Is the interest in rice really gone? Baffling for me, can cover Cm And CB, homegrown and loves the club. No brainer for me.

I am pretty sure Ed002 has said on a few occasions that he was a Lampard pick as G8 says above.
If Saul recovers his form and even if one midfield player went in the summer he would still be 3/ 4th choice.

Jorginho will leave next summer and Kante is injury prone and will be 30 next summer - so there will be a need for Rice.

I predict that Rice will join us next summer for around £60m.

Why would West Ham drop their price next summer? If he is for sale City and United would also be interested. The club have demonstrated by the Kounde saga that they will not be shafted on transfer fees. Rice is not the best in his position in Europe and there will be cheaper alternatives if we need defensive midfielder. In the next two windows we may have to concentrate on CBS. Come January Christensen and Rudiger will be able to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs unless they sign new contracts. Dave is 32 and Thiago will undoubtedly be leaving at the end of the season.

Christensen's contract is as good as done, Rudiger wants to wait and see what his options are in January. Also reported by Matt Law. But I suspect we'll definitely need one CB in the next year.

Rice, for me, is certainly one of the best (consistent) players in his position, in the Premier League. But another year gone and another year away from his contract being up, his price will drop.

I expect Christensen to sign a new contract but nothing is certain he would be of interest to a number of clubs in Europe It will be Rudiger’s last big contract: he will look for a long term and much better wages: he too will be of interest to clubs in Europe especially on a free. Rice’s contract running down will increase the pressure on West Ham to cash in but not necessarily decrease the transfer fee by much especially if a number of clubs are interested: Man U are is desperate need of a defensive midfielder and would be probably willing to push the boat out.

Isn’t the projection of a lower fee for Rice next year linked to him not extending his contract?

I can see it being possible that Jorginho will move on and Kante’s injuries are always a worry. Not sure if Kovacic will stay, but I think he is most vulnerable if Saul works out.

In terms of the position next year, some of it might depend on whether Billy G proves himself ready for a more prominent role after his loan.

A four in 2022 of Kante, Saul, plus Rice and Gilmour doesn’t look bad. I’d be tempted to keep Gallagher around too, if only because I think he gets his batteries from the same supplier as N’golo.
