Zouma and Christensen is not a CB partnership that works. I hope to see Rudiger and Tomori against Lille. That has the potential to be the best partnership we have this season. Tomori and Ampadu moving forward.

Well said J. I really hope to see Rudi and Tomori vs Lille.

Defo Rudiger x Tomori. Personally think CB should be our main priority come January before the likes of Sancho and Chilwell. Koulibaly for me and I’d like to see us go after Dembele from Lyon with hopefully Giroud and Batshuayi moving on along with Pedro.

08 Dec 2019 08:44:04
I think Zouma, Christensen and Tomori are all fine as players. But I don't think any combo of the three makes for a good partnership.

I'd want to see Rudiger alongside one of them (as I say I think Tomori would be best) before thinking CB was our priority.

Not a fan of Ake in a back four, left side of a back three he'd be decent enough - but not a back four.

I'd like to see James, Rudiger, Tomori and Emerson start Vs Lille.

Can i just say gents id love for some posters to take an hour after a loss before posting after games we lose. my opinion
Probably the most exciting season iv ever had as a chelsea fan bar the first mourinho season.
I accepted at the start of the season this year is going to be inconsistant and yet its gone so well were actually disgusted when we lose to west ham or a terrible everton side etc. overall this team had probably achieved a lot more than what most of us could of expected and lampard as a manager has done extremely well with what he's done with the young players and the buzz he's brought into this team but not only the team the fans have brought into it and we love it.
The biggest positive for me without getting to carried away is outside the obvious of mount tammy james tomori etc all excelling we have seen kovacic turn into an absoloutely top top midfielder. his dribbling and calmness on the ball is sensational. him an kante are top class .
areas to improve. i think we all agree a left back is essential and a top class dominant leader of a cb to install calmness and leadership at the back. maybe a right midfielder to challenge and eventually take willys spot. willian has had a really positive season for me but has dipped in a handfull of games also.
i think alonso days are numbered fantastic servant along with azpi who i think once we aquire or if we aquire a top left back hel be a squad player in my opinion . kepa in all his confidence and errors in my opinion hel either stay as is an never improve or his confidence will eventually turn him into a top keeper. he can be worked on in my opinion to become better decision wise and communication wise etc
we seem to lack a leader in defence all season we concede embarrassing goals at times all 3 goals today the marking and defending was of a really bad standard an i won't name and slate players its not right . all in all great season hopefully the ban lifted can help lamps improve the backline especially although we mite have to wait til summer for a big name hopefuly big tony be back soon hope u all enjoy my post and are as positive an happy as me this season with the boys. the most important thing iv felt is the connection between the fans the club and management etc is back that was missing for a few years and it seems to be back thanks to lamps and these amazing young talented boys who we all wanted to see get there chance for so long.

You are absolutely right, KFL. We really should take an hour or two before writing. I know myself that I didn't yesterday. The moment Kepa had passed it into Walcott's feet and Everton had scored, I myself made a post that I probably shouldn't have, but the frustration got the upper hand on me. No doubt that I shouldn't have made a post in the few seconds after that goal - nothing productive was ever going to come out of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2019 08:55:14
yeah i understand that emil it is frustrating buts its better to put the phone and talk about it an hour later because in the heat of the moment you are never going to be positive i guess . hope your enjoying the season as much as me so far and im excited to see if frank dips into the transfer budget.
i see mario pasalic is having a really good season with atlanta he mite be 1 we could finally cash in on next season as i feel wev too many midfielders and sam galagher is on 💥💥 with blackburn.

IMO good considered posts KFL and Emil.

Football is all about emotions so it’s always ok with me when people put forward constructive opinions and yes, sometimes they seem bizzare but that’s ok with me.

I always take the view before the season starts that we are going to win the league. For me, that is the time to dream.

I try NOT to judge players on a few games performance. Look at last season, about this time last year Jorginho’s performances dropped off. He came back strong and IMO was one of our better performers last season. I would like to think the same is going to happen this season.

what do you make of reece james so far tom seems like he's going to have a huge future at our club and already seems to be stamping down the rb spot as his own.

08 Dec 2019 13:37:14
I think Reece James will be like virtually every young player who steps up to the Premiership in a blaze of expectation. He will burn brightly for a while and then take a step backwards. The test is, if that does happen, does he knuckle down and come again!

Let’s hope he is an exception. He has enormous talent.

What's the obsession with Nathan ake? On here and social media, his a good defender, not brilliant but not terrible, doesn't concentrate and hardly rock solid for Bournemouth, £40m player who would only improve depth rather than quality in the squad, would be a sideways step and £40 of budget gone,

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I thinks its for depth. His better than the depth we have I suppose.

07 Dec 2019 20:24:09
Exactly, good player but in the same bracket as Christensen/ Zouma. Not an improvement on what we have I think. Needs to be a game changer like Koulibaly.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 21:02:01
matt martin im not sure he's going to improve much either but if it is a transfer that's going to happen let's be positive rather than negative about it.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 22:20:18
£40m of our transfer budget to not improve though. A player we sold, that £40 could buy dembele or grimaldo, I find it unbelievable that we haven’t learnt our lessons ( if even true ) with the Bakyoko drinkwater deals, players who will be amongst the squad but not give any real competition, rudiger back almost so that’s 4 CBS, why spend £40m on one who’ll be behind 3/ 4 names we have, I’m just saying I don’t think our transfer business in recent years has been great and these kids are good enough to be amongst it so only players bought in should be too top class, quality over quantity,

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2019 08:56:20
to be fair matt martin every chelsea fan thought bakayoko was going to be a midfield destroyer so u can't use thay example. id go more to the easy picks like zapacosta drinkwater barkley etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2019 10:41:09
To be fair I did think that too about Bakyoko but yeah any squad fillers, a player who we know won’t be a starter but good squad player, we need serious competition, players looking over there shoulders because the man behind him is good enough to take his spot,

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Dec 2019 18:00:52

I've not posted on here in a long time (opened a new account as I can't remember my email address or password) .

But anyway today's performance was poor to say the least.

In my opinion we need a new dominant CB to partner Tomori, Tomori has the pace to recover situations that Zouma etc lack. Who that CB we buy could be I've honestly no idea, but we need someone physically dominant, especially aerially. Maybe Koulibaly?

Our midfield is okay, but once again we lack someone with a physical presence. Think to the days of Ballack, Essien etc. We need someone who can do a bit of everything physically and also who is capable of driving forward. Who that player could be I'm not too sure once again.

And last but not least, we could have 100 corners a game and I still wouldn't expect us to score from one. Our set piece delivery is awful to say the least. The amount of corners we get and absolutely waste is such a let off to our opponents.

But all in all we can't complain with how our season is going so far, currently sitting in the top 4 and hopefully through to the knockout stages in the Champions League come midweek. Any of us would have taken that at this stage of the season. Wobbles were always expected this season, let's hopefully get a few new faces in during January and cement that top 4 spot and push as far in Europe as possible, because as we know anything is possible on European nights.

C'mon Chelsea!

07 Dec 2019 18:00:27
I agree on Koulibaly mate but I’d like to see Rudiger and Tomori together first see how they do. Christensen should be sold for a new CB IMO.

Agree on midfield too hopefully Loftus-Cheek helps when he returns which can’t be soon enough. Kovacic has to always stay on current form he is absolutely unreal.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 18:05:43
Physical player, capable of driving perfect? One name: Ruben Loftus Cheek.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 18:32:40
Hopefully when Loftus Cheek gets back to fitness he can stay healthy, he had so many niggly problems before his bad injury. If he can stay fit, like you guys mentioned he would be that perfect physical midfield play to drive forward!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not so sure he will ever be able to play all of more than the occasional full match. He has a back problem that there appears right no to be no permanent fix for.}

07 Dec 2019 18:34:26
Personally we need a very good CB but who is that player?

For me, Rudiger gets into the starting 11 immediately on his return. Rudiger is very vocal and maybe we need that right now and he is someone that can lead our defence right now.

We have seen plenty of mistakes from Zouma, AC and Tomori. Too many in my opinion. It's clear that Lampard is getting frustrated himself because he has changed his stance from using soft words to the media when we make errors and is now getting firmer. Today he branded the defensive mistakes 'ridiculous'. And you are right in that Tomori's injection of pace makes him recover situations more often than not and unlike Zouma and AC.

I think in midfield we are fine with Kova, Jorginho, Kante, Mount and when RLC returns.

We need a few players in January to help us achieve our Top 4 target. So far it remains on track despite the turbulence of recent times.

07 Dec 2019 14:36:58
Kovacic and Kante dominant, 70% possession, yet we lose 3-1 through defensive blunders and lack of potency in front of goal against a far from great Everton side. Not sure about the Zouma-Christiansen partnership, Zouma looking a bit like back to early season self today (nervous back at Goodison? ) but what do others think?

The still more positive than expected so far but still roller-coaster season continues. Everton benefiting from Duncan Ferguson energy boost, a pity for us Silva not still in charge.

Big game on Tuesday night that I'll be attending so hope we are more accurate at the back and up front!

Lampard - We didn’t create enough chances and we didn’t want to shoot enough, we dribble into their box and we try and beat someone else. We need to shoot more.

It's been a very poor half of football from us. I would have expected our players to be ready for this kind of press, pressure and energy from Everton.

We have practically created nothing meaningful which is of concern. Most players have been below par so far. Tomori should gave started over AC for me. AC and Zouma is not a combination that works.

Bring on Jorginho and let's see if we can start creating chances. We need some creativity.

Something needs to happen because at the moment we are heading for another defeat, it will be our 3rd defeat in 4 games which is slightly concerning.

07 Dec 2019 14:39:51
I wonder who you will blame now given that Jorginho didn't play at all? This is where your strength lies I suppose but it has been made more difficult today Or will you blame Jorginho for sitting on the bench?

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 14:39:27
We had plenty of chances/ half chances but didn't take them. Kovacic and Kante gave us dominance in possession, Pulicic, Mount and Abrahams often threatening, but defensive errors and lack of ruthlessness in final third plus Everton new manager (or new temp manager) boost did for us.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed0666's Note - And the fact you’re keeper thinks he’s a ball playing center half

07 Dec 2019 14:47:01
Anyway, my views are that it was a very poor performance, it was very lethargic from the kick off.

It was always going to be a risk especially when you start the same 11 that played against Villa midweek. These players have had 2.5 days worth of rest since than and clearly the tiredness and lack of energy was on show because Everton beat us to most 1st and 2nd balls in most aspects. We lost most 50/ 50 situations which was so frustrating to see. Did our players not expect an Everton resurgence today?, the performance would suggest they expected a light contest.

Jorginho/ Kovacic pivot was brilliant and results that went in our favour is evidence for it. It is a shame if Jorginho is tired.

AC and Zouma are a very suspect combination. Lamps surely has to realise that by now. It was a comedy errors at one point. I mean how poor were the 2nd and 3rd everton goals - shocked.

Kepa will take slack for the pass but the defending afterwards is what worries me the most.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Dec 2019 14:53:13
Kepa last two games have been very good and I think Kepa is generally very good with ball at his feet.

Today he has made a mistake but I also think Zouma was asleep.

I don't think Jorginho would have dealt well with the high/ aggressive press of Everton today, wouldn't have been the right game for him.

But don't write him off.

Someone has to pick a pass to create for the the creater - that's where Jorginho excels, that's why we're, at times, slow without him.

Now that the ban has been officially lifted here are the changes I'd like to see between now and the start of next season.

Goalkeepers - no changes required, unless Caballero moves on when we'll need experienced cover behind Kepa. Maybe Ben Foster if Watford get relegated.

Center Backs - I like our CB group. Rudiger, Tomori, Zouma, Christensen, Ampadu and Guehi. We're pretty loaded, no need for changes.

Right Backs - James is the future, but Azpilicueta is excellent, and experienced, cover. If the later is happy with that role then no changes needed here.

Left Backs - Neither Alonso or Emerson are good enough, Chilwell is first choice as a new signing but would be difficult. Digne might be a good alternative. Maatsen should also be integrated.

Center Midfield - Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho, Mount, Loftus-Cheek, Gilmour and Barkley. We're loaded here and still have Gallagher to come in, Barkley can leave with no need for a new signing.

Right Wing - Pedro can't cope with the EPL pace for more than 25mins. Willian has been good this season, but the time has come to move on and look forward. Sancho would be amazing, would be a bidding war; but we should have the money.

Left Wing - Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi are both excellent and young. Both can play either side too.

Striker - Abraham is locked into the 9 shirt at the moment, and hopefully for a long time to come. Batshuayi offers a different alternative, but we could find better, maybe Lautaro Martinez from Inter. As a backup option to replace Giroud? I think we'll end up signing Fedor Chalev.
