Read that Chelsea have opened talks of an improved contract renewal with Emerson Palmieri- that is a good move by the board if the news is true.

Been a revelation so far this season. Do we need a new left back next year? We obviously need someone to rotate as hopefully Alonso goes. Is Maatsen good enough or still too young.

I think the asking price for Chilwell of like 60m + is a joke for a rotation option. I’ve heard Alex Telles can be bought for less than 40m so it’s a no brainer for me.

I will gladly hold my hand up and admit I vastly underestimated Emerson. Initially I was reluctant as I felt he was going to be another stop gap body that would cost a high fee and wage before occupying a bench role and eventually being shipped out for a massive loss.

To say that he’s blown away those expectations is an understatement. He’s incredibly solid and you rarely notice him which in a sense is a complement as a defender. He’s great at providing overlapping runs for width but doesn’t get caught out of position upfield. While I’m not saying he’s world class, I think there may be only three or so clearly better left backs in the world at most (Robertson, Alaba, Alba) .

I honestly can only remember one game, in which I think he played badly, and that was against Liverpool last season, where Salah messed him up really badly. That however can happen to literally any defender when Salah is on his highest, and I think he's proven to be such a great signing for a very, very good price!
