Chelsea have agreed a season-long loan deal with Monaco for Radamel Falcao, according to ssn.

135k/w - a significant downgrade from 285kpw in Manchester. A option to buy at the end of the season with the cost of 35mil.

But there is an upcoming issue that Remy feels concern about the coming of Falcao will reduce his playing to to less than last year, and it could affect negatively to his national call (year of EURO).

{Ed018's Note - there was every chance Remy would be leaving anyways. That's been discussed on here for some time now}

35 million for a player who will be nearing 31 when the loan ends , I can't see how that good bussiness?

money being thrown away

Spb, it's an option to buy if I'm not mistaken. There's no obligation.

What does Falcao offer that Remy doesn't?

I don't think it was that simple Bruce. I believe that Remy was most likely going to leave regardless of whether we signed Falcao or not. Remy probably wants to be first choice, not second choice, which at most clubs he would probably be.

It is option to buy. Unless falcao has a huge season scoring 30 plus goals,I can't see chelsea taking up the option to buy him especially when they only offer one year deals to over 30's. I think falcao is in a similar position as Torres was, so let's hope it works out a lot better this time around.

spb - where have we spent £35 million? As Jackson mentioned, it is (widely reported as being) a loan with an option to buy.

BruCeFC - If you look at it from a performance on the pitch option, from the outside - probably, not a great deal. maybe more European experience? One area where JM has mentioned is key is the attitude of a player and also having experienced players in the squad. with Drogba gone, Cech (and possibly Mikel) going, there is a lack of senior players and influence in the dressing room. Falcao may just fit the criteria JM is looking for in a player as an all-round package? Additionally, have you considered that it may be Remy wanting to leave as opposed to Chelsea wanting him gone?

The option to buy will be monaco's idea, not chelsea's

am I correct?

The option clause would have to be agreed by all parties to be present in the contract. in terms of triggering the clause, that'd be Chelsea's call.

Hi,

Is Varane our preferred centre back option? What other options are we pursuing?

Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Varane (difficult), Balanta (unlikely), Marquinhos (won't happen as he has signed a new contract), Antonio Rudiger (previous interest may be rekindled). Not a priority.

Thanks, makes good sense I guess.

Damn, we really need Varane. Terry can't keep playing every minute of the season and we need a centre back that is suited to a high line in order to continue to develop our playing style. Varane has to be a priority this summer IMO!

We don't need Varane Jackson if Zouma stays. JT has a season in him and Branna can also cover. Christiansen is developing well.

Zouma is not ready to lead right now. I know Varane isn't a great leader yet either, but he's got a lot of experience for his age and also in high pressure games. I really believe Varane should be a priority. Indeed Terry can play another season or 2, but counting on him to play every game isn't smart and I'm not yet comfortable with a Cahill-Zouma partnership. Varane would be a great replacement for Terry.
I know Ivanovic can cover there but I think Mourinho is reluctant not to play him at right back. His ability to play as a 3rd centre back when we defend deep is crucial I believe to our game. Willian then basically makes it a back five by defending deep on the wing. And Ivanovic moves more central to act as a 3rd centre back. So I think Ivanovic stays on the right with Azpi on the left.

dont get me wrong would like to see it but don't think christiansen is evda going to be good enough unless be really bulks up some I no he has time but i'd go with kalas before him. but as said would choose varane anyday

Why is Zouma not ready to lead Jackson? What other young CB has had Sterling, Aguero, and Lukaku in his back pocket this season? Zouma's better suited to the English league than Varane with his power, Terry will teach him the rest?

Well said Welsh, Zouma is a player I really want to see come through. Buy Varanne and Zouma goes on loan and then what? JT and Cahill/Zouma this coming season with Branna, Christiansen to cover.

I don't think varane is a player we be necessarily need however he would also have a bigger long term impact than almost anyone I can think of and within 2 years he will be filling a need.
