Jhon Duran would be my choice now Sesko is staying put.

Duran Duran would be better.

I'd prefer Duran to all the options not named Victor Osimhen.

Duran would be fine if he comes in alongside Olise. If we can't sign Olise then I'd be concerned going in to next season without having brought in a proven goalscorer.

Of all the rumoured forward players, my choice would be Alverez.

I can’t say I know a lot about him. I’ve only seen him play on the odd occasion but if I remember correctly he has been described as a “raw talent. ”

Shame about Sesko. I like the look of the lad from Feyenoord.

I quite happy to see jackson develop to be perfectly honest
Finished season well abd a much better player than beggining of year.

Agreed Gianfranco

If Duran is the best we can get then Jackson, Nkunku are a better bet for us and we should keep our money in our pockets.

Apparently Jackson has just picked up a 'serious' ankle injury doing duty for Senegal. Even if it proves not to be as bad as this may suggest it surely highlights need for options in terms of strikers/ goal scorers.

I'm totally there with you GG reference Jackson hence why Duran is my first choice. A good replacement for Broja and the two of them can compete with each other for a starting place and at times play together as well.

If Duran is best we can get?! We are Chelsea! Not saying the lads no good but why we struggling to bring a high profile striker in.

Solanke rumours too,

Just seen that value him at £40m
I was fine with the links, nowhere near as bad as some fear, offered something different, but his a £20m player, max.

If Duran is the answer, I would love to know on what that is based. He's a Villa reserve and about as qualified as a striker as the new manager is for managing Chelsea.

If we can't do better than that, why sign anyone because scoring goals wasn't a problem last season despite losing Nkunku for most of the season.

We aren’t sure how concrete our interest is in the young lad but it might mean we are looking to sign more than one CF.

Anyway, it’s all guesswork at the moment.

Jhón Duran is no better than Datro Fofana. Would rather just give Jimmy Jay Morgan a decent shot, or keep Broja. Surely there are better options? A massive gamble by the Sporting Directors at €50m reported price too.

12 Jun 2024 08:22:36
For goodness sake, he can't even get into the Aston Villa first 11 why does anybody think that he is even on par with the players we already have.

If this is what our recruitment team are coming up with then heaven help us.

Over many seasons managers have not rated certain players but those players have gone on to have significant careers at other clubs.

If I remember correctly we had an interest in the player pre him signing for Villa.

Lots of different guesses about the fee but as always I’m more interested in him as a player and I’ve only seen him a couple of times. I do have one mate who is a Villa fan and he rates him but says it’s difficult for the lad because of the Watkins form.

We are not signing Sesko and we seem to have moved on from Osimhen. I personally like the lad from Feyenoord who for me is a goal scorer but I’m not sure about his work rate when his team haven’t got the ball and that seems to be paramount for managers nowadays.

Well we know the club's first choice was Osimhen but they deemed the price too steep. Sesko decided to stay at Leipzig. Gyökeres scored a lot of goals last season, but he joined from Coventry for 8m and we know a few Premier League clubs turned him down prior to that. I think he's a paper tiger, Felix and Nunez scored for fun in Portugal but struggled elsewhere (though I do rate Nunez), plus he's injured. Newcastle don't want to sell Isak, Villa don't want to sell Watkins. The options are quite limited at this point.

You all know my thoughts on Jackson, even before his late season flurry he has shown enough to persist with despite his scoring touch deserting him at times. Duran offers a lot of what Jackson currently lacks, he wouldn't be my first choice but I can certainly see the appeal. Again, I think bringing Duran in makes sense if we also bring in Olise. If it ends up being Duran + another project then I would have serious concerns. Having said all of that, I would also be inclined to keep Broja.

Look at Mateta at Palace, you surround him with class and a bit of structure and he starts scoring. Who is to say the combination of Jackson and Duran can't replicate that? Anecdotally, most 'bigger' strikers take a while to get into their stride, we could be a season away from a scoring explosion. It's not as though Drogba was the Drogba we remember in his first season, but the signs were there.

And you can certainly ask why the club was willing to splash 60m on Mudryk but not pay for Osimhen, but there is nothing we can do about that.

12 Jun 2024 11:16:16
It's clear our scouting team are a wee bit questionable. Some of our signings have been absurd (disasi 40m, sanchez 20m, mudryk 80m, fofana 75m to name a few) but I haven't even heard of this target so I can't really comment. As long as the fee isn't ridiculous good luck to the guy.

19.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 12:05:52
It could be argued that every clubs scouting system is “questionable” because no scouting system is perfect.

My guess is there success or failure will be based on lots of criteria.

20.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 14:59:20
I'm disappointed with the mention of Duran as the highly talked about striker need for Chelsea. Even more with the kind of ridiculous excuses given to support his candidature. Besides it often comes across as if it's only if we can’t find from among English players before we can go elsewhere. Hence ridiculous reasons to sign a player who can't make villa 1st team to come lead Chelsea attack and we claim to have ambitions. real ambition is mirrored to the striker quality of the team. Giroud was deemed not enough for an ambitions clubt hen but a striker who can't make 1st team impact for villa is now good enough to lead a project starting because he's English.

21.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 15:27:32
Tusole, your continued reference to a players nationality being in some way important is frankly ridiculous.

I’m not even sure Duran is English and I don’t care.

{Ed001's Note - isn't he Colombian? I am like 99.99999% certain of it, but can't be bothered to check.}

22.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 16:13:46
Probably Ed but I’m like you, I can’t be bothered to check.

Of course if he is Colombian that wouldn’t work for his his narrative but ho hum.

{Ed001's Note - he is defo not English anyway.}

23.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 16:39:24
Tusole, he is not English. He is Colombian. Surely to come on here and put him down as a player you must of watched him play? referenced him? know a bit about him? goodness me, just to slate him for being of any nationality is racist?

24.) 12 Jun 2024
12 Jun 2024 17:51:46
Like me most of you probably haven’t seen Duran in action. My issue is that we have plenty of”raw talent “ on our books already. I was hoping that we would bring in proven players for the positions we needed to strengthen. We clearly needed a striker. Also the the fee being quoted is excessive but once again that is not the main issue for me.
