What do you guys think about Ashley Cole joining Lamps at Everton?

Personally I think it's a very good move for Everton. Their partnership (Lamps and Cole) could potentially bring out the best in Everton and they could rebuild that old team with exciting young players which means the Merseyside Blues could be one of the destinations for our own young players.
From a managerial standpoint, I think Cole could help Lampard a lot on the defensive end of the pitch, giving him something he probably lacked a bit at Chelsea.
Anyway good luck to them both. I hope they win every game but lose to us every time.

{Ed001's Note - why is it good? Lampard needed an experienced head not another novice coach learning the game. It just shows he has learnt nothing and is too arrogant to take the lessons from his time at Chelsea imo. He wouldn't except experienced help offered to him and he still refuses it now, it shows a lack of humility to think he knows it all and doesn't need someone alongside him to guide him.}

He did take Paul Clement and I think Steve Holland rejected the opportunity.

{Ed001's Note - Clement has already been shown to be a poor manager, not someone you want alongside you giving you help and advice.}

Disagree there Ed. I think the appointment of Paul Clement on his back room staff and no Jody Morris will help a bundle.

{Ed001's Note - Morris? Omg it gets worse. None of these are experienced successful managers to advise him. That was how it was always done in the past.}

Don’t remember anyone slating Clement in 2010 as Ancelotti’s assistant when we won the double and as for Jody he was the worst thing Frank did first time around you’ve misread my words.

We gave young inexperienced coaches a starting role and they’ve gone at the first offering which is bit annoying, like Ed said, It was well documented on here that he was offered advice from experienced personnel and refused it, seems the same as when he he got to us, has big hand in the signings, Harry redknapp is praising the signings and lampards pull and when it doesn’t work I’m sure uncle Harry will say they had nothing to do with Frank and he deserved more time / guidance. As long as they beat Newcastle and any teams around us ill be happy, apart from that it’s just Everton.

Wow Ed, that's a bit harsh isn't it?

Well whatever choice Lampard has made, past and present, it's on him and how he feels. I don't think refusing experienced help shows anything specific about him, it's just his preference and the way he wants to manage his teams.

The addition of Cole will help Everton and Lampard because he was an exceptional player who has seen it all and as already stated by different sources, he is very good at defensive coaching. He understands the PL game and I think he can form a great coaching partnership with Lampard.

Great players don’t automatically make great managers,

Didn’t think Lamps was that bad at Chelsea. Football was pretty good. Played expansive football. Promoted YA players, got a 4th place, done well in the CL, was unlucky to draw by Bayern Munich who were the best team in the world bar none. The team got cooked by the ref in the FA cup final v Arsenal. (Arsenal had 2 fouls given against them. Two fouls in a London derby Wembley cup final, it beggars belief! ) Meanwhile Chelsea get a man sent off for making two tackles. Second season started okay, signed Tiago Silva. again expensive football, again YA players getting a look in, top of the league early December, I pretty much agreed with who he was sidelining. Again done well in the CL, then the wheels came off and everything that could go wrong did go wrong in December and January. Result? he gets Sacked. On full reflection the sacking worked. Chelsea go on and win the CL, I don’t think Frank could have pulled that off. However for me, he never carried one stroke of luck in that 8 week run. But as Napoleon once said, give me lucky generals over good ones.

I think very few great players have made decent managers; Cruyff, Zidane, apparently Brian Clough was a decent player but had his career cut short by injury but he wouldn’t count as a great player.

Alf Ramsey could play a bit and is strangely rarely mentioned as a player!

I totally agree Stephen, the wheels came of quite quickly and the results never went our way. It wasn't meant to be I guess.

I agree Jimbo about great players not making good coaches, but you can't overlook the amount of knowledge and experience a top level world class player has. Surely that means something.

Ashk being a top class footballer playing at the highest level should mean something I agree but I guess there are different skills needed to be a top class coach. I remember hearing about Alan Ball getting a job as a manager and going into the dressing room and throwing down his World Cup Winner’s medal and saying “ I’m a winner” : that didn’t end well.

I agree Jimbo. There are multiple factors that affect the outcome of a managerial career.
Whatever happens, people accumulate knowledge through the experiences that they have. Perhaps this fresh start for Lamps would have different results.
