Agree and lack of really good partner in midfield - with vision and legs! - has also let us down. Bakayoko may or may not come good but was largely worse than dreadful his season save a couple of games.

JBS, I’m striggling to see how this was a must win game and without winning the Newcastle game is pretty much barring a miracle, a pointless game so why rest players tonight for that game. Give them time off in week, but we lack so much quality it’s frightening, Zappa, pedro, cesc offered nothing except sideways slow football,

Sideways all the time, short passes to a team mate five yards away in front of packed defences, it is just not working and we were guilty of it last year. That game was made for Fabregas, no defensive duties of note, acres of space and time on the ball and what happened, we went absolutely nowhere. We spend £30m+ on Drinkwater and is he really that bad we cannot play him more than seven or eight times, what has happened to Palmieri? Barkley is supposedly fit but nothing. Is it the "Mourinho syndrome"

Devastated, do the hard work and then can’t beat Huddersfield at home. Completely out of ideas up front when the opposition get players behind the ball every time. Hazard should be able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and make goals but stick 2 men on him and he’s gone. So frustrating having so much possession and not getting goals and results.

Bit of the bat crazy because recent results gave us probably foolish hope - even if we'd won tonight we would still have been outsiders for top 4 place given Spurs and LFC superior goal difference and very winnable last games at home (v Leicester and Brighton) . while we would have had to win away at Newcastle.

Willian not the major problem - reliable striker this season has been as has fa too frequent bad defending which again lost us points tonight. Costa has not yet been adequately replaced. We needed/ need someone with his type of bullying strength combined with skill to frighten and overcome defences. Hugely disappointing season whatever happens in FA cup final.
