Ake is close to signing for Chelsea. What are your thoughts guy? Ed1 how do you see Ake as a player and do you think this is a good move? Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - he is quick and good technically on the ball, but as a defender he is poor. Positionally all over the place and tends to rely heavily on his pace due to being caught out of position. He is able to play a number of positions but none of them well. I am still shocked City wasted money on him, it is even more shocking that Chelsea would then make the same error.}

I got called negative and to get a grip when I mentions my anger and shock at all for a reported 45 MILLION. Nice to see someone else has the same opinion, what’s the best is when they say “ can play wingback “.

{Ed001's Note - he can play there and in midfield too, but he is equally poor in all roles for me. At least in a back 3 his lack of positional sense can be covered by the others though. And he will get lauded for throwing himself in the way of shots or making last-ditch tackles when he would have needed to do neither of them if he had just positioned himself well. He was nowhere near good enough for Chelsea first time you had him and he has not improved at all, it is the Lukaku error all over again imo.}

Completely agree. I was reading about a few left footed CB’s as I’m guessing the high fee is due to being left footed and versatile. Think it blocks path for colwill and maatsen, then we will have another tomori / guehi / lamptey / livramento when good young players see there path blocked and move on,

Thanks for the insight Ed, I always like to hear your views on certain players. I agree 100%, his always been suspect positionally but like Matt says, your generally called negative if you can't see that he can play 3 positions. I'm actually confused by this transfer!

Ed, I remember Ake at Chelsea, he was all over the place but he was young:unfortunately he hasn’t Improved. I was suprised we got 20 mill for him and even more when City paid 40 mill. Apparently TT wants him which is worrying. How could he have made a proper assessment of a player who has hardly started for City for two seasons- am I missing something?

Ed how does one learn to distinguish between good and bad positioning? Maybe an idea for a youtube video? Otherwise, maybe you can summarize a bit here? Understand if not!
