As you probably are aware I am generally unimpressed by stats. XG, shots on target ( weak shot picked up by the GL) and particularly possession. A lot had been made that Kane had exceeded Pele for international goals. These sort of stats have to be put in context. For instance, Lukaku and a Malaysian, Iranian and Indian player are all above Pele for scoring international goals.


I will never be budged on my opinion that Pele was the greatest footballer of all time and Mohamed Ali was the greatest heavyweight. Quote as many stats as you like: they can be useful but do not prove anything. As for football the team with the most points win the premier league and are the best; no argument.

Well it is arguable that points are stats if you want to be pedantic. I don’t like meaningless stats like the examples I mentioned.
