I know there's a few nationalities on here. What are people's feelings on the club developing its own players?

Personally I love to see players coming though, especially after such a long gap since Terry. But I also recognise I habitually see them through blue tinted glasses. It's not a nationality thing, don't care if they're English or any other nationality, I'm just proud to see the club producing its own talent.

For me, if Lampard is replaced, that has to continue to be a big part of the mission statement for his replacement - so long as the talent coming through is good enough.

Agreed J. Also that would become priority no.1 once fa makes changes on number of home grown and club developed in line with uefa requirements.

The cub and us fans should be proud of our continued success at youth level.

Like a lot of fans I was pleased that some of our more talented academy players would be given a chance to prove themselves in the first team.

I do not care what part of the world they come from.

I hope whatever happens in the future that our young talent get given chances to prove their worth at our club.

All great posts guys. Got to be the way forward. Nurturing and promoting youth. I am not totally clear on the English and European YA football set up, but are Chelsea not just about “THE” team to be with? Winning tournaments and cups right left and centre? Even if you can uncover 1 player that can play at CL/ PL level every other year your first team would be the basis of of your academy. In terms of financing the YA, selling on Chelsea trained YA academy players who are just short of PL or CL level for nominal fees of 4 or 5 million to provincial clubs would surely help make it a self financing viability. But there also has to be support and genuine interest form the first team coach for this model to work.

{Ed001's Note - you also need to consider that the rules on homegrown and club developed are going to become more important to the Prem in the future. You will soon be required to have more of them in your team, so you have to look to the academy more anyway. Whether people like it or not, the change is coming.}

Yes this has probably been the most encouragingb thing to have happened since beginning of last season and to have come out of the transfer ban problem. Few managers before Frank seemed to trust the youth, preferred to rely on already proven experienced players - and of course this brought (rival fans often hypocritically said 'bought') us success -but what I've always hoped for as with many others on here (and am sure Roman has hoped and expected this too! ) was for the fantastic investment and success with our academy program to turn into regularly providing quality players for the first team. This is beginning to happen, though at a time when we have also made up for lost transfer time by bringing in so many new players from outside the club too as part of the rebuilding process. May this process continue, though getting this to work in terms of blenidning all together and winning trophies will surely take some time and fair bit of patience not least from us on here!

Ed001
What is the timeframe on the new rules and what are they?
Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - it will be a gradual tightening over the next few years and it will just mean the number of homegrown player and club-developed player spaces in the squad will be increased and the number of foreign players allowed will be reduced.}

Great post J and I have to say I agree with you completely.

I'm from Iran and I've been a fan since I was a kid and I love seeing our young players given a chance and become a first team player.

I think the new rule should have happened long ago.
