We score then go back to playing boring slow football for me we score early go for the kill it was in sight, but no back to passing it round back and there now back in the game hate the style of football. We score and sit back does my head in.

I said it a couple of times last season, Nib – Maresca doesn't appreciate the value of momentum. It was a noticeable difference in the performance against PSG in the CWC final – we were allowed to play when up.

Have read on many occasions around the young age of the team and it is one which EM also brings up a wee but too much for my liking in post match interviews. That said, this Chelsea team at home certainly do not play with any extended youthful exuberance. Indeed if anything they play with the hand brake on, particularly after scoring. EM seems determined to try and win games by scoring then controlling (smothering) the play. That takes supreme concentration and bags (& I mean bags) of experience.
Chelsea have lost so many home games V what are regarded as middling stuffy well coached teams. How many times at SB over the past few seasons have Chelsea scored, the fans jump up, cheer it, love it, then sit back down and think “now what”? Stick or twist? The opponent knows it and they also know if they keep shape are athletic and get stuck in they’ll get a chance if not two. This stick or twist stuff feeds into the “lack of identity” narrative (which to an extent I agree with) which is doing the rounds.

London, I’ve mentioned several times before today that I do not buy into this “young” squad excuse. Nearly all our players are internationals.
I’m not sure I want my team to have an “identity” but I think I want my club to have one and to be fair since RA took on the ownership of the club I believe that to be the case.
I don’t want us to have one style of playing. I was critical last season with our lack of tactical flexibility. I want us to change players, shape and tactics depending on our opponent.

Reece James is a quality player anywhere! He is literally world class in whatever position his coach/ manager wants him to be! He produced under TT as a wing back during 21 champions league win, then after injuries he has returned to be whatever the club requires, can you fault his performance in the club world cup final against PSG as a midfielder Nib1907? Very long season ahead!

No one is doubting Reece’s ability. He is a top class RB and a very good WB but he is not a midfielder; it that position he is no better than average.

I say again, I would prefer him to always play at RB but he changed the game last Saturday and played well in the CWC in that position.

I’m sorry but I should have also mentioned that in my opinion James had a more positive influence on the game than Caicedo, who by his very high standards had one of his poorer performances and I’m not just thinking about the penalty.

Tom, it is all about opinions, I thought Reece was pretty anonymous. The fact that Caicedo had to make that clumsy tackle says a lot about our defensive weaknesses.

Spot on it is about opinions and I think Caicedo is head and shoulders our best player but he was poor for him and I’m setting aside the pen.
