Just continuing a previous discussion that some posters were having about our options for signing a striker.

Anyway 50m for Wilson?!? Surely we aren't looking to pay that sort of money for a striker that we will most likely replace in the summer and also given his dodgy knees its a massive risk for an investment. If we do make that alleged offer then that would indicate that the board also feel that they are in a desperate position in terms of strikers otherwise they would never consider such offers. Bournemouth would be silly to reject a 50m offer.

Higuain would have been ideal on a short term basis, however it's very complicated. Milan are paying 16m for the loan and then have to buy for 32m obligatory. Of course Juventus would want a similar deal with us which includes an obligation to buy otherwise they lose out. They would be mad not to accept 48m in total from Milan who have agreed to the condition and instead give us a short term loan and then have Higuain back in their books come the summer. For a starter no one would spend 48m or close to that fee for a 31 year old unless China come calling. This one is very complicated and probably won't happen despite the player and Sarri being desperate to work with each other. Maybe if Milan allowed Higuain to leave on a short term basis and Chelsea agreeing to pay half the loan fee then maybe it works. But obviously I think Milan don't want to buy Higuain outright in the summer.

Vardy won't happen, very unlikely.

Given the fees that are being thrown about for the linked strikers, maybe we should just trigger Icardi's release clause.

Obviously easier said than done. It makes more sense to me to pay close to 90m and buy a striker which covers you a very long time who is prolific than say pay Wilson (50m) and then another maybe another striker for 40-50m in the summer.

Ed2 your the guru when it comes to transfers, any chance of a teaser?

{Ed002's Note - It would be cruel to suggest Icardi might get a League Cup medal this year.}

Lol Ed2. Just being wishful. His probably Madrid bound.

i agree go all out buy icardi. don't see wilson or higuian as the answer icardi could be our aguero. who ever we get il support the decision and player and hope they succeed as i always do.

Pat Nevin suggesting that a lot of the names being mentioned are very likely to be a cover for our real targets.
He thinks we are more likely to be looking at Piatek at Genoa, but then so are Madrid apparently.
Hes the right age profile but always a risk signing a young player from another league obviously as we have discovered with Batman.

Hi all,
I don't post much, but just wanted to say that of all players we have been linked with I would wish we could have landed E. Cavani and L. Paredes (although I have only seen Paredes and Barello on YT so not exactly objective) . With them 2 players we could have had a complete team. The passion of EC is something we are missing upfront. And technical ability and an eye for a goal in the form of Paredes could bring more goals from CM.

As I said above, everything about Barello = youtube but he looks raw and his sliding challenges is a red card waiting to happen. I am not exactly sure where yhe hype comes from if these are best bits. But these are my 2 picks. Who would be yours if you could pick 2 out of the players we are linked to and why. Keep the good footy banter going. Best Regards.

I doubt it Magic, I think Chelsea is nailed on with Barella unless the kid doesn't want to come. What's there to be worried about, we have Sarri, Zola, Jorginho and Zappa who of course will help him settle.

9 years now that I’ve been on this site and it’s the first time that I’ve seen the focus fixed on who’s Positive and who’s negative and to be honest that’s a stupid approach for a banter page.

If I’m being honest off the top off my head G8 and TomB are the only two posters who are positively constructive with their comments while a whole lot other barely make any sense but are quick to call others out as being negative.

Some comments can be “toxic” yes I use this word cause it’s pure drivel but some really good posters who banter and look at things objectively (not always in support with our beloved blues) but objectively nonetheless are called fake fans and negative and for the good of the site this has to stop. It’s a banter page and though I do agree that “ it is my opinion” is not a good argument nor a constructive defense of ones points, some posters do have constructive criticisms and instead of banter everyone turns on them.

We all live Chelsea a bit too much but what can I say it’s hard not too so how about we stick to banter and stop the personal attacks.

Ps. Jorginho had a good game, but I stick to my point against smaller teams who sit back he just doesn’t have what it takes ala Cesc, Busquet Verrati, Pirlo s etc to make that defense splitting pass. Let’s banter.

Agreed about Jorghino against teams who play defensively as he offers nothing creatively which we desperately need from at least one of the three CM players.
Additionally not one of them has a record of scoring regularly which heaps a major pressure on the front three.
Luiz has taken over the reponsibility of playing Cescs role leaving Jorghino to pass the ball 15 yds sideways or back.
The whole balance of the team isn't right at the moment but at least we seem defensively more solid.

Higuain apparently will sign for the club very soon.

Higuain
Barella
Parades

We could be signing all 3.

That is what I call a statement of intent from the club.

The midfield could change drastically. It means Sarri have eyes after all, he's a smart man if we manage to pull off these three deals.

is it a statement of intent? whos barella and parades how many other top clubs are interested in them? higuian is stuffed he's bearly getting a game with ac milan. but he is a goal scorer an im sure sarri will put his arm around gonzalos shoulder an tell him how good he is and get him on a thread mill an hel be flying haha no honestly higuian could be really good and i never heard of the other 2.

Both players play for their respective national teams, first of all. Haven't seen either of them play, but I believe the Eds have been writing, that Barella is seen by many as a potential captain for Italy in the future.

All I've seen from both players has been on YouTube, so it goes without saying that I've only seen the best parts of the players. However, Barella in my eyes seems like a very good box to box midfielder, that can also go out wide, and he seems to make absolutely wonderful passes - from what I've seen, I'm sure he'd had a lot more assists with better team mates! Think he'd be a perfect fit to either the left or right central midfield.

Paredes, on the other hand, seems to be almost the same as Jorginho, from what I've seen. Should be taken in regard, that most of the videos I've seen must've been against Russian teams, so I don't know how he's done against better teams.

A statement? A statement of what exactly? That we have now reverted to signing has beens as a striker.

Magic, a lot of big clubs have been after Barella. If Chelsea can get the deal done in January then it will be good business. His a standout in Italy and is received very very highly there by everyone. His stats for tackling are better than Kovacic's and he has a good eye for a pass. His main asset is his engine, he can run all day making him a perfrct box to box player. He could be a good risk given his age.

Parades I suspect will provide competition for Jorginho given that Fabregas will leave. Also let's not forgot Fabregas is an all time great in football, you can't compare nobody's vision like his so no point comparing the two. Just be thankful we had Fabregas who contributed in 2 titles with us.

thank you emil sc for your comment back. interesting barella does seem like a decent footballer from what iv heard. but my issue would be so would rlc if he was playing for bari or someone of that calibre. so ifms he an improvement on rlc barkley etc. the 1 thing i suppose we have learned is buying young players allows you the window of oppertunity to resell for good money if they go an have a decent loan somewere and can be den sold. ie bakayoko . he didn't work out didn't suit us maybe who knows he looked like christy brown any time i watched him play haha na all jokes aside my point is we can sell again if he doesn't work out.

thank you cfc shak i like hearing peoples insight i muat say ye have me intrigued on barella don't think the other chap will get much time but barella i would say there is definetly a spot for especially if kovacic isn't made permanent in the summer .

09 Jan 2019 19:52:45
Barella, I can understand as he would suit English football being of compact build and aggressive, sometimes too aggressive and he favours his left foot, the downside is he seldom scores which is something we need from midfield. Cannot see why we would be interested in Paredes who has been around the block and only 24 and ends up in the Russian league. Been there before but I would like to see us buy Griezmann in the summer for his goals, engine and tactical awareness.

Magic: Spoil sport. Yet, we would appear to gladly fork out £50m for Callum Wilson or an unfit Higuain if the media are to be believed. To keep Hazard we need a major signing.
