My problem with the fabregas signing and I feel many people share this opinion is that he isn't really needed and it would be more of a luxury purchase combined with the fact that there are better options. To start off I think you need to assess where we need to strengthen and that's at striker (done), left back, and centre midfield. He doesn't fit into a centre mid role as he's poor physically (small and slow) and his work rate is pretty poor (despite people giving him the benefit of the doubt because he plays for barca). However the player that does fit that role would be Paul pogba and Ed has said that juve will have to sell him or Vidal and they have a strong preference to sell pogba between the two. When you look at competition barca seems to favor rakitic, real has bigger priorities and would need to find it mainly with player exchange (but juve need the money), and psg have to make a bunch of sales to balance the Luiz purchase and this would almost be impossible to balance. Then you look at left back and were told that the club don't want to purchase shaw because of the price but were willing to drop 30m on a luxury player. I could go round and round as to why paying the money for shaw is the smart move but that's not the point. If Oscar got sold then that would fit cescs role more but there are better options for that like Reus or greizmann and pushing Willian or hazard central not to mention piazon. I just think the issue isn't with fabregas as a player but more that there's bigger needs that are being sacrificed to get this deal.

What a load of rubbish.
Cesc played around 250 games for arsenal in a centre mid role and was 1 of the best attacking centre mids in the league.
He can easily play in a 2 next to matic, as the box to box, he doesn't hold on to the ball to long and always looking to go fwd. also got a goal in him.
He can also play in a 3 man midfield.
Can also play in the number 10 role if the others ain't doing it.
Quality player.
Don't understand why Jose isn't in for Luke shaw tho.
He's a must for us in lots of ways.
I personally think Jose can only do it with seasoned players, hasn't got the paitence to bring any kids through.

Varane was hardly seasoned when Jose gave him a chance.

I'm sure Jose would love Shaw Cfcmatt, and we agreed a few for Moreno but pulled out for some reason. That goes to show that Jose doesn't need ready made players. With regards to Shaw the club don't feel he's worth £30m, JM can't help that.
The whole thing about JM only being able to do it with seasoned players is BS to me. He hasn't been at any club long enough for him to do so. His objective at most the clubs he's been at, is to win as much as possible in a short amount of time.

{Ed002's Note - With Shaw, Chelsea don't think he is worth the price Southampton quoted in January. I have no idea where you get £30M from.}

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in discussing money.}

I'm not saying he couldn't fill some of those slots, rather that there are better (sometimes far better) options than him depending on the role were looking to fill. If you think he can be the box to box mid in a midfield two without us making drastic changes to our playing style then I completely disagree and won't argue as it would be a waste of time. You're saying that you would replace ramires running with fabregas. The only way he works for me is if we go to a midfield three and oscar wouldve had to be sold. He doesn't cover enough ground for a double pivot.

Tk I think he could fit in a midfield 2 against lower end opposition. When we don't necessarily need two holding players.

Sorry ed. I'd just meant that the club didn't think he was worth the price quoted by Soton. The £30m came from speculation in the media and what TK said. My point more being that our interest in Shaw/Moreno shows that JM isn't just interested in players already at their peak.
