The talk of mata going to Man U makes sense because he is the type of player they need. However Rooney is the type of player that Chelsea need, so I assume there would be no objection to a straight swap. There again it is probably just paper talk.

We would be silly to sell to UTD, mata is still quality. I understand/like Mourinho understanding of a hard working player, but mata has done wonders for Chelsea and deserves a bit more respect. I would like to see mata track back a bit more when he loses the ball but I don't think that is his game.

Fingers crossed to Mata-Rooney swap.

Makes very little sense to me, Mata is a class act, yes he doesn't fit the Mourinho system but if he goes it should be abroad no question. Rooney will have only 1 year left on his contract in summer, united are no way certain of champions league football next season. So if Chelsea still want him come summer time we hold most of the cards to be fair. 25mill for a 29yr old or risk loosing him for free in a year? Uniteds problem so don't bail them out by giving them Mata

Agree with CLL above. I find it bizarre if it is true that Utd are weighing up a bid for Mata, they already have a Mata-esque creative no. 10 in the form of Kagawa who they fail to play and get the best out of. They'd be far better served by using him more effectively. Would not see a straight-swap deal for Rooney happening whatsoever. Albeit I think Rooney's style of play would work well and supplement Lukaku's next season; I think WE would be better served by not selling arguably our 2nd/3rd best player to a direct rival and give them a chance to dig themselves out of a hole. Put in another speculative bid for Rooney, keep Mata or failing that do not sell him to Utd.

Can't see Mata going anywhere now as we'd only have Schurrle as cover for Oscar, Hazard and Willian. If we got struck with injuries we'd be in a bad way.

It is a sad situation though, I'd like to see him go out of respect for the player. He would demand first team football at almost any club in the World, it's just a shame he doesn't fit Jose's style.

Loan wouldn't work either because he'd probably train and be played in the role that again doesn't suit Jose so he'd come back and be back to square 1.

As far as swapping for Rooney goes that'd be absolutely mental for the same reasons stated by CLL. Contract, age and ability wise Mata is worth almost double Rooney. Plus I can't see Rooney wanting to stay at United come the end of the season or Mata wanting to move to them. A fair swap may have been De Bruyne for Rooney when everything is taken into consideration.

Not going to happen at all. Mourinho is smart to not sell to a rival. If reckon there's more chance of a swap for Diego Costa

If, and a big if, the fee is indeed £37-40 million the quite simply I would snatch their hand off. We can't take any more points of Manchester United this season but maybe, just maybe he could help them take points off our direct rivals this season. In the summer other players better able to fit into our system will be around
Juan is a great player but alas he just doesn't fit the current system and if Jose is to be around for say 3 years I can't see Juan cementing a place.
Whilst we don't want to become a selling club w have to become a lot smarter in the transfer market
