Several papers report that Chelsea have laid out their transfer targets for the summer. Therefore, does that mean Conte might be staying although I think unlikely or and more worrying, that would appear to indicate that the new manager will have little input to the proposed acquisitions. Is history going to repeat itself?

To he fair this has been our business model for a very long time and it has brought us success. We know our head coaches do not have a great deal of input into the players brought in. We have a team of people who look into that. I am sure there are lots of people who would prefer to have a manager who is in control of the transfers however this is not the way the club works and will not be changing its way anytime soon. I can only assume any coach coming in is aware of this information. (All information has been read from this site etc. I could have the wrong end of the stick-eds correct me if I am wrong)

You are totally right BIGPHIL and it has been explained many times before what our business model is and rightly or wrongly it is not going to change. It has brought great success over the years and more and more clubs tend to go down this route now as managers don't tend to last long at any one club nowadays with all the pressure. The world of football has changed dramatically since the Fergie and Wenger eras.

That's the issue, should it change? All managers like to work with certain types of players and dislike others and as much as we have had a lot of success we have not been very consistent after Mourinho's first stint and for every good buy we have made you are all aware of the total waste of money with others. Naturally there are those that will say "who cares it's not our money" and my answer is billionaires do not like wasting money anymore than we do. I agree managers are no longer in charge of the purse strings but they should have input to who they work with.

I agree. I miss the old game but that has gone the way of the dodo and the dinosaurs. I hope the people in charge of the transfers start to allow the loan army and the youth to fill the squad roles and spend big on one player a season who can improve the first 11. That is the change I hope for. we know we will always have a change of manager pretty regularly. Even before Roman took over this was the case. When was the last time we had a manager the lasted longer than 4 seasons? We have never really had a Ferguson or a Wenger and Undoubtedly we ever will. So whilst some changes will be needed in the recruitment process I don't believe allowing the manager that choice is the way to go for our club.

The fact that we have finalised our transfer targets could also mean that we have a new manager already in place and that he has had an input.

MDW: or Conte is staying! The 48 hours after the Cup Final are going to be VERY interesting.
