Ed002 are you willing to speculate as to the likelihood of Mata going to MU this month?

{Ed002's Note - A Merrell Fankhauser fan -you are the first one to join me here. Welsome.}

Who else agrees that we should offer 10 million+Mata for Rooney? IT would allow us to get rid of some deadwood and get in some much needed quality in the forward department!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Referring to any players as deadwood is disrespectful but Mata?! Wash your mouth out mate

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - 100% with you John.}

Sorry I should have said players who aren't much use at the club anymore if it bothers you that much?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - Fredo just stick to the United page, no need to come over here and try to wind us up as you have said. If your posts continue like your original one they will just be deleted so don't waste your time}

They don't seem to want him either Ed018. Maybe try the Liverpool page, Fredo. Harrys just unregistered so i'm sure they're after another basketcase

Agree0 Disagree0

Does that mean you are valuing Rooney as more than Mata? Not a chance.

Hi Ed,

I've been following this website for quite some time now and I must send my appreciation for the effort and time you've put in to letting us know all the happenings regarding our beloved Chelsea FC.

Was hoping you'd give me some good news by insisting Chelsea want to keep Mata despite United's interest and that Guillem Balague is wrong (as he usually is).

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he has said.}

Can you shed any light on the developing Mata stories?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Has Guillem Balague ever been correct with a transfer rumour? He spreads them like wildfire, and yet none happen. Jesus christ, it's actually embarrassing that he is respected as a journalist.

Hi Ed. If (and that's a big if) rumours are true that we're going to allow Mata to leave - is there a replacement in mind for this window? It'd leave us pretty short now that De Bruyne has gone too!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - I get the feeling if Mata leaves this window and that's a big if, you will see more of the 4-3-3 and Ramires adding some cover on the right in the 4-2-3-1}

In mourinho I trust selling or buying

Although I want him to stay the only good thing about a possible UTD bid is it may get PSG into a bidding war,, can't see why sell such a brilliant player to a rival,, even though not a rival this year will be with players like mata next year,

Re. Mata to Man Utd: would strongly agree with those (most?) on this site who are opposed. Think it makes no sense to sell one of our best players to a team in PL that may not be a major rival right now but may well be again next season if they are able to make such signings, and just when we've pulled decisively ahead re. squad strength.

Have I missed something? A lot of rumours suggesting mata will not our current system. We haven't changed any system. Did we? We have been playing the same system in which mata excelled for 2 seasons. Can somebody explain what is our new system?

silv3rzz ;)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I could be wrong, but as far as I know it's our style that has changed, Mourinho likes to play defensive and Mata can't use his full potential if he has to defend too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been saying this again again, but everybody seems to forget that when ozil played for Madrid under Mou, he seldom used to work defensively. We didnot have a proper defensive mid, who is actually good at defending and is good on the ball. Inorder to balance between attack and defence mou wanted oscar/mata to work defensively, to which mata couldnot adapt. Now we have signed matic, I certainly think Mou will use mata more often. Time will tell

Mourinho is playing a high-pressing, counter-attacking game. It requires versatility, stamina, defensive ability and speed for when the play transitions from defence to attack. Mata would be ideal for when we want to control games (from a tempo perspective) however he is probably the least suitable of our 5 attacking midfielders for the style Mourinho is seemingly imposing as our preferred one.

Hypothetical question for everyone, Eds and posters alike. If Mata were to leave, who would you like to see brought in as extra depth?
Personally, I'd like Deulofeu. Kid's got bags of potential and has regularly shown it at Everton. Him, Schurrle and maybe Piazon or Traore as depth for the front four would be excellent I reckon.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Obviously I'm a massive fan of mata, but I do realise he doesn't work hoses way. But I really don't see the point of signing any one because we have traore, thorgan hazard and piazon out on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Valid point about Traore and Piazon, who I also think will reach the level required to play regular games for us. However being Belgian myself I regularly see highlights of Thorgans games and to be fair, he's a good player, but I don't think he'll ever make it at chelsea. I could definitely be wrong, but that's just how I see it.

Yeah of course its always bring someone in with you guys and then that person doesn't perform for a season then its " ship him off and bring someone else in". If juan leave i'll like to see some of the younger ones given a chance Piazon especially think he's'gonna be top class maybe Traore or Thorgan as well but Piazon certainly going to be a world beater.

Agree0 Disagree0

IF we sold mata I don't think delefeu would be the ideal replacement. Cracking player but completely different to mata. We need a no.10 to replace him, not a winger.

Piazon might be an option but I haven't really watched him this season. Does anyone know if he plays out wide or more through the middle?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jordan, in answer to your question I think Piazon usually plays on the left but he probably drifts centrally a lot of the time.
I know he's a completely different player, but I think Willian could actually be really good as a central playmaker as well as Oscar obviously.
Another reason why Deulofeu could be a good option is because he comes from Barcelona and thus will have played in a high pressing system as Jose wants to implement.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ross Barkley, he is the english Julian Draxler, he has the size and physical attributes Mourinho loves and I can see him being able to fill in at CM.

Should be our no1 target in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - agreed, only after we make sure we get a striker}

Ed, think there's any chance at all we could get Barkley? Won't his price be way over what chelsea'd be willing to pay?
Cheers btw PB, like the barkley shout. Great player and as you said can play CM so would be useful if Jose wants to play 433

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed013's Note -I wouldn't have thought so in this window mate}

Cheers Ed013, really didn't think we could get him this window. I didn't even consider him to be a possibility. Still don't actually, even for the summer. I don't see a way we could convince everton to sell (except for silly money, which we shouldn't pay) and also we'd need to convince Barkley of the idea as he won't come to play a third of the games instead of being a regular starter at everton.

Can't imagine many (well any) fans would think selling Juan Mata to Manchester United would be a positive thing. I'd defo rather see him go to Italy, Spain, Germany or blooming Outer Mongolia than Manchester! But if they're willing to pay thirty-seven million pounds for him (which is probably an exaggerated amount brought together by the the poetic justice of journalism) then I think we should sell; even for a more realistic valuation of twenty-five to thirty million pounds.

This isn't me being disrespectful of a player who has arguably been the best at the club over the past two seasons, it's just being realistic. In the current team and system he is not first choice and as a footballer he's being waisted, he isn't going to play much and having him on the bench isn't getting us anywhere! If we sell for the amount of money being bounded about then we can reinvest that money on a striker, somewhere that well all know money needs to be spent, whilst keeping the financial books in check.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Then what happens when we're back to playing 2 games a week and Oscar gets injured?

If he's happy playing more sporadically I'd keep him, I feel we could see more of him later in the season

Does Mata Want to Leave?

Let me ask him really quick.
