Ed, are we really interested in Ivan Perisic? I think that'd be a stupid signing, and don't really see him getting a lot of playing time - especially not with Cuadrado possibly coming back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has not made any offer for Perisic - and Inter won't want to sell.}

I can't see us signing a wide player, other than a left back, this summer.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure that there will be a wide player signed.}

Ed, the club's been trying to play a 4-2-3-1 for a few managers now and signed players seemingly to slot into that philosophy. Do you know if Conte's being expected to do likewise or is he being allowed to change that?

I remember you saying a long time ago the opportunity to be involved in a change of strategy was an incentive being offered to prospective managers.

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in where the players stand at kick off.}

Which wide players are we interested in Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Cuadrado may return. Griezmann. Florenzi, Cerny, Jese, Bernardeschi, Ousmane Dembele, El Ghazi and Zivkovic have all been looked at.}

Are you not a football fan ed? Its quite sad in my eyes that someone with so much info cares so little. Debating team selections is tedious but also one of the joys of the beautiful game.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have absolutely zero interest in team selections not all of the nonsense about formations. Folks are very often misled about formations as they constantly need to adapt during a match. I recall a discussion once where it was decided that the only time formations could be considered fixed was at kick off. I know this guy at Clairefontaine who for maybe 20 years has been studying if and how different formations are applied. He advocates and teaches that certain sides (he cites Barcelona, Chelsea, Ajax and Kashima Antlers) that have achieved varying levels of success have actually now reverted to something between no formation at all and the Metodo approach and that strict formations should be a thing of the past. He wants to see intelligent players that can adapt as the game changes and this is what is being taught to the French kids who are seen as the future of the game in France. The reality is that whilst defending, even these sides will adopt a 3, 4 or 5 at the back with one or two in front. However, going forward these clubs look to 6 or 7 players being entirely flexible in the positions and space they fill - the premise being if they are intelligent players they will naturally work as a unit and make themselves available to constantly open up new options. This is what I see Rodgers aiming at, which means he needs to get players in that can be flexible and can adapt - as such, it will be a move away from a player simply being placed "wide left" or whatever. Hopefully this makes some sense.}

Good read ed! You should write a book :)

Do you have anywhere I could look to learn more about football and more of what you're talking about? Just to improve my football knowledge, if you catch my drift?

Appreciated mate.

{Ed002's Note - I would not know where to advise you to look. You could try asking Ed01 on teh Football page.}
