Can anyone actually explain why people here don't like Mikel? It top form at the minute and one of the first names on the team sheet for me.
{Ed018's Note - he's been playing good lately and I'm usually one of his biggest critics. I wish he could player that killer ball more often though. That's what he lacks. He did pick out Eto nicely today but for some reason Eto forgot how to run, he should've been in on goal}
1.) Here's my reasons; he slows play down way too much, wants too much time and generally takes too many touches on the ball, his passes are generally sideways or backwards. Things are made worse when he is paired with Lampard as it has such a negative effect on our speed (particularly in transition). Mikel looks the part against weaker opposition and has looked good at times with the right partner in midfield.
One of the reasons I liked the van Ginkel signing was that his first thought on the ball seems to be of a progressive nature (i.e. looking for a forward pass or to transition at speed). Just my opinion though.
2.) Im a huge sell Mikel fan however I will admit he has played well the last few games, seems to be moving the ball forward more. Not ideal but as a stop gap he is good at what he does.
