Hi Ed

Are Chelsea interested in signing Muniz from Fulham?

(I always thought he was very good in Malcolm in the Middle! )

There would be some irony in that we sent Broja on loan to Fulham, but Muniz improved and kept him out of the team.

The_Fez

{Ed002's Note - No.}

1.) 04 Jun 2024 19:09:53
Thanks Ed, short and sweet.

With Thiago Silva leaving, and Chalobah possibly up for sale, we still have 4 first team CBs (Fofana, Disasi, Colwill, Badiashile), as well as Gilchrist and Humphreys coming back from loan.

Ed002, are any of our remaining centre backs looking to leave this summer, or have interest from elsewhere?

The_Fez

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in the CBs and Chelsea are looking to replace Silva.}

1.) 09 May 2024 21:42:44
I hope we bring back Guéhi, and also keep Chalobah. If any of the current CB's was to be sold its got to be Badiashile, Chalobah offers utility in other positions as does Disasi.

I think Guéhi and Colwill could be a great partnership moving forward. If we can get a solid experienced keeper behind them as well, the defence in my opinion would be good to go.

2.) 10 May 2024 08:04:15
Thanks Ed for the quick reply.

IMO, if we buy a new first team CB, and Thiago and Trevoh (or A N Other) leave, then we've still got 5 players for 2 positions, which is one too many. I can see though why we might be hedging our bets on Fofana getting fit again - he's a quality player, I hope we can ease him back in without any more setbacks.

3.) 11 May 2024 06:47:56
Personally I would sell fofana but his injuries will hinder his sale.
I also don't think guehi and colwill partnership is good enough to help us return to the top.
We must sign at least two cb of different experiences and quality different from what we already have.
Maybe I see it differently when we say replace silva. I think we talk about experience and defending brains.
Though controversial, I wouldn't mind bringing rudigar back like the silva signing in the first place. Defence must be solid to act as a platform for other areas to perform as well. Like a foundation imo.

4.) 11 May 2024 10:08:21
Guéhi would be an excellent signing but I just can’t see that happening unless we sell Colwill or BB.

5.) 11 May 2024 13:52:51
We need an experienced CB. We need to replace Thiago Silva not just on the pitch, but on the training ground. We need a grown-up – a player older than 25. Game management has been our biggest problem all season. We need a leader in a key position. Our young CBs are still developing. But who is this player? Who are the contenders here? Please NOT Harry Maguire.

6.) 11 May 2024 14:39:18
celery, I’m not convinced about age being a criteria as a leader. I think JT was only 21/ 22 and Lamps wasn’t much older. Looking back we had the likes of Wilkins who was about 19 when he became skipper and chopper was about the same age.

Some players are just leaders/ influencers regardless of age.

7.) 12 May 2024 15:15:46
I agree Tom. But our current CB lads are NOT that. Levi Colwill, for instance, is a decent player but he is not ready to be that CB leader. I think we need to look at the transfer market. I also wonder if Wes Fofana will ever make a comeback or his careeer might be sadly over?

8.) 12 May 2024 18:23:04
I think Chalaboa would relish the responsibility and playing next to James would help.

9.) 13 May 2024 09:27:32
I agree that Chalaboa looks the best bet in this respect but Colwill could well get there too. How about a pairing of TC as right CB and LC as left CB?

But back up obviously needed. Age may not be a quality required for leadership but surely it is considerable experience and learning the trade ideally alongside a consistent CB partner that leads to being a great defender.

After all JT may have been a born leader but I reckon he learnt a lot about both this plus CB skills from who he fdirst played with in first team namely the brilliant world cup winning Marcel Desaillythe then Chelsera captain? He did so for almost 100 games, then played alongside the also excellent William Gallas.

Later there was the wonderful Carvalho if then the tad more erratic but brilliant on their day Alex and David Luiz (who to my mind played esp. well in big games for CFC but could lose focus in lesser ones) .

Fofana is very talented and with more composure could be excellent. But I think it may have been Ed001 who emphasised WF positional errors - mainly rushing out of position and his co-defender/ s exposed? - and there is his apppalling injry problems.

Not sure what to make of BB or Disasi who have had both good games and poor ones. BB did look v good at start, then drradful after injury, then a couple of good games recently. Probably would need to play alongside seasoned defender like most CBs should ideally do to improve.

NO No No to Harry McGuire!

Hi Eds

Are Chelsea interested in Ivan Toney? Also is his ban likely to keep him out for long (based on any precedent)?

Btw, I did have a search and last result was 10 months ago, so apologies if I've missed any more recent update, and thanks again for all the work you do here

Hoping that the club can build on their difficult season and get the players fulfilling their undoubted potential.

The_Fez

{Ed002's Note - No, Chelsea have made no approach for Toney.}

1.) 18 Apr 2023 18:48:04
I hope this doesn’t sound like a random name plucked out of the air, Marcus thuram, free transfer in summer I think, was possibly down the list for us previously, would be good option with preferred choice Thuram and Brojaatt club,

21 Feb 2023 13:50:27
Hello ed

There are some rumours of Mateo Kovacic being interested in leaving.

Are there any teams interested in buying him at the moment?

FWIW I think that on his day, he's a great player for us, and it's a shame he's suffered with more than his fair share of injuries while at the club.

The_Fez

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of him asking Chelsea for a move. Inter Milan have sustained interest but even with Nicolo Barella perhaps departing in the summer they have preferred options. Chelsea will not want to sell.

1.) 21 Feb 2023 17:44:35
Anything from chelsea regarding barella?

2.) 22 Feb 2023 19:46:20
Thanks ed for the reply, much appreciated.

Hi ed

Do Chelsea hold any interest in Kyle Walker-Peters of Southampton?

The_Fez

{Ed002's Note - They did last summer. I rather doubt he would move to play as cover so the ideal solution would be someone more versatile to replace Azpilicueta.

1.) 13 Jan 2023 12:24:08
Hello ED002, Are we looking to replace CA this window and at the same time find cover for Reece?
Would you mind sharing targets we are looking at for that position Long term as well.

We will be or have lost 4 stalwarts in Rudiger / Thigo Silva / Azpi / Alonso
we have replaced with Cucurella / Fofana / BB

I still feel we need a CB and RB/ RWB/ RCB.

{Ed002's Note - You should not try to tien transfers to windows. I am not going to share targets.}

Reading reports from Spain (Marca, El Diario) that Alonso will move to Atletico Madrid this summer!

If he goes, who should replace him - both in a banned or non-banned situation?

Also, any of the eds able to substantiate the rumour?

The_Fez

1.) 30 May 2019 19:45:00
Banned has to be Jay da Silva coming back from loan. I would absolutely love to add Alex Telles to this squad in order to provide width down the left and he would be my choice in a non-banned scenario.

2.) 30 May 2019 20:05:23
If we don't appeal then i'd still sell him and have Jay Dasilva as backup to Emerson. That's if Jay would be willing to be a backup. If we appeal and can buy then i'd go and get Telles, he's pretty much turned into the new Hulk with us being linked to him every window. He'd be an excellent signing though, has everything you look for in a modern day full back.

3.) 30 May 2019 20:45:10
Chilwell would be my first choice if the ban remains. If not then Aina first then Da Silva. Aina has proved to be a very versatile full back for Torino but I’ve heard he’s signing for them. Think Chilwell is quality and the more homegrown we have the better. If not him then Telles.

Even if the ban remains and we can offload the likes of Zappacosta, Alonso, Drinkwater, Morata and Bakayoko we’ve still improved the squad.

4.) 30 May 2019 22:40:05
No worries if Marcos Alonso has agreed a deal to join Athletico Madrid- as long as Athletico pay £70m for him.

5.) 30 May 2019 23:33:11
I’d take 7 million personally. But I think £20 million would be a fair fee.

6.) 31 May 2019 08:58:10
20 mil for a goal scoring LB . no way has to be higher . but id like to stay away from discussing money.

he has done well for us . id like for him to stay and compete with emerson if the ban stays. i think if we had a good striker he would do even better in the attacking phase . defensivly he can do much better.

7.) 31 May 2019 09:19:36
I think this Alonso's sudden desire to join Athletico Madrid feels like tantrum that he's throwing against Sarri and the club; but I honestly think that it won't help him cos it's coming at the very wrong time.

28 Sep 2017 06:02:23
Now that we're well into the new season, looking at the squad we're a bit short on depth at left-back and striker.
Alonso has been great, but can't play every game, and if one of our strikers gets injured we'd be struggling to have game changers on the bench.
Since we missed out on Llorente and Sandro in the summer, any idea of new targets in these positions - maybe even for a January signing?

The_Fez

1.) 28 Sep 2017 08:38:22
give it a rest.
we have had a gd start to the season and its know where near jan yet. relax.

4.) 28 Sep 2017 13:21:20
Fez, take a look at Batshuyi's goal to minutes ratio!

5.) 28 Sep 2017 23:18:26
Jesus Christ, calm down. Anyway llorente was always a pathetic option.

6.) 29 Sep 2017 23:24:08
dont think we need new targets were going queite ok llorente is a donkey batshuayi will prove hopefully why llorente going to spurs was right move for us.

I wonder if the Amorim flight to the UK was linked to Chelsea - the club were very quick to deny it at the time.
Another name in the frame could be Porto boss Sergio Conceicao.
I would like Flick, but that's because I think he has the experience.
I'm also disappointed that they chose not to continue with Poch, I was looking forward to a summer of stability while other big clubs chopped and changed, now I feel we're a bit back to square one.

If we can't renew Conor (and it feels like he's been for sale the last few windows) then I'd reluctantly try and sell him, also maybe Casadei?

That still leaves Enzo, Caicedo, KDH, Lavia, Ugochukwu, Carney, and Andrey Santos, with academy players to push them.

I suspect at least one of Ugochukwu, Andrey or Carney will go on loan to get minutes.

Last season Poch said he was happy with Kepa, only for us to send him to Madrid shortly before the season started.

We do have too many goalkeepers, I can imagine we'd like an upgrade but it might be hard for us to sell first.

I hope it gets sorted in plenty of time so any new signing gets plenty of time in preseason.

Loving the new positive attitude! We've created 2 big chances to their 1, maybe Lampard "coached the win" again!
