I would like to pose a question to up you chaps.

We are likely to use the 4231 formation next season which for me is the best line up for our squad, but the question is about the 2 deep lying midfielders. In my opinion we have to play Ramires In one of those two places but it's the other position that I'm pondering about. Do we play a defensive midfielder in there such as Mikel or Romeu, or do we play a deep lying playmaker in there such as Modric or Moutinho. In my opinion we play a defensive midfielder in there as I believe the 4 forward players + Ramires are sufficient and that we don't need a Modric type player in there. So I would like to see your opinion on whether it's a Defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker in that slot in the two?

What do you think Chaps?

Yann m'vila all the way for me he has the size and athleticism for the prem plus is a great defensive mid and a reallygood short range passer, a more polished and physically gifted romeu in my opinion, plus rennes will sell this summer

Agree1 Disagree0

I personally think we need a midfield enforcer, someone who is disciplined enough to sit in front of our back four.he'll provide the cover needed if we get caught by a counter attack or one of our fullbacks gets caught out after going forward.for me right now it would be either mikel/romeu.lamps can provide backup for rami.

Mikel/Romeu. Rami/Lamps/Meireles

aL

Agree1 Disagree1

I reckon that it will be a defensive midfielder. Lampard and Ramires will be out box to box players which leaves one position in the middle. At the moment i thiink that place will be filled by Mikel with Romeu as back up, especially if RdM takes over. However, if this move for Fellani continues to gather pace i have no idea what will happen. I cant se him being a box to box player ASWELL as lamps and rami. This only leaves the DM position. Will the manager have 3 players here in Oriol Mikel and Fellani? Will Oriol go on loan or Mikel moved on? Only time will tell...

CG

Agree0 Disagree1

I think we need a defensive mid in there and i think mikel is fully capable to fill that role. he had an excellent end of the season.

cali

Agree0 Disagree1

I agree, i think we need some physicality in the middle or we could struggle to gain control of matches in the middle of the park. It is always possible if creativity is lacking for someone like Mata or Hazard to drop a bit.

Agree0 Disagree0

If mireles and Essien leave, then I think there will be a place to be filled for another DM who has the ability to distribute the ball quickly. Fellanini is a good possiblity as he has it all in his locker, but £20m is a big price tag. Strootman, M'Villa and Moutinhio are all good alternatives. Would like to see Romeuo and Josh go out on loan to gain first team experience, ready for the following year.

In Euro 2012 I have't liked the look of Van Der Wiel. Seems to have the same defensive deficiencies as Bosingwa with less attacking drive, although admittedly this was based on one performance and will have to see more to make an informed judgement.

Moutinho has made some decent passes to the pretty boy

Joao Moutinho looks good, wouldn't be a bad thing if transfer for him went through....

Hass

Believable1 Unbelievable1

He gets pushed of the ball to much. And a lot of loose passes.

The dutch should have started with VDV instead of De Jong and Klass instead of Affelay. They came on way too late in a must win game. They might struggle to get out of the group. It will be interesting.

Dnt know how many of u saw the Ned vs Denmark game, but I thought Sneider played an awesum game. Some of his through balls & crosses were Outstanding particularly the one with his outer right foot to Huntelaar..I think that if we wnt a creative midfielder then he is the man..

Well after watching the Denmark, Netherland game I realised 3 things:
1. Sneijder is still as good as he was 2 seasons ago.
2.VDW is overated and shouldn't be bought .
3. Any team that signs Van Persie should also sign Walcott and Alex Song as well, cause he only seems to score when they pass to him.

ELI

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Agree, think eriksen looked handy as well

Amazing, i came on here to say how poor VDW is playing, and how the views of a lot of people seem to be vindicated in that he is more or less similar to Bossy, and it seems everyone has had the same idea! Would be disappointed if we sign him (although i have always thought that there are better options).

Believable2 Unbelievable0

What are you on about, most people on here put him in cfc's starting 11 for next season, probably before seeing him play.
In my opinion we don't need a right back if ivanovic is staying. We will have more than enough going forward with the attacking players coming in.
I want my defenders to defend first and foremost.
Also ivanovic is more than capable of getting forward.
Let one of the youngsters cover we he's injured.
Cfcmatt.

Agree2 Disagree1

This is why azipicueta is always in my dream team. For the other poster, branislav has already said if he is to play right back all the time he will think about his future. He doesn't mind covering, but wants to play centre back. BLUEBOY1

Agree3 Disagree0

Bran doesn't want to play at RB, why don't people understand this! He is OK with being a back up for that but not starting there game in game out, he sees himself as a CB.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think ivanovic has said he wants to stay, if this is true then he must be happy to play right back as we've already got 3 better centre backs than him.
I know I'd rather play right back for cfc than sit on the bench or play centre back for a lesser team.
Cfcmatt.

VDW is s**t (to use curt terminology). Need to forget he can play for us. Must try and get Azpi

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I have to say your right. People have to realise that just cause he plays well in the dutch league doesn't mean VDW is our standard. Azpilicueta I haven't seen play so I can't judge him(really wouldn't mind him though what I've heard seems decent). So I would say we either go for someone like Richards who were sure can perform in the EPL or stick with Bran ,Hutch and Kane.

ELI

Agree1 Disagree1

But the thing is, what do we really know about azpilicueta? How many of us have actually seen him play? He could be just like vdw, hope he isn't, but you just never know

Devon

Agree0 Disagree1

At the same time, what I've heard about VdW has been decent. You can't judge someone on one bad game (a lot of Holland played badly), then say you want another player you haven't seen at all, surely? You don't get linked with big teams if you haven't had a good *season* - I'm sure the scouts that have watched him x amount of times would say he is better than tonight's performance, as are most of the Dutch team. I would happily stick with Bran, but he doesn't want to be there and I personally don't think Hutch is quite up to it yet as a 20+ game a season back up (a matter of opinion). I still think we need a RB, so we'll have to see how the Euro's unfold along with transfers.

Put it this way azipuelta can pass and cross a ball. french league is stronger than the dutch. good enough 4 me BLUEBOY1

First time I have watched VDW and I dont see any difference in him and bosingwa. We must offer Sturridge to pusuade city to part with Richards

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more I rate Richards vdw don't look any better than what we have.

Agree3 Disagree0

I'd rather play Todd Kane.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Jun 2012 15:00:51
Hope if RDM stays on, he sticks with 4 2 3 2. This really worked well for us last year. If he does and we lose Essien maluoda and mireles, that he gets in either Fellanini or Strootman as they're box to box players. Combined with Lampard, Rami and Mikel our centre mid will be just as scary as the 3 in front of them.

Lunchbox {Ed002's Note - I somehow doubt 4-2-3-2 will be the preferred option.}

cech; cole cahill luiz ivan; mikel fellaini; mata hazard hulk; torres

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Id prefer cole at left back to be honest and ivan at right back :D

wheres terry? wheres lamps ??

never realised fellaini played for us

curt

Agree3 Disagree3

That's what the original post says isn't it? Cole left back and Ivan right.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yet again no Ramires!!

SHED END

Agree7 Disagree0

This is another example of how underrated ramires is, even amongst us chelsea fans he still gets forgotten. He's a beast, how scary would he be if he was essien or toure's size

aL

Agree4 Disagree0

I would suggest mate that if anybody forgets about Ramires then they cant be proper Chelsea fans

SHED END

Agree5 Disagree0

As I stated yesterday, I firmly believe that Ramires is one of the top central midfielders in the world, so I'd definitely agree that he should be in our team.

To have Fellani over Rami is ludicrous.

Roweycfc

Agree2 Disagree0

Yea fellaini much better than rami deluded!

I would play ramires fellaini, not fellaini mikel

Ramires has gotta be in the team!

just a random question but what is everyones favourite goal of last season

mine would have to be rami against barca or drogba against munich (cant really count drogbas penalty though otherwise that would be up there)

eds would like to know your favourite goal too

curt

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I have to admit rail meireles against benfica floated my boat BLUEBOY1

Agree2 Disagree0

Definatly gota agree meireles for me too and the fact benfica gave him grief made it even better, but for rami to do that knowing he was out of the final and to help us there was something special too

Carefree

Agree1 Disagree0

My most cheered goal was drogbas header but ramires was probably the best

Chackers97

Agree2 Disagree0

Drogbas penalty against Bayern Muncih. Never celebrated so much in my life. Second to that, Drogbas header against Bayern Munich.

OsgoodIsKing

Agree1 Disagree0

Either drogbas header in the final or matas volley against united

Lunchbox

Agree1 Disagree0

Drogba vs barca 1st leg

trueblue012

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata's goal v spuds semi final

Agree4 Disagree0

I would say drogba header first followed by Torres goal against barca. Not terribly impressive but him scoring to put us past barca and who scored was nice.

Tk

Agree0 Disagree0

Torres goal vs barca, not only did it crush them but also was a superb finish it's harder than you think running the length of the pitch with just the keeper to beat.

Agree1 Disagree0

Torres vs Barca for me too, I don't really know why, but I think it made me the happiest (other than the Drog penalty)

Dzagorev , Shirokov , Arshavin and Pauvlechenko looked good yesterday. The Russians looked good and have a good experienced team.It will be interesting to see how far they progress and they do have good quality players in key positions.Lewandoski looked good for the poles. What do you guys think about Dzagorev, plays a bit like Lampard, who incidentally is his favorite player? In my opinion he will be good addition to the midfield if Mireles or Essien goes.
roan

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Was gonna say the same thing about Dzagoev. Plays a lot like Lamps (not just judging by the game yesterday, watched him a few times before then). He scores a lot of goals, has a hammer as a right foot, can pick a pass, maybe not physically as strong as Lamps but he covers that up with his pace and quick feet. Would be a great addition to the team we a setting up. His contract expires this winter. So if not this summer looks good for a january buy don't you guys think.
P.S off point but he also looks a little like Lamps and Messi. :D
ELI

Agree3 Disagree0

I've been a fan of Alan dzagoev for a while but always been in my head that it is the Russian league. So really looking forward to the euros see how he performs against the bigger teams. We should go for him though. BLUEBOY1

Agree2 Disagree0

Didnt see the whole game but if he plays a bit like lamps im happy lol
