ed001
could i get your opinion on declan rice if you have a minute
im not convinced i think he's slow and always seems to be out of position the germans bypassed him at ease and there 2 mids had the freedom of wembley especially in 1st half
i could be wrong i just don't get all the fuss.

{Ed001's Note - forget what happens in international footie, it is irrelevant. He is far from slow but he has not been playing as a sitting mid for a while, with Soucek alongside him, the pair have been alternating and found a good balance between them. He is a very good player, good range of passing, good mobility, able to drop back into defence if needed, strong, tall and can get forward if needed. Given the kind of partnership he has developed with the Czech he is excellent, he doesn't get the time with England to work on it and their system is far too defensive to get the best from him.}

Thank you very much Ed001. I can't understand how people don't rate Rice! I think it's easy to mock someone's name.

England have not conceded a single goal in the Euros and it is so because Rice and Phillips protect the defence very well.

I hope he comes to Chelsea this summer.

{Ed001's Note - I think Rice is a very good player. As is Phillips. It is easy to miss what Rice does though as he is often overshadowed by the likes of Soucek getting in the goals. It is because he has good positional sense, so rarely gets caught chasing and so you might not notice what he is doing.}

One thing that always catches my eye with Rice is how he seems to be a magnet for opposition cutbacks in his own box. He's seemingly in the right place almost every time. An absolutely outstanding player and he seems to love Chelsea. He'd probably stay at Chelsea for as long as he could if he makes the move. That's valuable.

That said, I hope the club get Tchouameni regardless of Rice. 2 different players, and Tchouameni's a special talent as well.

Jackson, he is coming home!

{Ed0666's Note - Having Rice and Mount in you’re midfield would be pretty amazing and great for them seeing their besties

thanks for reply ed appreciate it i will take a closer look now you have mentioned his strengths, maybe because i don't watch west ham but i do england i don't see his quality
thanks.

{Ed001's Note - that will make a huge difference. He has more freedom to play at the Hammers, also more responsibility as their main leader, and it really seems to bring the best out of him.}

That's an interesting take on International football Ed001.
Normally people quote international football in a derogatory way stating its easier and players performance levels can't be judged in that arena.
Jorghino performing well for Italy is a case in point.
But despite Rice having a mobile and energetic partner to help him he still manages to look very limited in many games and as stated above he barely featured in the first half against Germany.

{Ed001's Note - international football is easier, it is so slow, especially compared to English football which is among the fastest leagues in play. You just can't compare how someone plays in a game they have to completely change their game for, to the way they play every week. It is a totally different game. For starters you are judging Rice as limited, when those limits are applied by the manager, who sets out how he plays.}

Thank you Ed001 for your valuable input. Cheers.

Gola, I think it's very sick to mock someone's name. My sympathies mate for whatever you have received.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome.}
