Whilst I don't view him as world class, let's not miss the fact that Meireles was PFA fans player of the year 2011. Sounds crazy but he was, so clearly he was rated by the Liverpool fans (who must have voted a lot!). AVP would know a lot about him from his Portugal years as well, so let's get behind the signing and see what happens

Sort your life out and find some kind of positvity t**t. otherwise support the Gooners.

Thank god someone on here with a less than bleak outlook on this transfer window. The club has spent well I think, and Miereles will at least put himself about, spot a pass and cause problems, I mean he came on the other week and changed the game at Arsenal. Not ideal I guess, but the squad we have now is certainly strong and it has been a positive summer. Thanks so much to Eds 2 and 18 for keeping us in the loop during all the transfer shenanigans.

I think the window has been very successful. Yes we didn't get the playmaker we crave but what more can the club do? Pastore wanted more money, Ganso wants a move to Milan, Moutinho is happy where he is and Modric isn't being allowed to leave. Yes there are many other great playmakers out there like Hamsik and Gotze but I am sure there are answers to why they did not come in. Basically, lets get behind the boys and not get on AVB's back. Keep the Faith.

We're more concerned that we didn't get a replacement in for him rather than the fact that he's gone. In fairness, he's a decent player but a bit lightweight. £12m for him when Arsenal only paid £10m for Arteta is good business for us - just when I thought you might have learned your lesson

I'm a Liverpool fan and I'm not particularly upset. He's a decent player but not creative enough to be an attacking mid and too weak in the tackle to be a defensive mid. Decent link player but not what you lot need imo

Im a liverpool fan also, just gutted we didnt manage to get Sturridge as part of the deal, in all fairness he scored 5 goals in a 6 game run last season an apart from them goals he didnt reall

Oh sorry, I've just woke from a dream, and it's not 2005 it's 2011 and all your main players are now five years too old (or shot) and are too powerful for your teenage manager to replace them. They were leggy last season, anyone could see that - can't believe you havn't done anything about it.

A couple of years back maybe,but now I'm more than happy with the squad we have. Bring on the season and lets see who finishes above who!

I really don't understand why we didn't get someone like Elia to play on the wing so Mata could player in the middle or sign someone like Pjanic/Jovetic. But hey lets give Meireles a chance and see how we go. Playing Man U in 2 games time should give us some idea how Chelsea may go this season with the current squad.

You want a creative midfielder so we sign 1 and u moan get behind the boys instead of moaning. 40mill for modric was ridiculous 12 milkmaid merieles is good business don't forger we brought oriel and mate in, Luiz to come back get Torres firing and we will be flying. He is box to box midfielder. We needed someone to control the tempo of our play, as we play in two speeds slow And slower.

In my opinion, the most disappointing thing about transfer deadline day, is NOT the fact that we signed an average midfielder instead of a top quality one, but the fact that we failed to offload players like Anelka, Kalou etc.

Ill still support these players fully and I also welcome meireles although, I dont really rate him. They still could all turn out to be important players.

I love Chelsea and still have high hopes for this season.

Our transfer policy is crap. We've even given arsenal a helping hand in a player they have no intention of buying permanently. When has anyone been so generous to us, we're most probably paying a chunck of his wages as well. I hope avb isn't judged on trophies this year cause if he is it will be back to square one next summer.

Arsenal will have paid us to take him on loan and will also be paying his wages, so not really a helping hand as he was going to leave anyways.

He will return a year older and a further year into his contract. We need to offload some wages so don't think arsenal would not be aware of this, we most likely approached them. They r the biggest beggars in the business so not for one minute do I believe that they are a paying a loan fee and his wages fully.

Sending Benayoun out on a season long loan to Arsenal to then buy a very similar player in Merieles for a reported £12m on a 4 year contract? He doesnt have the pass or creativity we desperately need in the middle of the field and is not a upgrade over our current squad players? Why does this leave McEachran also.... Thanks

I do not understand how you so called 'Supporters' can have a go at Chelsea for this Transfer Window.

How do you know what is going on behind the scenes?

As Ed002 and Ed018 have mentioned, many efforts have been made to bring in many different players, and just because the majority of these deals haven't come off, you guys are now accusing Chelsea of not trying to solve the problems with the team.

Players like Neymar, Ganso, Pastore, Modric, etc... have been targeted, and unfortunately no deals were able to be agreed, but at least the club realise they have the problem there even if they haven't been able to solve it in this window.

I personally feel that AVB will play Mata in the role behind the striker with Malouda on the left and Sturridge on the right of Torres.

Anzhi and PSG are trying for basicaly anyone they can find on some football manager video game. We do try also. That's given.

This is the results game, and if we do not get them, well... effort doesn't count.

Look - Elia was available for 9 million euros at the age of 24, great speed, decent finishing, plays both wings, an upgrade over Kalou anyday. Not in our interest.

Pjanic goes to Roma for 11 million and we are not even in the picture. Neat.

You count on Mata to be our creative force? Me too. And tell me what's our Plan B if he gets injured? Or are you expecting him to be everpresent for some odd 50 games? Oops, no plan B since Mourinho left. Sad but true.

I mean we could have got a loan deal for Diego if we were interested, but didn't go that route either.

If the club is content with the players we have got - so will I. But if it will cost our bright young manager a post in May whose fault would that be?

The club have obviously picked the players they targeted for certain reasons and I will trust the club that they know what they are doing.

There must be reasons why the others were not targeted. Especially things like why has Pjanic gone to Roma who aren't even in the Champions League?!

Also we did not have a 'creative' midfielder when we won the league so Mata can only be an improvement on what we already had when we won the league.

Ok Utd and City have improved significantly, but I still feel Chelsea with a mixture of experience and youth will challenge on all fronts this season.

We won the league not because we were great, but because United were poor. And that was 15 months ago. Also Lamps and Drogba were healthy.

Has anyone gotten younger and into a better shape all of a sudden.

It is pointless to judge the decision making of front office, we can't change them. We live by them. What irritates me is that their failures ends up in new manager turning up at Cobham.

So please, staying positive doesn't make you a "better fan". I go by AVB's words. He needed to add to midfield - didn't get one. OK. And how do you judge our dealings with expiring contracts?

We are basically giving Yossi away to Arsenal, Bosingwa's, Anelka's and Kalou's contracts are expiring at the end of the season. Letting them go for free? Nice

Oh you are very wrong. I am not accusing for not trying. All i am saying that for whatever effort you make 0 if you don't get the result - you are left with what you've got. If the front office and management acknowledges the problems, identifies the targets and gets nothing - you are left with the same aging squad, with same problems of breaking down stubborn defences. Generally our problems have just gotten older.

Ed002: I highly appreciate your efforts on this site, but at the same time can't share your view unto some topics. I might not know some info you possess, therefor i judge from my knowledge.

Bruce Buck comes out with this marquee signing notion at almost every transfer window now, but unless Mata is a marquee signing, then i don't really see one.

AVB says he has a squad to challenge Barcelona. I love our manager, he brims with confidence, but i'm 33 years old also and i don't bite it one bit.

I have watched Barca play Villareal with 1 nominal defender and nine "forwards". They are in a league of their own.

I'm trying as much as i can to get exited when we buy the likes of Zhirkov and Benayoun, Bosingwa and the likes of them, for the club just to ship them out at first possibility. Please understand that there is also reasons to not be happy over our transfer activities and not just crap talk from someone who trats unability to sign Messis and Ronaldos as failure. {Ed002's Note - Efforts were made to sign Neymar, Sanchez and Pastore. I doubt Buck should be blamed for them not coming off. AVB will say lots of things that may or may not be true - I have warned of this before. Take everything with a pinch of salt. Benayoun came in to fill out the midfield and then got injured - assume he has gone. Zhrkov got injured and his international place was at risk. Bosingwa is a good player but there will be a different long term solution.}

ED002: I do not blame Buck for anything. He can't force them to come, neither can he change British climate, tax rates, etc.

I'm just sad we are after the top players and then in the final round they turn to be playing elsewhere and i'm left here with hours left till deadline trying to get excited about a slim chance of some belgian kid possibly coming of whom i've never heard before this window. Oh and we are about to loan him out.

I feel we lack fluidity not only on the pitch, but at the long term planning also. We have built a magnificent team of present, but unfortunately couldn't win the CL at it's peak. He's said to be back in training so expect him to be back in the next few weeks.

He has been training for a couple of days and is going off with the Brazilian team soon, he should be OK for the next game, i think AVB is hoping some time with the international team will finish rehabilitation, and he may get some mins against Ghana.

He is with brazil right now. he should be fit now or avb wouldn't have allowed him to go.

I can't honestly understand how David has been allowed to go back on International Duty. He has yet to represent Chelsea this season through an injury picked up while doing exactly this, and we have suffered for it. Hi ED! The whole transfer policy of Chelsea is signing young players and chasing Modric for 3 months. The young players are good for future. But how about the present? In two weeks we are going to face Man United at Old Trafford. Do you think that with such a game like with Norwich, West Brom we have any chances at Old Trafford? Don't forget we signed 2 internationals at Christmas also Ramires has come good. We have tried on a number of others. Sneijder wants to much and i guess would mean the other senior players want an increase if he came to us. I think we needed a play maker more than anything and I'm sure AVB realises this but Levy has stuck his foot down and been backed into his own corner by his initial statement when he said modric would not be sold.

Lot of rumours over the United page that Modric is going there. SAF has been ignoring all bids for Berbatov, but supposedly a few came through today including Spurs. Berbatov to be used in a switch + cash deal for Modric. Seems fairly likely, or at least just as likely as Chelsea. What do you guys think?
