Chelsea will make an improved £26million offer for Everton defender John Stones after the Blues' initial bid of £20m was rejected.

Stones will be offered the No 6 shirt and Chelsea secretary David Barnard will meet with Everton officials as the champions look to broker a deal for the 21-year-old England international.

Everton, though, will demand a fee in excess of £30m should Stones indicate a willingness to move to Stamford Bridge - but are determined not to sell one of their most important assets

There's not much comparison besides the country they're fe and their early prominence. Jones was a blood and thunder style of defender which he remains now. A lot of the issues jones has run into stem from his overly aggressive play leading to injury and prevent him from long stretches in the first team to cement a place. Stones is very much an elegant centrehalf.

Would love to have Stones but can't see it happening - he's just got into the England team and the Euros are next summer so I can't imagine him coming to us without a guaranteed starting place (which he ain't going to get).

Yeah seen that on ssn.

However I think that's a lot of money to reject. so I believe we prob didn't bid tht much as I think that's not much for everton to turn down.

Would be a good signing. Good solid player!

He's not worth much more than that. Presumably a long term Terry replacement which is good especially as he's English. I'm surprised as well that Everton have rejected such a high amount

I've never been very impressed with his defending to be honest. He's certainly a good prospect and still young, so Everton I'd imagine would demand a lot more money (with him being HG as well). That said, he's not worth much more than 20 million IMO. There are better alternatives for cb (Otamendi for one would be a great coup, Umtiti is very talented as well etc).

In no means am I saying he's better than a terry and cahill because he ain't but he has good states against them last year and especially considering Terry was the best defender in the prem last year.

The 21-year-old's defensive statistics compare favourably to Chelsea centre-backs John Terry and Gary Cahill. Last term, Stones averaged 1.43 tackles, 1.09 blocks and 1.52 interceptions per game - beating the Chelsea duo in all three departments

In a market where sterling is going for 49m then stones is worth 30m. Everton aren't going to accept 20m for a player they don't want to sell.
