

I hope Forest and Palace pick up some silverware.

17 Apr 2026 11:13:56
Apologies in advance for my ignorant question Ed001 but would 6th place get CFC Champions League qualification if either Villa wins the Uefa Cup or Arsenal win the Champions League?

0

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - as I understand it, they would need to finish outside the top 4 and win it to increase the places. So if Forest won it, then there would be an extra place.}

0

17 Apr 2026 15:47:14
Ok thanks Ed001. In which case CFC have work cut out to.make Champions league qualification again. something that seemed essential.

17 Apr 2026 18:31:18
A mate tried to explain to me how we could have 7 teams in the Champions League next season. All far too complicated for my old head.

0

18 Apr 2026 10:01:23
If Villa finished 5th, but won UEFA league, and we finished 6th in the EPL, then apparently they would get qualification via the UEFA win, and we would get the EPL 5th spot. Hope this might be true if this scenario happens!

16 Apr 2026 16:39:32
Great news. Moises Caicedo has agreed a new Chelsea deal.

Caicedo handed improved terms to further recognise his squad standing and now set to stay until 2033.

Levi playing for the 21's tomorrow night as well.

Just need a new head coach and we will be fine.

0

16 Apr 2026 18:58:31
Great news, Greenaway! Not so good was Quenda's performance against Arsenal, predictably panned by the Portuguese press. Also, he seems to be another injury-prone player, it seems.

0

16 Apr 2026 19:53:05
Surely you are not writing him off already, Jbs? Give the boy a chance.

0

16 Apr 2026 19:59:13
I'm not writing him off, Greenaway, just managing my own expectations of this young prospect.

0

16 Apr 2026 20:00:35
In other words, will hope he will do brilliantly, but is still in the great prospect category.

0

17 Apr 2026 08:12:50
Caicedo signing a contract extension is fantastic news. In my opinion, it was him who carried the team last season, and not the fan's favourite, Palmer.

The Caicedo drop in form over the last 6-10 games has coincided with the team's drop in form.

0

17 Apr 2026 08:21:57
I agree, Tom, and I put that down to fatigue.

The only way the poor guy gets a rest is when he is suspended, which shows how weak our midfield is due to many injuries.

0

17 Apr 2026 09:43:28
Bill, yes the fact that Lavia has been injured far too often and for far too long, PLUS Essugo getting injured, PLUS Santos lacking perhaps the physicality of Caicedo - and both Essugo and Santos still being young (both 21) and relatively inexperienced in EPL football - has prevented more rotation with Caicedo. So Caicedo's game time has been heavy, as has Enzo F's, and made more so by our participation in CWC.

Palmer has also carried an injury problem and been largely a shadow of his former self in most games he's played this season.

But midfield - even after the sale of Dewsbury-Hall, who had done increasingly well for us and is now shining at Everton - is probably still stronger in depth overall for us than our attack or defense.

My concern about Quenda is not that I write him off, but because of his very serious metatarsal fracture in December last year that kept him out for 4 months. He's only just back, and understandably had v poor game v Arsenal. Kendry Paez has of course also struggled with behavioural problems, then injury, and been getting little game time in Argentina.

Point being, the 'project' to date, focus on buying almost only young players who are still developing, have little or no experience of the EPL and already have a slightly worrying injury/health/unprofessional behaviour record, is a genuine reason for concern. We could add Gittens (injury - and largely underwhelmed when played but still very young and EPL inexperienced) and Mudryk (behaviour) and Garnacho (behaviour at United) and Delap (silly card collecting and lack of calm head?) to that list - and that's, in total, a heck of a lot of money spent on collectively very costly young attacking 'potential'.

Of course I would hope that some among this list will still come good. But we have needed them to play and perform consistently for us this season.

Reliably best of our attackers right now are surely Jaoa Pedro - and congrats to the club for signing him at least - and Pedro Neto, with Estevao also of course having been outstandingly brilliant at times, and someone who, if he can keep frustration/petulance under control and has teammates around him performing well, can become a huge star for us.
