How good is de jong? What's his favoured position?

I looked up some of his games for Barcelona when we were first linked to him.

If I remember correctly one of those games he played as a CH.

Got a good range of passing and looks very comfortable on the ball, not overly quick but faster than Jorginho (who isn’t) also not frightened of a challenge.

For me he is a definite upgrade on Jorginho and I think he looks top class.

My one reservation is our League. He looks comfortable when receiving the ball and being pressed but our league is more intense.

I would love him at our club and if he joins I can see Jorginho going to Juve in this window.

Jorginho out FDJ in seems upgrade, FDJ I think, plays further forward for Holland than barca,
Wondered what his best role is,

De jong is fantastic and would partner Kovacic/ kante perfectly. Gallagher could partner any of them also.

Matt, mainly because of his range of passing and positional discipline I would definitely say DM.

De Jong is a DM/ CM; and quite simply a world class central midfielder (for me) . Like we got Cucurella, I pray we get De Jong, he’ll improve us massively.

{Ed001's Note - do you really think he is world class? Why? Cucurella I would agree and is a great signing, but I am not 100% convinced by De Jong, though I do think he is a step up on Jorginho, which would be why I think he would be good for Chelsea. But I just don't see world class in him, nor do I see him as a DM. Deep-lying playmaker like Jorginho, yes, but defensive? God no.}

I haven't seen much of de Jong so great to get all this feedback,

My only question if Jorginho leaves is who will be the reliable penalty taker in his place and of course he's been joint to scorer for us which says a lot about lack of prolific forward!

Totally agree Ed.
If we are going to spend 80 million for him, why not just go for Rice? He is PL proven and a Chelsea boy, would give his heart and soul for us and he would also give a leader that we have been lacking. A midfield trio of Rice Mount and CG would be very interesting.

Your thoughts on us signing Rice Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - I think Rice would be a fantastic signing and far more suited to the Prem. If he wasn't English every EPL team's fans would be clamouring for their team to sign him. The problem is that because he is people think that, like so many before him, he is being overrated simply because he is English. However, for once, he deserves the hype as he is a fantastic player. Man City made a huge mistake going for Phillips over him, as he is much better than Phillips and absolutely ideal for them. I think he walks into just about any team in the world.}

If only we could sign Rice. He would have been my No1 target of this season or any season. Total class. I’m.

I don’t know anything about de jong but pretty sure Rice would be a better option but I can’t see WHU selling him this season. I am also loathe to send any cash Barcelona’s way. If I had a choice I would forgo a midfielder and spend the money on a young striker and go in for Rice next summer but I appreciate there are really no strikers available.

Could not agree more Ed, thank you for your comment.

If there is any chance for us signing Rice, I would totally follow it. Apparently Tuchel is also interested in him.

Jimbo I agree mate. Working with Barça is like working with a super villain right now.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

Rice - Great engine but no steering wheel and does not shine in possesion (albeit massively improved) .

Jorghi - Lovely handling but no engine and leaves us soft in the middle on occasion.

FDJ - A balanced option. He's vastly more physical than Joghi and is much more used to playing 'with' posession.

FDJ is a very nice option IMO.

{Ed001's Note - Rice shines in possession! I have no idea what you mean about steering wheel, but Rice is excellent in possession, it is the biggest problem he has is that he is being limited by Moyes's way of playing. On the ball the lad is quality, has good vision and range of passing and the capability of breaking the lines by bringing the ball out from the back and beating a player.}

Absolutely agree, Ed001. Rice is twice the player De Jong is.

{Ed002's Note - They play in different positions.}

Rice would certainly be my number one choice. Perhaps we will get him next summer? Point is that Kante can't last forever and is troubled by injury so we will soon need a replacement perhaps for him as well as J5.

Rice is twice the player FDJ is: I can only laugh. Time will tell.

They're both very nice players.

Neither play for Chelsea or in the sand role.

FDJ and rice are both midfeilders. And agree. Rice has been the player for years we need to sign. He is absolute quality.
