Supposedly Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Fofana. Even if true it doesn't mean much.

Where did you see that Tom? be great if true, he is a baller for sure. I'm enjoying this window, so many twists and turns and yet I know, Chelsea being Chelsea, we will finish top 4, win a pot or 2 and yet still have a few moaning so much and slating this, that and everything else. we all know who they are. ??.

Most expensive squad in the league? ?? maybe if Lukaku was here it might be close, but think you’ll find that City’s squad is the most expensive and United gave the biggest wage bill or city I’m not sure ?.

So I did a little look up and based on the prices paid for players in our current squads it goes as follows:
City £895m
United £710m
Chelsea £660m
Liverpool £560m
Now with us that includes players like Azpi, Emerson, Alonso, Batshuayi and Barkley who total £100m which I expect all to leave. Obvs it will also go up based on others we sign. But overall City far and away have THE most expensive squad in the PL, with them potentially paying 50m+ for Cucarella I don’t see us or anyone surpassing them this year.
Also it’s reported that as of March 2022, the highest wage bills were:
City
Chelsea
United
Liverpool
Obviously that will have changed with Haaland, Nunez coming in, Salah new contract, Lukaku leaving. But overall, by and large the wage bills at that point in time were fairly even.

Lukaku was certainly was a mistake and to think some were raving about him being a game changer including the previous Chelsea structure.

It could be that in Italian football he will flourish again, score lots of goals. We could then look to make any deal permanent for hopefully a large ish fee.

Moving the “problem” or “kicking the can” to a future date may actually turn out to be a reasonable decision.

It’s about how you prefer to see any problems.

It's such a tiresome window, TomB - I definitely feel that way too, at least!
So many rumours, so many deals apparently being incredibly close, yet nothing happens off of most of the reported "agreements" so far. Wow.
What I can say, though, is that in some way it might be a tiny blessing in disguise. I think it would be nice if we gave a chance to players like Gallagher (that one seems certain), but also Covill, Ampadu etc. As the wise Ed01 so often says, clubs should generally be better at looking at what they've already got before splashing enormous amounts on no-more-than-decent players!

Emil, I agree if we have a lack of signings by the start of the season it will give others an opportunity.

I would like us to sign maybe three more players but if we don’t dime will just move onto the next window to moan or say the club lacks ambition.

With the amount of changes taking place at all levels within the club I think dome fans need to rationalise there expectations. You never know we could all end up being surprised come the end of the season.

Tom, in my view any important signings should be made in the summer. The January window is for tinkering or to cover injuries or in worse case scenario desperation and if that’s the case, selling clubs can smell the blood and add the odd 10 million to the fee.

I agree very much with that point. I trust the process very much, but reading about all of these players joining and then not joining is a bit tiresome! I am certain the club is doing their best so be as competitive as possible both this season and in the future!

Whatever some of you say, Matt is right about Lukaku, the issue hasn’t been solved it’s has been put to the back of the mind, just like before digital bills, putting the red envelope behind the clock on the mantelpiece. We just have to accept it was a big expensive mistake.

It’s all an act I’m very positive, sometimes I like to respond to g8 because I know I wind him up, other times people are too biased and unrealistic and other times the truth is the truth and an honest opinion not just negative, I’m the panto villain on here but truth is think we play a good fast style of football, I can’t think of a player signed who’s not over achieved and I’m pretty sure we will win the league,

Jimbo, we would all the the signings to be made I. The first day of a window but signing players isn’t easy. Players don’t have to leave and clubs don’t have to sell also both players and clubs are entitled to have a preference on who they sell to or play for.

So far we have missed out on two players and money doesn’t appear to be an issue.

We all knew that about 8-10 players would be leaving in this window and we all knew that this window would be a rebuild with new signings and integrating loan players.

I want us to win everything but I’m a realist who believes this will probably be a long overdue re-build season.

Tom, I don’t worry about when we make signings rather who they are. We have made 2 good signings so far. As for Kounde Sevilla are saying the deal was agreed but we dithered. I am not too worried about Kounde particularly if we could get Fofana ( which I doubt) . There are some reports that we went back in for Ake, which I hope is untrue . I know who I would like in but I won’t say otherwise it will jinx it. We also need to start moving players out to re-focus the squad .
