Any truth in the Cavani on loan for the rest of the season?

I think he would be a decent option. Our youngsters have talent, but they are becoming a little stuck and to have a player like Cavani training with them day in and day out will sharpen them up. He has tonnes of experience and he is still pretty good on the pitch.

I’d say a loan is unlikely given his contract is up in the summer. More likely PSG would want to sell him and get some cash.

Is it 2012 and 2013 again? Half expecting the Hulk links to return. Anyone know what Van Der Wiel is doing these days?

Ed said a couple of posts down Cavani wants Atletico and they're working on a deal so i wouldn't look much into it. Things can change obviously and i'd definitely take him but i don't expect anything to happen.

You know who I’d love? Totally unrealistic and I know it won’t happen at all. But talking about older strikers for a few years I would love Suarez. Absolutely hate the bloke but if he brings some aggression to the team and teaches some of the nasty side of the game to Tammy I think that would be huge. I know he won’t be leaving anytime soon but would make me both happy and angry at the same time haha.

I wonder why he would want to sign for Athletico where they have Morata and Costa already.
I know Costa has been injured but he is back in training and should be available in a few weeks.
The most interesting challenge is Chelsea if he is up for being a senior and influential example for Tammy.

I prefer we try harder for Moussa Dembele than go for Cavani whom I am sure will be more expensive in some ways. I read Lyon is looking to bring in some attackers, so I feel it's better we stay on the Dembele deal even if I guess Lyon might want more than what we have offered.

The Cavani that I know isn't 'a one chance- one goal striker' which is what I feel we need (Cavani misses many and scores a few) . He is good aerially as do Tammy Abraham too. Truth is I don't see him offering us more than what Tammy Abraham is offering us.

Even if we sign Cavani, I feel he will need good supply to score which I think we lack at the moment besides the crosses that come from Reece James. Our number 10 position needs some beefing up esp in the aspect of creativity and assisting. Mason Mount has a lot to learn not just taking up good goal scoring positions.

We won't agree to give Willian a 2-year contract but we're going to buy a 33-year old? Absolute tosh.

Lampard on Cavani: "He's an experienced player but so are many other players out there! We are young as a squad so the idea of bringing in experience is not something I'm looking away from. Sometimes the younger players need a bit of help. "

I think it is obvious that our young players need help. 33 may not be too old for some players. Some players play well into their 30's. I think long-term it is all about the youth. In the short-term I am quite amenable to the idea of some experienced players like Cavani. It would be like having an extra coach and a good role model for the squad.

Although Cavani primarily plays as a centre forward, he is capable of playing in several offensive positions, and has also been deployed as a supporting striker or as a winger.

so we play 4-2-3-1

Willian----Cavani----Pulisic
----------Tammy

Also, if we get 17 corners, as we did against Arsenal then I am certain Cavani will help us score from at least one of them.

Being reported that Eddie Newton may well be leaving to join an overseas club as assistant manager.

Loved him as a player and I'm my opinion, very unlucky not to get a few England caps.

Also loved him as an assistant to Robbie D. Will always be welcome back at the Bridge.

Its a concern as he was by far the most experienced coach at the club.
I guess he wasnt part of the core team and decided to move on to new opportunities.
Good luck Eddie.

Looks like it might be Cavani we're trying to sign this window as back up for Tammy.

Obviously this seems a bit like the Higuain situation last January and we all know how that worked out. But you can't question Cavani's scoring record wherever he's been, just because age isn't on his side doesn't mean he couldn't do a decent job for us. Plus he's got the know how and experience we're lacking up front currently.

Any truth to the Cavini links Ed's or is it a load of rubbish?

Interesting to read on Van Ginkel that the club would like to keep him. Do they still believe he can get back to the level of playing in the Premier League and in Europe?

I've got a lot of respect for the guy. He's been one of the unluckiest players in recent times with all his injuries. The future looked so bright for him when he started all those years ago at Chelsea under Jose. And yet with all his rotten injury luck he just keeps on working to get back. Kudos to him and I wish him nothing but the best.

{Ed002's Note - He is training and they are considering the way forward contract wise.}

Thanks Ed that's a lot of players potentially leaving
Is Ross in party mode I take it some people never learn
Shame to see a lot of them going as there was high hopes but I suppose it happens at every club and level
I remember piazon arriving I though he was going to be the next Messi how wrong was I.

That's happened quite a lot of times Gianfranco, at least where I've thought of some of the players that we've bought that they would be absolute super stars. Kenedy, Nathan and MvG for instance. Shame how none of these players worked out. I think that Kenedy had something really special, but it didn't exactly help him that some of our managers for some reason insisted on using him as a left back. I actually thought before this season, that he would stay with us and become a very nice option off the bench. Guess I was wrong :)
Ed02 you have mentioned a few times that Gallagher might be part of Chelsea's squad next season. Do you know if that is still the plan? Or will it be assessed after this season and based on Swansea's results? :) I hope you understand what I mean :)

Ed02 you said that RLC might never be able to play a full match again could you shed some light on what went wrong with his surgery and subsequent recovery.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is unrelated to his recent issues. He has had a long term back problem.}

20 Jan 2020 17:53:45
Blulion, for as long as I can remember RLC's been having problems staying fit for an extended stretch. As Ed said he's had ongoing back problems ever since he was like 16 or 17 I think.

It's a real shame as when he's fit there are few midfielders as good as he is in attack. His combination of technique and strength is quite rare, and I'm fairly confident he would've been one of the best CMs in world football if not for his back problems. I just hope he can get fit enough to be a solid rotation player for us.
Our last season under Sarri changed when Ruben began starting matches. His impact on our attacking play was remarkable. Such a shame he had to suffer about the worst injury a player can suffer.
