I honestly feel disappointed that the replacement that Chelsea has for a top player like Rudiger (at LCB) is Ake, I hope we know what we are doing.

Ake is a good player and ticks a lot of boxes for what we need. He might not be the glamour signing we want but he could be exactly the signing we need.

Saying that I do expect us to get at least one more CB, a rb (possibly LB depending on departures) and a couple of attacking players. The window still has a long way to go - id rather we get what improves the first team and squad as a whole rather than spend 100 mil on a glamour signing like we last summer. after all the upheaval going into this summer a bit of steadying the ship is just what we need.

Although I'm not in favour of signing Ake, perhaps TT has seen something in him that he has personally asked for him. Perhaps like when we brought back Moses.
Anyway I think the quoted price is a bit ridiculous.

I feel Chelsea has a clean slate to rewrite some wrongs (in certain positions in the team) at the moment, there are better available and younger CB options out there that are available to us in the market- are they expensive? Yes (as they should be cos they are quality) . CB is one key position that any team that wants to compete must have the right personnel in- no right thinking manager or team penny pinches or start thinking cost cost cost when they sign a centre back, what is mostly paramount in their mind is getting the right QUALITY.

If Boehly wants brand; it’s important to note that quality and longevity builds brands; how he (Boehly) starts will be important. Personally, I think Ake is not the kind of centre back that will take Chelsea to Eldorado, is Ake a good player? Of course he is but bringing in Ake to replace a top defender like Rudiger is a downward move- not an upward move; and what we need to be great again under Boehly are upward moves. Please we are Chelsea- let’s act like a successful club sometimes.

Please I subscribe to upward moves and in a situation where we can’t get the right (upward) personnel for any position, we should stick with what we have or look to our quality academy/ young players (at least for the time being) . For instance, I would rather Chelsea sticks with Levi Colwill this season than buy a player like Ake.

Wheelycfc; what do you think Ake’s role in the team would be if not a LCB (left centre back) in a back-3 or in a back-4? I can only remember Rudiger played as a LCB under Tuchel at Chelsea and Ake played as a LCB in a back-4 at City

Ake = LCB; Rudiger LCB (under Tuchel at Chelsea) .
