Ake promoted to 1st team.

Mourinho:

"Because Bertrand is leaving I'm bringing Ake now to the squad because he is a player that can play there, and even in an emergency David Luiz or Branislav Ivanovic can play left-back. So even though only Ashley Cole is a specialist left-back we don't have problems."

IMHO it's finally the moment to drop boring 4231 and transfer to 4141 or 433 formation, simply because players that Chelsea has would look much more offensive than 4231. That was formation which AVB, RDM&Benitez use to force. With given players Chelsea should play different formation with high pressing.

I think we will go back to 4-3-3, or a version of it. Matic- Luiz- rami or lamps- Matic- rami. With Mikle and (when fit) van Ginkle, rotating through.Using Willian, Oscar, hazard and Schurrle to rotate with a front man. Maybe next season if we get a decent striker in we could see 4-1-3-2, but that's just wishful thinking.

Agree0 Disagree0

In most games we play we'll always be shown as playing a 4-2-3-1 formation, but in reality our formation changes many times during the course of any one game. 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 are so similar I don't think it makes much difference to how our attacking play should pan out.

For instance I'd say our best midfield right now would be.

Ramires Matic
Willian Oscar Hazard

But during a game that will turn into.

Ramires Oscar Matic
Willian Hazard

and then maybe turn into.

Willian Ramires Oscar Matic Hazard

Etc. etc.

The reason Oscar, Willian, Hazard and arguably Schurrle are preferred to Mata is the fact that Mata doesn't drop back into the deeper midfield positions as well as they do.

The big difference won't come from our formation but the personnel that play within it. I'm a big believer that Matic will get the ball forward faster, and with more accuracy, than any of the other midfielders in the current squad. This will in turn help us to play better football whatever the formation.

J. (above) has it spot on IMO. The players we are using can seamlessly interchange and adapt in the game which is a great strength without the need for substitutions. For me Matic will speed up the transition from defence to attack which will allow us to overload the opposition very quickly.

Letting any player run down his contract is a dangerous game when that player(Rooney) has value in excess of £20 million and it is something that a club like Manchester United and in particular their owners would have risked had they not just appointed a new manager.
Rooney now holds the whip hand in that he is entering the stage where he can in effect give notice and walk away from his contract for about a£10-£15 million player paid compensation. A great bargaining chip even if you don't need to play it
So Ed :002 My question is where there any rumours that RVPs transfer to Man U was forced through by the player serving notice under article 17 (Webster ruling)?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No. Ignore the Webster ruling please.}

Quite happy to ignore and know that's a view you have taken in the past so is there some sort of agreement in place that clubs won't sign players who have exercised this option?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Only a handful of players have sought to use the Webster Ruling an- just ignore it.}
