Before now, the perception of Chelsea is that: It is one of those clubs that many players wants to com to, stay and many don't want to leave. Tbh, that perception is changed drastically; i don't know what seems to be the reason for this. These days, you see players not wanting to sign deals without assurances, agents of Players talk uncontrollably to the press, players and agents of players (of certain positions) giving the club conditions cos they don't want the club to bring in players in the same position cos of fear of competition. I honestly don't like this new identity that the. club is taking-up.

Good post Obinna. I think you will find that there has been a power shift. I think what Man City are now is what we were. Players at City don't talk about leaving unless they ain't playing.

You are right CFCShak, you spoke my thoughts. Tbh, it's making Chelsea look very mediocre, we are like what Arsenal used to be. It's not a good thing cos. Imagine Hudson Odoi that is just a kid looking like he's holding Chelsea to ransome (everyone's seriously freighting for him to sign a new deal) ; I believe if we were a bit of what we were maybe Eden Hazard might not have left for Real Madrid; Jorginho's agent comments (the other day) seemed to cause a huge ripple in the press and the club; the club looks like it can no longer compete for top players (with certain clubs that we were far ahead-of before- both in the EPL and in Europe) ; Chelsea now shy away from buying the best players cos we feel they are expensive (when there's actually no quality player that's cheap in the market) ; our hiring and firing of coaches now looks like an endemic incurable disease; the list continues. I must be honest that it's bad the brand of the club going forward.

Assuming we don’t ask for a suspension of the transfer ban, there is NO Chelsea transfer news other than utilising/ bringing back our loan players.

The media continue with its efforts to create stories about us but I guess that’s their job!

I’m not happy with the historical manager merry go round but the club can certainly say it’s brought us success.

A quiet year and another Premiership Title would be very welcome as far as I’m concerned.

How many trophies have we won, we won't be held ransom and will not stop anyone going who doesn’t want to be at the club, that makes us less powerful, ( really ) I don’t think so., sane is already moaning and I bet there’s a few more there hazard was always going to be fair and all the best to him.

Obinna Nwanne m, the unfortunate thing here is that some of us who claim to love Chelsea more never see anything wrong with us fast becoming a mediocre club. Maybe some are too used to pre Roman era when we are not such a big team in contesting for trophies. The decline is obvious and anyone who dare to say it is considered as being negative.
We didn't become the Chelsea we were in recent years by this approach and IMO we may not be as big if we tow this line. We must invest on a few world class players to sustain our place among the big clubs. Then complement with other good players and a few academy players who really earned their place. I'm more interested in Chelsea winning trophies than giving out positions players who are not ready to challenge for spots in the team. ATM few of our players can get a regular game in any of the big teams even in the EPL. Maybe only Kante and that's a huge statement.

We'll always be a very attractive club to players, that perception hasn't changed at all for me. We're the most successful club in England over the past decade. Players have always wanted assurances before signing deals and agents the same when negotiating for their players. That's not a problem that just involves us it's something every big club has to deal with. Nothings changed much at all. My issue was we seemingly had this policy of we wouldn't let someone leave unless they're replaced instead of looking to the youth or loanees. That can be put on the current managers we've had and just not the board as well though. But it's lead to us wasting money on players that weren't necessarily needed and could've been put towards a position that did need strengthening. I think we're going in a good direction with the changes we're making at the club. Having Lampard and Jody back to have that connection with the youth set-up will help us massively. It'll give our talented youth chances to fill positions instead of going out and buying them which will help us spend more money on top players for positions that are needed.

G8, the 'beauty' of mediocrity is that you see nothing wrong and you see your present situation as OK until you hit rock bottom and can't come back up. Thankyou very ilo nwanem.

I wonder how many teams would like to be as mediocre as us? We have won a pot every season for the last three years and we will be back in the Champions League next season.

City have raised the game to a new level in the same way we did in the early Roman years but we will come again. We will be competitive next season even if we don’t look to postpone the transfer ban.

Tomb and Nibby; there are feats (trophies/ achievements) that Chelsea have achieved (that is great) which we can boast with to other clubs, but I feel what actually makes the difference is: Can you boast to yourself of the same feats (in private) looking at what other clubs are doing at the moment? I think we should read the Manchester United script and learn from it. Besides, I respect the fact that we have a ban.

The Manchester United script? Pay any fee, any wage and have Sanchez sat on the bench earning £500,000k a week? All whilst missing out on top four? I'll give that script a miss Obinna, thanks.

No J., that isn't what I meant by the Manchester United script (you misunderstand me completely) ; I meant the script of how Manchester United went from being very successful to this present state. We need to ask ourselves how ManU got to this point where it seems like they keep spending heavily but nothing seems to be working.
J., what you have just said about Manchester united is one of the negative consequence of the point that I am trying to make.

Teams have dominant periods We have, Arsenal have, Utd have and now it’s City’s turn. People with long memories will even recall how dominant the Scousers were.

IMO our investment in a top class youth system will eventually hold us in good stead.

The route Chelsea are trying to take is the complete opposite to that of United. Believe it or not Chelsea are desperate to be as self sufficient as possible, building a squad around graduates of the youth team and, where the quality isn't coming through in certain positions, look to spend wisely to fill those gaps with quality signings. One of the consequences of chopping and changing managers recently has been that, unlike before when new managers generally picked up Mourinho's first team and tactics, we've signed players that fit certain tactics but then taken on new managers who insist on completely different tactics. We need a consistent core to build around. Hopefully with Lampard, Cech, etc. we'll have that.

Sir Alex Ferguson's time at United was the polar opposite to now. He quickly realised that sustained success was next to impossible, identifying that the need to rebuild was natural for a successful team. He didn't panic when his United had a down year or two, he simply looked at where the re-build was required; also identifying that a strong core of the squad coming through the youth system made for a much more effective rebuild. When he left, and United hit a slump, the club panicked and tried to spend their way out of trouble; they're now in a lot of trouble.
