Why in the world Chelsea sold Lamptey?

Because he didn't feel that he'd make it at Chelsea with Reece only being a year older than him and playing in the same position probably?
Lamptey had 6 months left on his deal, and evidently decided he wasn't going to extend as Reece would block his path into the first team. Chelsea were right to let him go if he wasn't going to sign an extension.

Lamptey is a good player, and fun to watch. But I think Reece has more to his game than Lamptey. More versatile, stronger, and a better delivery (crossing + shooting) . Lamptey's got pace over Reece, but that's about it. That said, I'm rooting for Tariq whenever he's not playing Chelsea. And Brighton have built quite a strong looking defense with Dunk, White, Webster and Lamptey.

If he turns out great, there is a big chance that Chelsea can buy him back in the future, I don’t mean he has a buyback clause.
Personally, I think he will make a very good wing back- as his height is a serious minus to him being a full back. I get the feeling that if he was taller perhaps the club would have done all it takes to make sure he stays.
