Guys I know we have talked about Rice as a DM a lot and we have different opinions, but I remember Simon Johnson from The Athletic said that we are planning to sign him as a defender. Rice has lots of good defensive attributes and some of you guys rate him as a defender. I just wanted to know what's your opinion about him as a defender? I know Ed002 won't comment but it would be nice to have your input.

I can only think that if our club sign Rice it would be as a DM player.

If it’s true and the happy hammers value him at £70 mil, that valuation would be for a player who plays in midfield.

I’m not sure how the club could agree to pay that amount and then convert him to a CH.

For me we buy him as a DM who at a push could play CH.

Makes no sense to pay a premium price for a player who hasn't been playing in the position we want him for, assuming it is true.
I like him as a DM with an option to move to CB maybe at some point in the future.

I think Rice can develop into a very good CB, but the problems in his game right, as a CM, now will only be heightened as a CB.

I personally wouldn't make any more signings, after the GK. Let's get this squad settled, we have more than enough there to meet our targets and should be in a good position to assess what tweeks need to be made in January or next summer.

Interesting points from everyone. I think we need a DM now, but first need to offload a few from the midfield. But the need for a DM is evident IMO.
