Hi Ed002,

Would Chelsea consider moving for Fofana if Barcelona sign Kounde? I am certainly hoping so. I personally think he's just as good, prem proven and he's considerably taller.

Thanks as always.

James13

{Ed002's Note - He is on the list.}

1.) 25 Jul 2022 11:11:22
ED

was Muklele on the list as it looks like he is off to PSG.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 25 Jul 2022 11:40:57
Thank you for your quick response ED.

3.) 25 Jul 2022 11:50:00
He would be much better than Kounde. He was my first choice but think he’ll be unrealistic after signing a new contract.

There’s plenty of players mid table in the premier league of quality who could come here and make a big difference. Ruben Neves being another one we could do with a creative midfielder.

4.) 25 Jul 2022 20:05:34
Agree about Neves Jay.

Hi Ed002,

Are Chelsea considering a bid for Gnabry?

If we can sign him for no more than £45m (a good chunk cheaper than Raphinha) it would be a pleasing conclusion.

Thanks as always for your expertise.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Serge Gnabry (RW/LW) Seems to fail to settle at any club and is not open to signing a new contract without a significant increase in salary, and it is his very significant financial demands that are proving to be a problem over a new contract. Barcelona have him on their list of options, but they are going to have to balance summer transfers carefully and his wage demands will be an issue, so they can be discounted. The wages are less of a problem for Juventus where tax laws are beneficial but they have preferred options. Real Madrid consider him an option to Mbappe as they look to shake up their wingers, but there are others ahead of him on their list, but the player wants to move to Madrid. Versatile enough to be considered a Martial replacement at Manchester United and on the list for Liverpool as a potential Salah replacement - but neither would want to break the bank for him and not being in the CL will end any vague interest Manchester United have. Manchester City have a much preferred option to replace Sterling, but he may not be attainable. Has been offered to Chelsea and PSG by his agent, but both see the wage demands as far too high right now. Although interested, a return to Arsenal does not make sense for the player and with no Champions League, and huge costs it seems less likely.}

Hi Ed001 / Ed002,

Long time no post.

Do Chelsea have an interest in Sancho?

Do Chelsea have interest in Rice?

Thanks for your time.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Have you been playing on Twitter again to come up with these random names? There would be about zero chance that Rice would move to Chelsea and there is of course no interest in wither.

1.) 29 Sep 2019 16:07:45
Good I don’t want Rice here anyway.

2.) 29 Sep 2019 22:58:18
No I don’t use twitter. I just thought they might be two players that Chelsea would be interested in. I thought Rice would be unlikely but then he would be the third English midfielder to move to Chelsea from West Ham in recent times, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented.

3.) 29 Sep 2019 23:40:30
But you want Sancho here 'anyway'? 😜.

4.) 30 Sep 2019 07:26:35
What do you mean Obinna? Talk sense.

5.) 01 Oct 2019 00:50:28
Calm down BB91, Don't be too serious, we aren't in a tribunal. A little joke won't kill no one.

Dear Ed002,

Do Chelsea or any other clubs have an interest in Santos' Gabriel Barbosa? Many thanks.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Santos' Gabriel Barbosa is of interest to Fiorentina, PSG, Galatasaray, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United. However, although much is expected of him he is only a teenager and whilst there is an agreement between Santos and Barcelona that may be exercised in 2016, I suspect that he won't move there at that time. Chelsea have tried and continue to try to strike a deal - but it may be a while away. His agent mentioned that Fenerbahce had made an offer but I suspect that is incorrect and it was Galatasaray and there interest has now gone. I rather doubt Gabriel will end up in Manchester, unless it is in the away dressing room.}

Hey Ed018,

Any interest in Aymeric Laporte? Would surely be more realistic to get him than Varane and I personally think he's as good if not better and less injury prone. Has also got great pace. I thought it was a given he would go to Madrid or Barca but he's still at Bilbao. Him and Zouma would be like a new Lebouef Desailly partnership. Please tell me we are interested.

James13

{Ed018's Note - I've never heard of any interest in him from Chelsea}

1.) 16 Jul 2015 17:33:28
Laporte isn't that fast to be honest. But he is a quality young player. What i'd like about him and Zouma would be the right/left foot partnership combination.

2.) 16 Jul 2015 23:27:16
I believe ed002 mentioned several months ago that Real looked at Laporte as a replacement for Varane. But the asking price was wayyyyyy too high. Personally, I think he's be a great signing from what I've seen and heard bout him.

{Ed018's Note - I recall that as well. I think it was back in January}

3.) 17 Jul 2015 20:23:59
Think Real had possibly asked us to pay his relocation costs, or at least some of the costs as far as I can remember ahah.

Hi Ed002,

Any news on what will be happening stadium wise with the planning permission expiring in 8 weeks?

Many thanks

James13

{Ed002's Note - There is an issue and as such there are no current plans to begin the work on redeveloping Stamford Bridge.}

1.) 07 Feb 2020 17:17:26
Is this issue likely to be a long term one Ed? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean by "long term".}

2.) 07 Feb 2020 23:45:52
We need somewhere to play for like 4 years and as far as I’m aware we’ve struggled to find somewhere for that long.

04 Feb 2020 13:18:12
Dear Ed002,

It appeared that the club took the approach of not buying this January if the top targets were not available, therefore waiting for the summer to make the moves (perhaps similar to how Liverpool waited for Van Dijk and Allison).

I am personally happy with this if it does mean that we go out to secure a couple of premium players in the summer that we need.

Do you expect Chelsea to make one or two premium and expensive signings in the summer?

Many thanks

James13

{Ed002's Note - Well James, players not being available plus an outrageous financial request for one player killed the chances of signing players wanted this January. However, Liverpool did not wait for van Dijk or Allison - one was illegally approached and went on strike to force a move and the other was not first choice.}

1.) 04 Feb 2020 14:16:55
Hmm, I believe what Ed is telling us is that the way to success is through cheating! Let’s get on with it Chels! Seriously though, I hope we identify the targets and (legally! ) convince them of our ambitions and project. I hope that we can still do that as a club (:

2.) 04 Feb 2020 17:57:52
Ed002
Has signing players in January this year been affected by the Euro Championships?
I have read several comments that international players are reluctant to move to new clubs and disrupt there form.
Also that selling clubs are hoping to drive prices up based on good performances at the Championships.
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No, it is of no consequences. January is a time when most sides are mid-season and don't want to sell because of the disruption and because of the lack of replacements being available. I know of seven potential replacements for Jadon Sancho being looked at by Borussia Dortmund but none were available in January - so they are simply not going to sell. I explained that there was no way Lyon were going to let Moussa Dembele leave in January even if circumstances changed in a nother respect that facilitated additional talks. And so it goes.}

3.) 04 Feb 2020 20:16:53
Ed002, not really sure how to word this or if its somthing you even have any knowledge of or not.

what's the general consensus amongst clubs Re the current transfer window system (January and Summer)

Do clubs favour it as it is? can clubs petition fifa/ UEFA to change this or is it solely down to the discretion of the governing body? I may be wrong but did clubs not vote in favour of the current system?

I'm asking in general terms from your experience of course, I don't expect you to know the thoughts of every board across Europe.

{Ed002's Note - The FAs voted for it. Each individual country has latitude for the timing but there are minimum lengths. The clubs in England voted for the changes to the summer window and most regret it. I suspect they will lose the English arrogance to fall back in line with the majority of European sides.}

4.) 04 Feb 2020 21:16:18
Many thanks for clarifying that Ed002.

03 Nov 2019 13:22:21
Hey Ed002,

Are Chelsea interested in resigning Nathan Ake?

Thanks,

James13

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

16 Jul 2016 00:00:50
I would have been happy with Kante for his buy out clause of £20m. The fact that we have apparently paid €36m (closer to £30m) leaves me feeling the deal is a bit expensive. Ed002, I know you say the money is unimportant and it simply confuses people but could you please just give an insight as to why (if the above is roughly true) we have had to pay so much over the release clause? If he wanted to leave and we were willing to pay the release clause why have we paid £10m more? What's the point in the release clause? Many thanks for your time as always. I vaguely remember you saying in the past that a club doesn't have to sell if a release clause is met but I would have thought they would be obliged to sell if the player wanted the move. You would gather that that's why the player had it negotiated into his contract in the first place. A little bit of knowledge as to how this all works would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Forget anything about buyout and release clauses please - it is clearly something that is yet again causing confusion.}

1.) 16 Jul 2016 08:14:24
I think I read somewhere that Leicester only have to accept the highest offer above the sum of £20m. I assume that's why we offered above that sum, to ensure our bid is competitive enough to be accepted reasonably quickly.

2.) 16 Jul 2016 11:23:37
Put it this way I'd rather pay 30 million for Kante than 100 million for Pogba. As good as Pogba is he doesn't dominate the midfield as much as he should. Kante runs it on his own.

09 Jun 2016 08:05:46
Ed002. Thank you again for all of the information you provide. You're so old and wise. Recently you said Asamoah of Juventus was a player Conte asked Chelsea to look to. As you've explained in the past, players are identified and eventually transferred to Chelsea after input from several areas of the club (not just the manager) . I was therefore wondering if you could let us know which players (that you know of) Conte has specifically requested that Chelsea look to. It would be interesting in terms of getting an idea of his vision for the team. Thank you as always.

James13

{Ed002's Note - People are simply trolling the posts now James - I say something is of no relevance and they continue to ask so it is best if I limit what is said. As for naming players Conte asked Chelsea to consider, it will simply lead to people trashing Conte and I don't want.}

1.) 09 Jun 2016 09:58:29
It's a shame really. we have idiots that want to ruin for others.

Thanks for the info your providing tho ed002.

2.) 09 Jun 2016 09:59:43
I think people get too carried away with the need for, what are considered as, ‘marquee’ signings. When Conte was head coach there the biggest international star Juve signed was Carlos Tevez. I think we’re going to see, for those who have read the book or seen the film, a Moneyball approach under Conte. They might not be household names or international superstars breaking transfer records but they will fit Conte’s system, they will fight for him and, from his perspective, they will win for him too. Pogba was just a youth team player who couldn’t get a game for United when he signed him – look at him now - more of that at Chelsea please.

{Ed002's Note - "Moneyball" is very explicitly a baseball-related technique. Conte will not have control over money nor transfers, although he will have an input to transfers. The policy moving forward is something developed by others and being given to Conte for him to work within the framework of.}

Hey Ed002,

I know it takes time and I know people get all crazy when You pass on info that they don't like (acting as if You are making the decisions personaly) but I am really really really fascinated as to how things operate behind the scenes and the Football Model for the Club moving forward.

I read a fantastic write up You had produced on another Clubs page and even though it wasnt related to Chelsea it was a really in depth and informative read.

I and I am sure a lot of the other posters would love something similar in relation to Chelsea. It might give some of the whingers some food for thought aswell (ok, who am I trying to kid. ) but still if You ever have the time I genuinely would love to read it.

Keep up the great work Ed002 and the Posters here.

KTBFFH!

{Ed002's Note - Sadly it is really not worth the grief my such things Blue Nose.}

Thanks for the reply anyway and keep ip the good work :)

6.) 09 Jun 2016 23:35:45
Hey EmilSC,

It was a few months ago now.
If I remember correctly I think it was on the Liverpool Page :)

It was a really great, informative read.

KTBFFH!

7.) 10 Jun 2016 08:36:53
guys, Ed002 did used to supply this info (in depth) to us, however, a small percentage led by a certain Curt (and other deleted abusive posts that we never see) has ruined it for the real longterm fans on here. Our support of the Ed's and chastising the dickheads may eventually result in this site returning to what it was a few years ago. It will take time to regain the Ed's trust, we need to be patient and vigilant!

If it wasn't for his freekicks he would never have gotten this profile. His general play isn't enough. Not quick enough not mobile enough. Just stands out because he can take great freekicks. Chelsea don't buy players because they take great freekicks, though we could do with a great player who can take great freekicks.

But why has is not been confirmed by the club like the Fabregas deal? I'm not trying to annoy you just interested to know the difference between the two situations. Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I am sick of writing the same things over and over again. This is a waste of my time.}

I don't see how Real Madrid would let the best young centre back in the world leave. Real Madrid buy the best players in the world, they don't sell them. Only thing I can think is they are considering selling him to raise funds for purchases. Is this the case Ed002? Would Real Madrid consider selling him? Many thanks.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Whilst they don't want to sell Varane, Real Madrid are aware of Chelsea's interests and are aware the might lose him. As such they have been considering replacements.}

Mihel8 - that's not what I said. I meant if Chelsea remained playing the same formation it would mean Cavani would be in the same situation he is in at PSG (Costa providing the same problem as Ibrahimovich), therefore the change of formation to playing 2 strikers makes logical sense if we are pursuing both players. I can't see it happening. Chelsea have failed to make the correct signing upfront for over 2 years and I don't see why it will suddenly change now and we will sign 2 top strikers. Willian was a good signing and has had a solid season but why £30m + was spent on him and a top striker was not bought still perplexes me. Cavani or Costa or even Higuiain (available for £35m) would have been the difference this season. What we have achieved this season without a striker is incredible and is due to the manager. If the manager had a top striker we'd have been champions with 3/4 games to spare IMO. Oh well these disappointments in the transfer market go way back. Why didn't we buy Torres when we bought Shevchenko? Why didn't we buy Aguero for £38m when we paid for £50m for Torres shortly after? Why did we pay £50m for Torres when we could have had Suarez for £20m? Chelsea have made some great young signings such as Courtios and Hazard but in terms of buying the ready made stars aged 24 + we have got it so wrong in the last 4/5 years. Cech, Terry, Lampard, Ivanovic and co deserve more league titles and European titles for what they have given, they have been let down by a lack of investment in the right player at the other end of the pitch. There's a striking imbalance in the way Chelsea have approached the market at times.

James13

{Ed002's Note - Your view is that money can get anyone you wish. That is simply not the case.}
