Fabrizio Ramano - "If Chelsea and Pochettino decide to part ways at the end of the season, the idea is to go for a young coach and not an experienced one.

The priority is to continue with Pochettino, but if they can't agree on terms, keep an eye on a young coach for Chelsea".

If this is true, it's ridiculous, inexperienced squad and managers I refuse to believe this is the thinking, if so it's actually idiotic and damn right stupid.

I admit I was poch out but the way we ended the season I think he needs to stay. Unless a world class coach becomes available like Zidane, Inzaghi, Alonso which looks unlikely.

Agree with you Matt. it is also v odd given Poch had signed a two year contract withn a two-way option of a third so am not sure what the difficulties would be unless it were about terms of approval of outgoings or ingoings or some such. But obviously I'm completely ignorant here.

Ed002 you be able to shed light on whether this FR attributed quote is rubbish or not?

{Ed002's Note - If he were to leave, Chelsea has some options available - "young" is a subjective term but a couple are younger.}

Thanks v much as ever Ed002 for your insight here much appreciated amid all the swirling rumours.

Kieran Mckenna would be my choice if Poch goes.

{Ed002's Note - It would be very risky. He needs a couple of years to prove himself in the Premier League.}

I’d suggest Amorim comes under that younger bracket.

I fervently hope it is still Poch g8ven he commands the confidence of the players has improved many and the team in general by end of the season. Seems to be an unnecessary risk to turn to anyone else seemingly madness. But if this happens it must surely be someone who can quickly gain the players confidence and has experience of European competitions or but prefetably AND the EPL. De Zerbi a possibility then perhaps?

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 13:46:13
De Zerbi will also have already managed Caicedo and Mudrykk at Shaktar?

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 14:06:06
The longer it goes on, the less confident I am that Poch will remain in post. The various briefings and rumours that seem to come out every hour are damaging to the process itself, as it will come to colour whatever decision is made.

I would personally steer clear of RDZ.

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 14:22:13
De zerbi would be a ridiculous appointment. What exactly has he done to constitute managing this team? Poch has really turned it around recently I'll hand it to him, another year is the right call.

Keep Poch, chalobah and Gallagher. I've seen some idiotic things at chelsea recently though so we will get rid of all 3.

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 14:26:05
RBD I probably don't know enough about RDZ but not a good sign that Brighton parted company with him plus way his team's form fell off in second half of season just as ours was improving.

As said it seems to be madness not to keep Poch who surely ticks all the boxes as right person to be manager next season. Can't understand why there should be any fourth except perhaps that he has been offended by the uncertainty or not getting sufficient influence on transfers or. ?

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 14:58:02
Agree with keeping all 3 Standard.

My (completely devoid of any inside info) impression of RDZ is that as long as he has buy-in from the whole squad he can get a team to play some nice stuff. But it seems to depend on players sticking pretty rigidly to some pre-defined movements and circuits. As soon as players want to operate with a bit of freedom or make decisions for themselves it doesn't work as well. I tend to think that elite talents (who we seem to be targeting in the transfer window) prefer to have autonomy on the pitch to play the game as they see it, within reason. I just don't think RDZ matches with the squad we have.

There are plenty of valid criticisms to be levelled at Poch, but he clearly empowers players to maximise their talents on the pitch and you can tell this is appreciated by the players given nearly all have come out and backed him. Getting a load of young, selfish (not a criticism - I think all elite athletes need to have a selfish streak) footballers to sing off the same hymn sheet is a pretty remarkable job from him. I won't pretend like it has been instantaneous - it was only a few weeks ago that we had our third penalty row - but he has managed to bring them along without anyone throwing their toys out of the pram.

To your point about Poch being rankled at 'not getting sufficient input on transfers', I think this could be read as 'don't sell my stand-in captain and best midfielder and my best defender'. I can't imagine he will have too many qualms at the reported interest in Osimhen, Balde and the like.

Matt law saying we value Chalobah at around £25m

You can't buy a Brazilian teenager for that, let alone an experienced home grown versatile player!

Laughable.

For those interested there is a very provocative article about Poch on the WAGNH site today.

I don't agree with a lot of it but nevertheless it is interesting.

21 May 2024 05:28:06
Matt law saying chelsea are sticking to there £25M asking price for chalobah. better than disasi and costs about half as much, unironically our best CB and we're cutting him.

Outrageous if true, but unless Ed says he's going I'm holding onto the hope the board aren't stupid enough.

21 May 2024 07:47:43
Out of all the players reportedly leaving Chalaboa would be the one I would be most upset about but ho hum!

Espically at that price quoted Tom.

We seem to pay top dollar and sell very cheaply, it was thexsame during Roman's time.

A ridiculously low price for TC if true. I would also want him to stay. We surely shouldn't be getting rid of one our most reliable performers in defence.

Another season ends for the MIGHTY BLUES.

Thanks to all of the Ed's and my fellow posters for the banter, disagreements and sometimes long debates. It's all just a bit of fun.

We now approach another transfer window. I very rarely ask a question about transfers but as I've said before, I generally enjoy the transfer rumour more than the transfer fact.

Ed002

Over the last week Poch seems to have been pushing questions on his future back to the owners.

Do you know when the talks on his future are likely to take place this week and what are your feeling on whether he will stay or oo.

From my point of view I feel we would be ma's to let him go.

{Ed002's Note - The talk have to some extent already happened and a decision needs to be made in the coming days.}

20 May 2024 18:46:22
Thank you ED, hopefully all concerned see sense and he stays.

{Ed002's Note - I have no knowledge on which way it will go Bill. Next season and not qualifying for the Champions League would not be acceptable. The owners together with those responsible for the footballing side of the club, together with an advisor will be pondering the way forward Bill. I suspect it will be clear in 10 days or so.}

An old mate of mine has just told me Osimhen is Chelsea bound. 100% will be joining us.

20 May 2024 14:47:51
Would love it and as I’ve said before I thought he was nailed on to join us at the start of the season but press stories saying he will join PSG dashed my confidence.

Anyway, he can’t be joking us we are not in the champions league.

20 May 2024 15:53:19
As long we can still fit Jackson and Nkunku alongside him I will be very happy with him joining. Maybe a front 4 of Jackson on the left, Nkunku as a 10 and Palmer on the right with Osminhen in front of them and Conor and Moises holding the midfield. Plenty of options off the bench in Noni, Carney, Mudryk and Enzo with Ugo and Lavia covering/ competing with Moises and Conor.

Jackson are you joking. The bloke is a donkey.

Jackson is one of the most improved players throughout the season culminating in a brilliant display on Sunday.

20 May 2024 23:02:34
A narrow 433 / 4321
GK?
James, Chalobah, Colwill, balde
Caceido, lavia, enzo
Palmer, nkunku
Osimhen

I wanted to put olise in there and lavia out but tried to be realistic as olise not happening,
I don’t think Chalobah stays either despite how much I want him too, and balde coming in ahead of chillwell / Cucurella unlikely also, but not bad 11.

TomB, you can't just say BLUEBOY's comment is not correct. He is entitled to his opinion as you say so often.

21 May 2024 11:23:03
G8, I honestly don’t need to be told by you what I can and can’t post.

Of course people can express an opinion but using the term “donkey” to describe a player is in my opinion pointless without some sort of context.

Agree0 0Disagree

21 May 2024 12:37:25
There lies the issue with you TomB. You constantly tell others, myself included, what we can and can't post but it's ok for you?

21 May 2024 13:23:54
That comment is total hog wash. I couldn’t give a monkeys f@rt what anyone says but I would always call out two things.

1) personal abuse or lack of respect for the person.

2) single comments describing a player, manager or owner. Such as crap, donkey, vegetable or waist of space.

Surely it makes sense that if a poster feels something is “crap” then they should give there rationale in my opinion.

Hi everyone, what pep has done since joining city sometimes makes wonder if the epl overrated. Though being a fan of an epl club Chelsea, has tinted my awareness and interest in the league. But looking away some stats don't seem in reality that the epl may not be the best league in the world as often projected by the media around the world. Pep in his few years in the epl has done what no club has ever done. 4 titles in row is a record. In Europe the epl has not particularly dominated the European title wins. Same goes for the ballon dor winner. So how is the epl the best league in world? Just being curious.
Though I'm not sure how many pep did it in Spain with Barcelona even if I wouldn't surprise me because he had messi and xavi iniesta duo, he couldn't 4 consecutively in bayern.
I would like to know what you all think including the eds.

Tusole, the premier league has so much money it makes it an attractive watch around the world as a lot of top players are on show every week. Is it the most competitive? certainly not. You only have to look at the 3 teams who came up last season! all went straight back down. In the last 20 years Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd have dominated the league. The same though can be said for the Spanish league, 2 teams dominate. The French league is the same and excluding this season the German league is the same. For me, the Italian league is far more competitive and without the huge income the premier league has. Their European co-efficient is the highest as well so maybe Serie A? All very subjective though.

Coming days we find out about poch, players seem to really like him, we've seen the improvement, hampered with injuries, one or 2 pieces missing, and if city win fa cup, we get Europa league which wasn't the target but didn't look possible at one point this season,

Not what do people want but what do people think the board will do, some stories are boehly wants poch to stay but eghbali is less patient and wants him out?

Agree0 0Disagree

20 May 2024 12:22:36
Matt I want him to be our manager for next season even though I didn’t want him in the first place.

I think he has made mistakes but any cures he could have implemented about player poor form have been hampered by a horrendous injury list.

I hope that any decision the board make is made quickly.

The lap of honour from the players was a bit weird too. We got told they were doing one but as soon as the silva stuff was over, a few players just sort of wandered about and that was it.

21 May 2024 07:50:45
It wasn’t a “disgusting” lap of honour it was just confused.

The Silva appreciation ceremony to an understandably long time and then the partners and kids came on the pitch. It just became a bit of an anti climax. No big deal.

Another season in the books, very topsy-turvy especially at the start as the squad got to know one another. While results have generally been pretty good since Xmas there have certainly been some horror shows sprinkled in there as well as the odd performance where we have got ourselves a result undeservedly. But, you cannot argue with 5 wins in a row to end the season which is a night and day difference to this time last year.

In what will be no surprise, I think we need to continue with Poch and I would even trigger the extension in his contract for the full three years. Stability is required for this young squad and it isn't as though Poch is suddenly going to become complacent with a contract that runs for an extra year. I'm hoping the board does the right thing that will enable us to carry this good atmosphere into the pre-season. It's clear the players back the manager, now they need to start to produce for 90 mins at a time and show up for him consistently.

Thanks to everyone on the site who contributes to the discussion, to Ed001 with his insights into the game and of course Ed002 for his info regarding transfers and the general workings of the industry. Here's to transfers being completed early, PSR compliance, and most importantly Chelsea winning it all next season (we can dream! )!

Completely agree RBD and have said as much already. I don't think any other manager could have dome more than Poch has achieved this season given huge number of depoartures and young and EPL inexperienced new arrivals. Poch also enormous number pf injuties to deal with including with many key and more experienced players like James, Chilwell and - bought to help with goal drought problem and already well established in German league at least - Nkunku.

At start of seasion I had hoped for first half to be about getting players to gell and second half we should hope to see some significant improvement. Yet I still didn't know where we would come betweeen 5th and 17th given the tumultous changes and early injury to Nkunku and others. We never had a settled back four. As it was I thought many of our players yesterday looked exhausted and they included - understandably given so many previous heroics - Cole Palmer who was a shadow of player he had been compared to the outstanding star he had been in so many previous games. Only - and typically - Gallagher seemed to be operating at 100% from kick-off to the very, very end of the match.

So finishing 6th, securing some kind of European football for nect year and with a finakl and a semi-final in the two domestic cups Poch fulfilled hopes and far exceeded expectations IMHO.

These young players desperately need some managerial continuity under someone they trust and whoi got them playing with some consifderable confidence and flare. Poch must surely also be given some decisive input into who leaves and what - hpefully few - additions/ improvememnts still needed. Clearly the defence has to get better given number of goals we conceded with BB own goal (shot was going wide) another of that up and down CB's goal contributions to opposition. He did look v promising before his injury. but surely TC a safer bet at CB.

Two brilliant posts lads and will come as no surprise that I broadly agree with all your sentiments.

Other teams are not going to stand still and wait for us to catch up so we probably still need one or two players but that’s about all as far as I’m concerned. For me it’s more about selling players in this coming window.
