Just seen a report suggesting Chelsea have agreed a deal with Al Ettifaq for Harvey Vale. Took me by surprise, although I saw he was on the list to move on. Bit a head scratcher for him. Surely he has other options.

Harvey should be saying 'Al ettifaqoff' to them. I'll see myself out.

Been thinking about this for a while, but I think we need to stop thinking about players as players in this Chelsea system: they are assets that will either go on to improve performance of the team (the shop front) or appreciate in value and be sold for a return.

So, when we get the question: why are we buying another AM when we already have a stockpile.? Well, we are stock piling them because they tend to appreciate in value and achieve higher fees in the market later.

Why buy them young? Well, because they have the most upside potential.

It's high risk, but it's not a mad strategy given the way fees have been rising across football. And expansion into the multiclub model allows for greater opportunities to showcase these players and enhance their value.

If it is a venture capital style model, you would only be looking for 2/ 10 to break through for the approach to wash its face.

Personally, I'm not mad on treating young people as commodities, but that's not new in football.

Agree with your overall point FD77 however I think there is one major caveat, and that is that none of these players are being signed by Strasbourg.

There are only six loan spots for players that aren't both u21 AND club trained (3 years at current club between ages of 15 and 21). So if you stockpile them, you are very limited as to how you develop them to the point that you can actually turn a profit on them. It doesn't matter that you own other clubs if it's only Chelsea who is buying these players.

Is it true Chelsea are looking to move casadei on on a permanent deal? Seems crazy.

FD77, you are echoing my sentiments of the last two seasons. It’s a business and will look at the last few years under Roman, it was being run as a business.

I see it as a business/ judgement call. We feel emotionally attached to certain players and with some fans they seem more attached to academy players. As long as the judgement of buying, keeping and selling is done/ judged broadly on ability then I’m fine.

We should also try and remember we all see the worth of a player differently and that obviously includes the coaching staff.

I understand how people can refer to the likes of Chalaboa and CG as “cash cows” but we do still have academy players in the squad but they are seen by the decision makers as having the ability to be a Chelsea player.

I love Gallagher work rate. But is he good enough to play in a two man midfield. I do t think he is. Or even in the attacking three, he isn’t. I think chuekameka offers a lot more than him. It’s a shame but the truth.

Neil Bath's exit has caught me off guard. Looks like we will be restructuring the academy around Shields and Van der Kraan.

Bath deserves a lot of kudos from Chelsea fans for what he built in an era where the pathway from youth team to the first team was really tough.

Is that Van der Kraan from City? what a pick up that would be. Well done the recruitment team. As for Neil Bath, what a man. Did so much for the club and so nice that the owners have come out and really appreciated him.

Or - whisper it - we could stick with what we have….

I’d be happy enough with Toney within the wage structure - if we have to buy someone! I’m still a fan of Jackson, but I think Toney has a good all round game.

I am unclear why we would need a “world class” box to box centre midfielder when we don’t play with one. Chelsea play with a DM and two high 8s/ 10s. Where is the box to box midfielder going to play?

I’d argue that Colwill and Fofana have the ability to be world class. Caicedo likewise and Enzo has won a World Cup and Copa America, so there is something there if Maresca can make it work. Palmer could be world class and was a standout in England last season and Nkunku was getting towards that bracket before the injury.

Plenty of talent - maybe too much of it. It’s about making it work.

I don’t get the attitude thing - yes, he’s got a bit of pep, but I like that about him. £50m is good money, if that’s the case, but I’d like to have seen how he worked out for Chelsea this season. Good fit for Newcastle, if true.

He’s looked all right in pre-season… Sterling, that is.

Chukwuemeka was in the squad originally but pulled out unwell.

I think he is doing better than we have any right to expect for a young player, fairly new to the role and playing in a new league / country. If you look objectively at his form across his last 30 or so games, it seem crazy that the narrative hasn’t begun to swing more in his direction.

I wouldn’t want you to experience something really bad, Nib. Not sure you’d make it out.

It was disjointed, certainly, but I’d rate a number of players more than 5.

I thought Sanchez had a good game, Colwill and Cucurella too - although the last should’ve been sent off. Caicedo did well as the game went on and Vega looks capable of being a backup option in midfield.

Of the subs, Sancho was impressive - lots of subtle touches and threat. Toisin looked calm and made some good decisions. Obviously Nkunku scored, but didn’t really have time to make a case overall.

Of the others, Disasi looked like a square peg and Fofana was sloppy. Neto and Madueke struggled to get going and I thought Palmer and Jackson looked 5% off it.

Not a great performance against a good Bournemouth side, but happy with the in and the clean sheet.

Nib, was the problem last season scoring or conceding? We scored 6 goals last game, but were shaking defensively and in transition. We need a balance to complete, but the weak links are not up front.
