This post is dedicated to our vice captain J5 💙.

For those who slate him regularly, for those who make it sound as if his useless, today he showed a masterclass as to why he was so badly wanted by Pep.

We got hammered today, if felt like we was playing against Barcelona. Our midfield 3 looked like rabbits in headlight. Non of them could keep hold of the ball or control the match. J5 comes on and gave an example of how 1 man can control the middle, yes 1 man. He may not be Lampards cup of tea anymore, he may not suit the Chelsea style but show some respect to the vice captain. in a possession based team the man is sheer class.

Massive 3 points.

He played well when he came on Shak credit due I thought Gilmour played well only saw second half but made some good interceptions and was tidy on the ball. When we got the third we needed to shut up shop sloppy goal to concede but great 3 points.

I agree that he was decent when he came on, but the issue I have with Jorginho is that he can’t defend to save his life. it’s all good coming in and passing from side to side keeping possession, but when it comes to losing the ball and tracking back, he’s a massive liability.

Gilmour is a young player, I don't expect miracles from him yet. However, how Jorginho dictated the play is what our midfielders need to aspire to become when in possession of the ball. Jorginho seemed to be the only man who was free in acres of space and was pinging the ball everywhere. We created chances and could have killed the game. Our possession went from 30% to 80%.

This isn't me preaching his case, he will more than likely leave but our fan base need to show some respect to vice captain. He got booed last year and people were saying his dad is Sarri. show some respect.

From a defensive perspective, we have seen that even without Jorginho in the team, the team is no better. We can defend to save our lifes as a unit. Defensively we are not good enough as a unit, what Tammy Abraham did at the end is what's been happening every other week. An example can be seen from Tammy who could have cost the 3 points due to his sheer laziness.

Again I'm not preaching for Jorginho but show some respect.

Jorginho is a skilful footballer good at slowing things down, playing in limited space and keeping possession when we look to be panicking. I was glad to see him come on when he did tonight, and would have been if he had come on at a similar stage v West Ham. Indeed in absence of Kante and Kovacic there was a very strong case for starting him tonight. He has had several excellent games for us. perhaps particularly when he first arrived and in the UEFA league. Yet we also recall how often over last two seasons he has seemed to slow our attack down when playing against lowly opposition at home, not find v many telling forward passes, and been too slow defensively/ getting back. Perhaps the answer is that he is great in the right team or with style of play that suits him? I don;t quite know how to judge him overall but we may need him again in what's left of this season - not completely convinced by Billy G since restart - so wish Jorginho well if we do!

For me, Jorginho is a player any day any time. I feel if Chelsea wants to play a balanced possession football, we will need midfield-managers; besides Kante, we haven’t got any if we sell Jorginho. If our defence was stronger, a lot of us wouldn’t have noticed Jorginho’s weaknesses.

Sorry I just remembered that we have a midfield-manager in Kovacic but he has his flaws too.
Good post JBS; your post buttresses the point I made earlier when I was comparing Gilmour to Jorginho (in terms of what they can offer) from now till the end of this season. ‘Leaving Jorginho out of the team from till the end of the season isn’t the best decision (even if we want to sell him at the end of the season) ’. Chelsea needs Jorginho now cos Gilmour isn’t at that level YET.

Well said Obinna. I know his worth as a player, he divides a opinion. But he proved yet again yesterday that he can control the midfield with his passing, intelligence and the way he instructs the Chelsea players is 2nd only to non.

I've stopped commenting on Jorginho posts because the lack of respect and level of abuse thrown at him is quite frankly disgusting.

A man that got booed last year, a man that was abused with the Sarri links has been an absolute true professional. Despite not playing, the way he pats the players on the backs and the way he motivates them on is just sheer class.

I don't know why Jorginho is being overlooked - whether it is Jorginho or Frank insisting on him leaving. But the big problem with playing Jorginho has always been Kante - Jorginho can only play 1 position (it would seem) so, when he plays, Kante has to be played out of his best position which is DM.

And for me, Kante is a World class defensive midfielder and Jorginho is not - end of story.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has a number of midfield players to choose from - and Jorginho was not available for the first game.}
