The Kalas link to WBA is interesting. Should they make an offer to loan the defender it would have an obvious impact on next season for Lukaku (Premier League sides can't loan more than one player to each other).

It may well be that WBA are looking to sign Kalas on a permanent deal, all we know so far is he's been watched.

Personally I'd rather see Lukaku back next season and Ba gone, but if he's to go out on loan again another season at WBA would be the perfect fit.

Early, early stages but well worth keeping a lazy eye on. {Ed002's Note - I answered this yesterday, don't necessarily think they wish to loan Kalas.}

Tyler Durden

1.) Yeah kalas looks good but lukaku is the clear #1 priority. He must dictate everything. That being said its about time for kalas to make his mark or move on. The issue is bran plays more or less the same role for the club.

Tk {Ed002's Note - There is nothing linking the futures of Lukaku and Kalas.}

Bertrand not travelling to Moscow, is Cole still injured? Be interesting to see who slots in at LB! Benitez has already stated it'll be a weakened team!

Tyler Durden

1.) Stand up Paulo Ferreira!

2.) Ferriera?

3.) Nathan Ake!

4.) I read somewhere Ake might be used as a LB, although i'd prefer to see Ferrera there and Ake deployed in CDM again.

5.) I heard a suggestion that Ake would play there. don't see it myself but that's what I heard.

6.) Luiz simple sod the yellow card

7.) Yeah I've seen the Ake rumours too but I think Ferriera will start here!

8.) Both to start, Ferreira Left back, Ake Midfield

So this summer, just taking my preferences into effect and not any newspaper gossip/rumours. I don't expect us to sign all, if any, of these players but think they would solve needs in the squad.

Inigo MARTINEZ :- We need to start thinking towards the future of centre half, although we have some decent youth players coming through another signing is needed; this lad is young, talented and has enjoyed a good season in La Liga. He would add to the Spanish contingent which should aid his settling at the club.

Luke SHAW :- Is either Bertrand or Van Aanholt really the heir apparent to Cole? I can't see it. Signing Shaw would secure a very good left back for the foreseeable future. Sign him up, secure him now, and loan him back for a season.

BENAT :- You may see a Spanish theme developing here! Lampard needs to be replaced in the squad, this lad has an amazing passing range and his delivery from set pieces (a weak point for us) is very, very good. A very good deep lying playmaker.

ISCO :- Marin may not have been given many chances but, for me, he hasn't made the most of the small chances he has had and should be moved on. An attacking midfield group of Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Isco, De Bruyne and Moses is pretty mouth watering. Another season in Spain for Paizon wouldn't be a bad thing.

Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG :- Pace, pace and some more pace! Good striker who can also play out wide and has strength to match his pace. We never really replaced either Sturridge or Kalou in the squad - Aubameyang would be an immediate upgrade on both former players.

Edison CAVANI :- Right now I see him as a better option to Falcao, would be a better fit into our system.

Tyler Durden

1.) Agree with all of that mate, brilliant post, cavani playing in front of players like Oscar mata hazard benat isco Moses would be brilliant. Good crosser of
The ball is needed. I think playing players like banat or Oscar next to a ball winner like mikel or my choice in Luiz would be good, lukaku back too and have 4 top strikers cavani aubameyang lukaku Ba can rival UTD and city
Matty

2.) Agree with Isco, Aubameyang but if we also purchased Cavani we would need to look to sell come attacking players, Ba, Marin, Benayoun, Malouda to name a few.
Were not like City or United who play with 2 center forwards, we play one up top so we need 3 strikers in the squad max.

3.) I just think that if with 4 strikers we can play different formations. Change it to Suit opposition. ,. V stoke etc we could play cavani and lukaku. Bit power up top and V teams like arsenal play 1 striker and counter football. And agree ayers like Marin malouda yossi
Torres to be sold and give youth chance

Matty

4.) Brilliant post? Well the piece about Shaw is nonsense. The lad has only recently stated he will sign a full contract with Saints as soon as he turns 18.

What earthly reason would Saints want to sell him this year and loan him back? His value will only increase and they have already said he is not for sale-at any price.

Why would Shaw want to sign for Chelsea now and be loaned back? His bargaining position would be much stronger after another season playing in the Premiership so, financially he would be stupid to sign for anyone other than Saints, especially if they were not going to play him.

Just because Chelsea (Arsenal/Man U/Man C/Liverpool etc etc) want to get him on the cheap it will still not make it happen.

You think money will get you anything-well it won't if what you want is not for sale.

5.) This is true Southampton do have a strong recent history of keeping hold of their young talent!

6.) Next year is Southampton need to strengthen the squad with 2-3 players and sale of shaw will do that then maybe they will consider bids. What an personic post money talks plus he is massive Chelsea fan and if he wants to join us
Southampton won't keep unhappy player

7.) People on here wanna spend 150 million plus each transfer window haha. Unbelievable! We've got a class player in every apartment. Apart from striker. Plus some real talent developing and out on loan. Would love to be able to boast about some youngster in our starying 11 from academy or a young age.

8.) Do try and find some information before you post a comment. Saints are one of the wealthiest clubs in the EPL, so have no need to sell anyone! Also, if Shaw was unhappy, why would he publically state a few weeks ago he was very happy at Saints and would be going nowhere?
Saints are building a strong, YOUNG, developing team. Why would someone like Shaw want to move when he knows how he will play at Saints but not at Chelsea?
No young Saints LB is going to join Chelsea so your geriatrics can grope his bird! And apart from that, Jack Cork is a very good lesson to such a player as to why he should keep away.
So, player happy at Saints, says he is staying, club say he is not for sale at any price and have no financial need to sell. What is there that you can not understand? Suggest you go back to Monopoly, as fantasy wishes seem more important than reality.

9.) Chelsea to sign shaw fantasy football. ? Well looks like we're in a lot of trouble come summer when we can't buy a young player who supports Chelsea from Southampton?

10.) Lambert supported Liverpool as a lad, so did Spiderman. So they are on their way as well?
You really are grasping at straws.

Players chose their clubs according to how they feel they will be looked after and (if they are serious about their careers) how they think they will be given an even chance. Therefore Shaw will stay at Saints.

If your theory was correct every player in Europe would be on a plane to Barca!

By the way, an even younger version of Shaw is (as I post this) playing for Saints under 21s!

Until Chelsea dramatically change their policy, and give young English players a chance to play in the EPL then you will just have to wait until they are in their mid twenties, are top international players and will cost you around £50m-LIKE BALE!

By the way-where did he come from and did he dash off to join you as a teenager?

Yes, fantasy football.

11.) When has or will Ricki Lambert ever be a transfer prospect for Liverpool? Pointless argument, just because Lambert is a Liverpool fan doesn't mean Liverpool would have an interest in the player would it?

Chelsea have made their interest known to Southampton about Shaw. Chelsea need a LB after next season and someone who has that much talent, at a smaller club, who has expressed that Chelsea is the team he supports and who would be a viable option to replace Cole is not fantasy football at all. He is also English which is very important due to meeting quota's.

Of all the promising LB in the world that are financially viable, have a high ceiling of improvement, who are English and the player loves Chelsea I would say that's not Fantasy.

12.) It is PURE fantasy.

The lad may have been a supporter of Chelsea but he is a Saints player. Chelsea are interested in him, as are a number of other clubs, BUT your club has been told he is not for sale, and the lad has only recently stated (to quell stupid speculation) he will be staying at Saints.

I know it is past Christmas but you still can't have everything you want!

He will stay at Saints and continue to play in the EPL, not go to Chelsea and sit it out in the academy or be loaned out. Saints know how his value will increase, they would be daft to let him go now when he wants to stay.

By the way, how many young English players will feature for Chelsea this season? Suspect Saints will have 5 in their first team this afternoon. {Ed002's Note - Chelsea would ideally not want to move for Shaw until the summer of 2014. Their hand could be forced by a bid from Arsenal.}

13.) Looks like Shaw will be leaving this summer then ;)

I can't see us spending 20+ million on Fellaini.

Loath him or like him Mikel is here to stay and is on a long term contract, besides we all know Fellaini is not best when playing the holding role.

When played with a holding midfielder Ramires is a dynamic player, he causes opposing teams untold problems with his energy alone!

They'll form the core of our midfield in a 4-2-3-1 formation next season. If we play a 4-3-3 formation next year then the likes of Oscar, De Bruyne or would fit into the third role much better than Fellaini; that's without spending the 20+ million.

Strength in depth can be found in David Luiz, Romeu, McEachran (if he's deemed good enough) and, if not loaned out again, Chalobah. These can all cover those midfield positions.

Our money would be much better spent on Isco, who would be an immediate upgrade on Marin (who I expect to leave) and Moses behind Mata and Hazard in the squad.

Tyler Durden

1.) I sort of agree but can't see us winning anything other than a domestic cup next year if we go wit what we have in midfield, I think at least we need a midfielder who can pass nice and crisp, xabi alonso type instead of a 6 foot 4 beast who can't pass forward we look amazing with a passer linking everything, and a goal scorer lukaku or a new signing, give us a 25 goal aseason striker and a midfielder who is good at passing and were set, if we say the best 3 teams in the world are barca madrid and munich, look who starts attacks for them, alonso, sweinstiger and busquets, then they have ronaldo, gomez/mandzukic, messi are there goal scorers this is were we fail, most other places on the pitch we at least mach them, we can get a falcao or cavani and a deep lying playmaker the same as all the best teams in the world have then we should be on par makes perfect sense to me

2.) What do you mean Fellaini's not at his best in the holding role he's said before and stated on Wikipedia that's his favourite position if Mikel played alongside him that would give Fellaini the chance to join the attack like when Ramires and Mikel play together now

WelshBlueBen

3.) I once read wiki for a place when I was going travelling, all I can say is more fool you taff

4.) ^^^

He's that hard he doesn't have a name

WelshBlueBen

5.) I wouldn't worry about it ben he's probably just another white rose licker still crying about the rugby

SHEEP SHEEP SHEEP SH***ERS

6.) WelshBlueBen

"stated on Wikepedia that's his favourite position" - quote of the week!

Fellaini gave an interview to Wikepedia did he, lol?

And BTW he has been moved from DCM because he wasn't that effective there. Tended to get more yellow cards than successful passes made.

Oh, and I will leave a name just to prove how hard I am! (from behind my keyboard)

Yes I've been very critical of him in the past but when Mikel came on yesterday he had a massive impact on the game.

You can't play Ramires in that two man midfield, especially as a holding player, and expect him to play well. Alongside the likes of Lampard he is restricted and you don't get the best out of him. Yesterday, when partnered with Mikel, he was given the licence to make those charging box-to-box runs forward and we once again saw the Ramires of last season.

Getting back to Mikel - he broke the play up, covering the back four perfectly and his passing was as positive as I've seen from him in blue. He was the most important player on the pitch for us in the second half.

Azpiliqueta was also very good yesterday (again), as was David Luiz in the second half. It leaves me dumbfounded when I see him line up at centre half, as I know how good he is in midfield; but during that second half yesterday we actually looked like a team. Sit Oscar a little deeper with Mikel and Ramires, give Mata and Hazard the freedom to influence the game and add a footballing/creative striker to the fold and we could/should be golden.

1.) 11 Mar 2013 10:59:02
I could agree more.

2.) Top post Surewould. Agree with the lot

3.) I've always hated mikel and ill admit it defensively he was good yesterday but you seem to forget his couple of miss tackles and his terrible few passes in there half. But he did look a lot better. Lampard time is up here. BLUEBOY1
