I think at CB we need to push hard for John Stones. We can't allow United to get him before we do. He's already one of the best CBs in the league, he's still very young and he's English! Marquinhos would be good nevertheless. I mentioned Kouyate as a good option for CM but I also like Jackson's suggestion of Xhaka.

He always seems to put in a solid yet unspectacular performance whenever I've seen him play for Monchengladbach and Basel. I know the word unspectacular doesn't sound too appealing but it is something I believe we need right now in midfield, stability and no drama (i. e. Magic with his silly 2nd yellow) .

And I agree on Griezman, he's awesome! Btw I don't know about you guys but I can't wait for Courtois to be back. Begovic has been pretty good but I can't help but feel Thiabaut wouldn't have conceded nearly as many goals whilst he'd have also shored the defence up I think. We've conceded far too many headers this season and I think had we had Courtois in goal this wouldn't have happened, he's such a physical presence!

That's a great point about the conceded headers. We've given up a ton this season and I think courtois' best quality is his ability to come for the high ball.

2.) 27 Oct 2015 02:32:09
Why is Stones rated so highly on here. Yes he's a good player but he's showed he's still raw with some of his mistakes this season. Marquinhos and Laporte are both experienced and have had a lot of game time for their age and would both be better options I think. I'd personally like Marquinhos as he reminds me a lot of Carvalho.

3.) 27 Oct 2015 07:42:37
Marquinhos has been playing CL football as well for a couple of seasons now so he's used to high level football. He'd be a very good addition.
And indeed your point on Courtois is valid. Courtois is exceptional at dominating his area and snuffing out high balls and crosses. Hopefully he can return without much problems in December.

4.) 27 Oct 2015 09:35:16
Stones would be my first choice we already have a lack of home grown players plus you don't know would Marquinhos manage in PL. What we need is left back for sure (left footed off course) .

5.) 27 Oct 2015 16:55:12
I think with John Stones you have to watch Everton games week in week out to appreciate him fully. Not only is he a fantastic defender, he is a fantastic player with the ball at his feet. He reminds me of a young Rio Ferdinand ability wise (obviously not personality wise) . I can't say I've seen more than a few games of Laporte so I can't comment on him but I think that whilst Marquinhos looks like a very intelligent footballer, I have concerns that he might be a little lightweight for the Premier League. Again though, I haven't seen too much of him myself.

I've seen a rumour today linking Schurrle with Athletico with Miranda coming to us. Please tell me this isn't true ed

Saim

{Ed018's Note - sounds like some rubbish to me}

1.) This rumour is a joke, Why would you part exchange one of the most promising wingers in the world for an old and average defender?

07 Jun 2014 17:49:11
Hi Ed, just a question about Mikel. Is it likely he'll be leaving in this window or are the club looking to keep him? I ask because I'm actually a fan of his and think selling him would be a mistake! Cheers

Saim

{Ed002's Note - Yes, John Obi is expected to leave and has been the target of interest from Inter Milan.}

1.) I agree he has been excellent defensively for us if especially in big games (like ECF, against LFC recently etc), if often criticised for slowness or sideways passing when going forward. But if Mikel leaving as well as Lampard and Ramires we will definitely need more than Fabregas as replacement but would guess that all at Stamford Bridge know this. In particular Luiz and/or Ramires were great against City and LFC away, and have not seen enough of Van G. because of his injury to know how well he could do such a job (doesn't seem such an imposing physical presence). Or one of our current Under-21s?

Hi Ed, couple of questions. First, what's Real Madrid's stance on the sale of Varane? Would they allow him to move on if an acceptable offer came in or do they want to hold on to him? Second, have we (or any other team) ever had or have an interest in Rodrigo Caio? Very impressive in the Toulon Tournament!
Cheers

Saim

{Ed002's Note - Whilst they don't want to sell Varane, Real Madrid are aware of Chelsea's interests and are aware the might lose him. As such they have been considering replacements.

I am not aware of interest in Ciao.}

I'm sure many of you are aware but haven't seen a post yet so I thought I'd congratulate our youth team in reaching yet another FA Youth Cup final (6 in a row), the first academy to ever achieve this. Oh not to mention smashing Spurs 9-2 on aggregate! Well done to all the boys and Jody Morris who's doing a wonderful job.

Does anyone know whether highlights are available of that game from Saturday? I'd love to see the performance from those boys. Castillo was apparently really really good.

2.) 20 Mar 2017 17:15:07
Jackson, highlights of both legs on FATV on Youtube. Castillo, Chalobah and Ugbo were outstanding.

3.) 20 Mar 2017 22:00:31
Thanks!

What. A. Performance! Every single player on the pitch played a blinder and we dominated from the first minute until the last.
Courtois back to his best today, went unnoticed by the commentators though. Stopped absolutely everything. Azpilicueta, Luiz and Cahill were solid and stopped everything. Really good partnership blossoming. Moses and Alonso showed yet again why they're in the team, gives us strength all over the pitch. Kante and Matic were brilliant yet again. Matic is definitely showing his form of 14/ 15 and now has 5 assists this season already. Kante has been playing with a bit more freedom in this system and has been a revelation, his goal was taken beautifully. Hazard took his goal brilliantly as well and was very good on the ball. He seems to have his decision making back which is massive for us!

Bring on West Ham!

What I like is the teams playing us don't know who to mark out wide they are lost and tied in knots. But today intelegent movement from pedro today moved their backline all over the shop. Something William really doesn't do well at all.

2.) 24 Oct 2016 11:03:15
Giving hazard and Pedro a free role confuses the opposite team :)

01 Oct 2016 12:22:45
Thought for today? Obviously is a must win match for us after 2 defeats and a draw in the league. I feel it's a good time to face Hull as their heads will have dropped after their good early form. Hopefully the reports are to be believed about Cahill or Ivanovic being dropped (unfortunately both can't because JT still isn't fit) . I would go for Ivanovic and Luiz in the middle with the Spanish full backs either side. I'm glad that Elmohammady is suspended because he's always caused us problems. I personally would drop Willian as he's been poor this season and I would give Moses a start as he's impressed for me. Matic shouldn't start though I feel we can't play Cesc and Oscar in the same team. Possibly Chalobah to step in? I would like to see him but don't think Conte will risk it. Need a big game from Hazard and Costa today to make it more comfortable for us. Hopefully Costa will get his 5th yellow of the season as well so he only misses Leicester next week rather than the United match afterwards! Come on Chelsea!

Great to see Abraham, Palmer and Kiwomya all score important goals off the bench for their new clubs on their debuts, the first two on their professional debuts! Our academy really does produce some wonderful footballers, looking like we're finally going to get to see some playing for Chelsea in the next few years as well! Exciting times! Seen a lot of negativity on this site over the last few weeks, come on boys keep the faith until at least a ball has been kicked!

Nathan got a brace too for Vitesse.

2.) 06 Aug 2016 23:34:06
I can see Kasey Palmer breaking into the first team in a couple of years the lad has it all. Got pace, good build for an attackers and he also has an end product. Two years of loans then bring him into the squad.

After hearing about Nathan's performances for Vitesse last season I thought it was strange he returned there. Saying that, great to see him step it up and show his ability last night.

5.) 07 Aug 2016 12:26:48
Has he got a WP?

6.) 07 Aug 2016 15:02:04
Not sure to be honest. I doubt it though mate.

Hazard phenomenal tonight. Overall performance very very good. Thought Matic looked better tonight (lots of loose passes though) and Pedro was also very bright. Traore looked good and Abraham put himself about when he replaced him. Not too bothered about the result although a win would've been nice. Begovic showed us yet again why he can't be the number one next season though- great goalkeeper but not good enough for Chelsea's starting 11 in my opinion.

Jack is a good mate of mine, met him through a uni mate a few years ago when it was his breakthrough season when Villa got to the FA Cup final. He got a lot of stick that year for his lifestyle but people forget he's a young boy. He's progressed a lot in his time in the championship, seems to have matured a fair bit on the pitch and can tell you he has off it. I asked him to introduce me to JT last year but never got round to it : (.

I think us selling Hazard unless he made it clear he wanted out would be Chelsea as a club showing they're no longer interested in being the best. He is a genuine superstar and probably the reason behind so many younger fans choosing to support chelsea, he's one of the most entertaining footballers I've had the pleasure of watching live and seems like a really decent person. Courtois on the other hand has been good for us but wouldn't say anything special, if he doesn't want to be here I would get rid of him because there are plenty of good goalkeepers around. Ideally we'd keep both though as they are definitely 2 of our most important players.

I must've missed him Joining Spartak on loan. Seems an odd move after 2 successful years at significantly bigger clubs in more competitive leagues.

{Ed002's Note - It was complicated.}

I would rather give Michy, Chalobah, Aina and Ivanovic (CB) more minutes than sign average players in January. Then in the summer assess players like Ake, Christensen and Baker who are out on loan and see if there's space for them in the squad. Then go all out after top class players such as Sanchez, Griezmann, Dybala for the right forward role and possibly go after another outstanding CM like Verratti who I really think is the best midfielder in world football next to Modric (who I've always wished we'd signed all those years ago) . Cover for Alonso and Moses would be great but again I don't think we need to buy for buying sake!

Whilst I do agree with a lot of what you're saying mate about it potentially damaging our upcoming season, I don't agree that we've showed Conte a lack of respect, if anything he's showed our club a lack of respect and the reason the board want him out is because he doesn't want to be here himself. I appreciate what he's won for the club but managers come and go and I'd much rather have one who actually wants to manage Chelsea.

Such a shame it has come to this, especially when you consider Ed002 has a soft spot for Chelsea and always seemed to get spot on when it came to our club! I'm not going to beg you to come back 002 but just wanted to say thanks for yours and the other editors work over the many years and merry Christmas to all and a happy new year!

Bakayoko had a good game, no need to call him out for the sake of it. Zappacosta is terrible though, can't for the life of my understand why Moses was taken off for him. As I said last week his delivery is absolutely shocking, sweat he just smashes it and hopes for the best. That one where we were looking dangerous, he had loads of space and time and he hit it first time out for a goal kick (or throw in, who knows as the ball left the tv screen. ) . Striker and some extra quality needed to support Hazard, William and Pedro simply aren't good enough on a consistent basis. How can we expect Hazard to want to stay when we're offering him none of the right tools to succeed.

I think Bakayoko will come good, he's shown flashes of what he can do and I think as soon as he properly adjusts he'll start playing well every week! For the time being I'd start Drinkwzter though, he's been quietly impressive and a great signing.
