Poor performance all around today I thought. Slow build up play, letting sunderland get men behind the ball. Stuck for ideas when around the box. But I have said it before and I will
say it again, why do we need to play two holding midfield players. Especially against bottom of the league at home. I don't think we will win the league now but its not over if we can beat liverpool, then they have to go to palace as we found out is a difficult place to go. I would say a 4-2-3-1 suits playing away against the top sides but maybe playing a 4-3-3 would suit us better as our pacey wide players would push higher and wider up the pitch, giving us a more direct approach similar to how liverpool have had so much sucess this season. All in all i'm happy with how the season has gone so far but our lack of a top quality striker has pulled us up short in terms of winning the league. We have the base of a top quality side, with the addition of say two forwards and a top cm we could mount a title challenge next season.

Jose said we were not good enough next year is our year ok we had an chance to gain some ground and its all come down to fire power (strikers) and we have 3, that in most matches bar a few are total garbage. In there time they may of been ok in a chelsea shirt terrible. This isn't a statement am making to get on at the forwards for someone to blame its just a well known fact are strikers a really poor and its been quoted by jose if he wanted the press to hear it or not (i think he did)
Hope the striker we bring in next is the right one because we would of won the league this year and I've got a funny feeling it will be the same in champions league in the end its who scores more wins. Hope hazard back! Forget league now but all our eggs in 1 basket now champions league and hope we get abit of luck.

We will need at least on great striker and two others who are better than current lot, albeit Etoo and BA have had their moments (but both set to go anyway it seems), and strange that Ba not on earlier today. Would hope that lukaku situation (which I still don'y understand) can be sorted and he could be welcomed back. He offers such strength.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everybody knows that we lack firepower, but Mourinho needs to stop publicly blaming the strikers. It's probably a good thing that he is doing this vow of media silence because I'm sure it would be all about how the strikers could not finish if he were speaking.

A good manager, regardless of whether it is business or sports should always give credit to his employees/players when things go well and he should accept responsibility (take the blame) when things go poorly. Just ask Warren Buffett. Jose still has some maturing to do and although he claimed that he had changed when he first returned, he has to fully commit to improving HIMSELF. He seems to have made positive steps by working with the Club's new structure, but if he really wants to stop being a nomad and stay here for the long term then in one word, has to be more humble.

Our results have been quite fortunate this year given the circumstances, and we are lucky to have made it so far in the Champions League as well as fighting for the League. Demba Ba is responsible for the two wins prior to today's match, and it's remarkable he was able to produce given his treatment by Mourinho. Mourinho moaned about Torres and Eto'o but yet refused to give Ba a chance until he was desperate. Luckily Ba had not lost all confidence in his ability and he came up big - hopefully that goal against PSG earned him a starting spot at a new club because he deserves it.

Mourinho was smart by downplaying our chances of winning the title all season so it would look like a masterful job by him if we were to win, but I also think he is very smart and realistic and honestly believed that this year was not our year. Deep down, we all knew that the squad needed at least a year to be ready to win the league - We all just got a little greedy when we saw that it was actually possible to win the League and we need to look back at the expectations we had at the beginning of the year and realize that we have had a very good season. Especially considering we have a new manager, plenty of new players, and the Club are working towards being a sustainable, long-lasting business that doesn't require silly cash injections every year. Who knows if FFP will have any teeth, but this was always the goal. Our transfer conduct over the last two windows is a prime example of how much we have grown and everything is pointing up. We have the right people in place and we are slowly getting better each day.

Next year will be even better.

Trying to think of something positive to add so as not just to be part of a moan fest. Dare this be: I thought Torres had some bright and sharp moments when he came on. Also I would not criticize Dave A. for his slip (and am not sure he made contact) given what he has given us this season and fact that we should have as usual scored more goals by then anyway and had the match safe.

Some dreadful decisions in this game, only one of which was in our favour (Ramires staying on) but agree that this one of several games against opposition low in the league (not just ones we lost but also eg West Ham at home) which we have struggled in, including last game at Swansea when we were also mediocre. As I've said before, and probably others have as well, that we don't seem to prepare nearly as well for these games as we do for 'more important ones', though points at stake the same in the league; b)perhaps some players not as up for it, as JM suggested after Palace game. Best now to focus on ECL and forget PL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Against the bigger teams we find it easier to score goals because it is more open, you don't get 10/11 men sitting behind the ball for 90 minutes like you do with Palace, Villa etc. But we have seen time after time this season that against teams where they just sit behind the ball and let us come on to them we are incapable of breaking teams down. I don't have a clue who is even capable of passing a ball in between the lines. The football is always sideways and there doesn't seem to be any kind of communication in terms of threading a ball through to someone making a run. It does make me wonder what they practice in training sometimes.

Embarrassed by that. We don't deserve title. Palace villa Sunderland. Pathetic. What does Ramires bring to
Team. Liverpool winning league by penalties. Fuming

Totally agree, our fate was sealed when we let lukaku leave for nothing, poor poor decision followed by not addressing the glaring problem in January. Guess we got to deal with all the plastic scousers coming out of the woodwork now. On this performance forget about Lisbon. Very very disappointing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry were watching the same game.
We didn't play well, they score from a keeper mistake. They get a very dubious pen. We don't get a pen when ramires is about to head into an empty net and gets shoved in the back. We get kicked, pushed and pulled all over the place and the ref gives us very few free kicks. how he only booked a couple of there players for there antics and time wasting is beyond. especially altadore towards the end. There keeper plays out of his skin. And worst of all dein is an absolute disgrace. So overall I think we were unlucky. But we are not good enough to win the league but we gave it a go

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we were that poor the refs. Are crap in this league, I think it kindda messed up that they don't get punished. Harsh statements on our lads think we can get to lisbon. Whether we win it or not is another story. let's just be glad Jose is in charge he used a team without a striker to get this far. Premier league should be frightened when we do have a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on, it's not like the refs are actively conspiring to ruin our title chances. In theory the squad is supposed to play well enough so that it leaves nothing up to chance - things out of our control like weather and the referees have very little effect on results in the long-run. We have been on the benefit side of plenty of officiating decisions this season and it all balances out. The only way to mitigate the risk of these factors is to play so well that you literally eliminate the possibility of them affecting the match outcome. And we did not do that today.

"Lucky" people continuously put themselves in favorable positions/situations by working hard and all the haters call it luck.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - it is certainly not the referee's fault for the outcome of the match. Chelsea instead of dropping back after the first goal should've went out and got the second and third goal and put the match away. That being said for anyone who has watched a lot of the matches in the EPL this year, the ref's have been awful and it really needs to improve because they do miss and screw up a lot of big calls. Ramires should've see red today but the ref somehow 3 feet away didn't see him blatantly hit Larsen. It needs to change}

Ramires was my favorite player last season because I valued his workrate and those very rare but amazing goals he'd occasionally put together. but he has rubbish the bed this year by being sloppy in every aspect of the game. I guess I am officially changing to Matic.

Didn't play like champions, didn't have the passion to win like champions, azpilicueta's worst game in a Chelsea shirt for me, all the talk in the press about maybe the pressure is getting to Liverpool. the way we played today I think it's us who struggled under the pressure! Woeful display

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He made two mistakes, one which he recovered and the second where he slipped because of the pitch then tried to make amends and debatable whether he even made contact with Altidore. If that is his worst game in a Chelsea shirt then I'm sure he is very happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Then I don't know what you were watching? Borini & wickham had the better of him most of the game, the pitch was awful & overly watered which obviously caused the mistake for him to slip! He is my player of the season because he is so consistent but my humble opinion was he has had better days! The whole team weren't good enough today

My god, Ramires is such dangerous player to have on the pitch. He can catch a red card at any moment. That slap to the face of Larsson could and should have been red and that would've made it an even more difficult game.
He certainly has his qualities but he gets way too emotional when it doesn't go our way. I honestly never know whether to be happy or not when I see his name in the starting 11.

Does anyone have any idea how jumping into someone and getting know where near the ball when Ramires is about to put the ball into an empty net isn't a foul?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - was a clear penalty}

PFA Player of the Year Award nominees

Eden Hazard
Yaya Toure
Adam Lallana
Steven Gerrard
Luis Suarez
Daniel Sturridge

PFA Young Player of the Year Award nominees

Eden Hazard
Ross Barkley
Aaron Ramsey
Luke Shaw
Daniel Sturridge
Raheem Sterling

The lists. are ridiculous. 5 out of 6 of young player awards are British. Where's Lukaku? Where's ericksen. Oh yeah, they're not English.

Now, I fail to see why gerrard is here (no I'm not being bias against Liverpool). He's had a good end to season but Henderson has been way better imo. Gerrard 13 goals 7 assists. 10 of te goals are penalties, I know it doesn't say it all but the Liverpool love is a joke lol

I fail to see why azpilicueta isn't in young player as he's been the best defender in te league, I also fail to see why terry/Cahill isn't on the list, both have broken clean sheet records

Who I think will win YPOTY = Sturridge/Sterling
Who I want to win (and deservedly) = hazard (overall contribution)

Who I think will win POTY = Saurez
Who deserves and I want to win it = Saurez.

Please share your opinions as I'd love to hear them

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez still so despicable as a person, latest example of this being his antics against City for which he should have been sent off, that although he is obviously a superb footballer I hope he never wins any award except perhaps free dental treatment to file down his teeth!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with the Steven Gerrard thing. I think its ridiculous that a 24 year old could win the YPOTY award.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fuser, hardly any difference between a 24 year old and a 23 year old, in my opinion YPOTY should go up to the age of 21 maximum.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Plymouth Red. I said last year that Bale was too old to be considered for the award. I think players should be 21 or under at the start of the season to be considered.
Also you don't think there's a difference between them? So Sturridge hasn't improved between this year and last?
