Have a hunch we will be in for a shock in the week regarding a signing.

Is the shock that although the world and his dog can see we badly need another defender that we go all out for another forward? As if so, we have identical feelings :/.

Can you imagine if it was griezmann and koulibaly. That would be crazy but obviously unlikely. A man can dream ay.

I think we will sign a top CB and a fullback.

I would love to see Juan Mata back at Chelsea. I reckon we could get him back for £15m. He loves Chelsea and he gives you everything. He's still only 28.

I too would love to see mata back but I think we desperately need a more dynamic midfielder like naingollan for example.

I'd like to see Ricardo Rodriguez for left back so Azpilicueta can go back to RB. Obviously need a CB, big Koulibaly would be grand, and a striker - not keen on Lukaku if I'm honest.

Can never see Mata coming back. Doesn't work hard enough for a Jose team let alone an Conte team!

Great player and still love the little magician!

Chelsea Nick: Great call with Rodriguez who I have mentioned before but somehow he never seems to interest anyone and he is a superb full back. If Conte can get our defence sorted out I would take Mata over Fabregas any day; if people think Mata doesn't work hard enough what does it say about Fabregas.

Rodriguez imo is just a slightly more mature Rahman but better at set pieces. Still just as defensively suspect as Rahman.

I don't want to complain but it is beyond mental at this point that the club have not sourced a quality centre half.

As we enter this week, things are not looking great on this front and I really hope we don't end up settling for cover. We need a top quality centre half ready to come in immediately.

Thanks to some numpty, Ed002 has no interest in sharing information, in what is becoming an occurrence in every window.

We are left relying on the other Eds, who provide what they can and it is appreciated.

I don't know what the plans are and it is impossible to second guess, especially considering some of the utterly bizarre decisions made in recruitment for this position.

From the options left, it has to be Koulibaly, Mustafi or Stones and the club have to move quickly because I suspect City will try and tie up Stones this week providing Everton get a replacement. Mustafi is interesting Arsenal and Koulibaly may or may not agree an extension providing Napoli stump up and can not get a replacement.

It has to be time to piss or get off the Pot on this one.8 days left to the start of the season, 83 days since Leicester at home and still nothing.

It is not being greedy or wanting too much. If the money is there, pay up and make a decision for the benefit of the long term future of the club.

Take the funds allocated to pursue Lukaku and invest the money in a position which such an investment is needed, And it is needed desperately at this point. The can cannot be kicked any further down the road. I won't be holding my breath though.

Interestingly Roma have signed Juan Jesus, Fazio and Thomas vermarlen recently, I wonder would they be preparing to let manolas go? That would be 5 CB's once Rudiger is fit? There was previous interest by Chelsea in him it I remember correctly?

It's not like they haven't been trying though. They obviously had 2 main targets in Rudgier, who unfortunately got a nasty injury and also Koulibaly and we all know what the Napoli chairman is like.! I'm sure the squad needs to be trimmed before we have some more coming in. 3 weeks left of Window. Plenty of time.

Well I don't particularly care anymore to be honest. We are what we are as a club and hopefully we can improve on last year but the more you care, the more you have to lose.

If we sign a potentially good centre half who is easy to obtain, has no other suitors and, most importantly, is cheap, all well and good. If not, we will have to find another way. I am beyond caring at this point.

Things are not the way they used to be under the first ten to twelve years under Roman and I am not sure the drive to be the best club in the country is there anymore to be honest but I am more than comfortable being the club we are. I am just adjusting my expectations because I don't think it is fair to call us a club who is expected to challenge for major honours anymore given the competition around us.

We are, essentially, Dr Frankenstein and clubs like City, and PSG are the monster we have helped create and who we can longer compete with. It is what it is.

Loved that game however I'm still not convinced Oscar is good enough. I never really liked him but after his recent performances and how everyone is saying good things about him I decided to give him another chance but although he scored he didn't do much, he missed an easy chance and gave the ball away a few times. What are your opinions on him.

I don't think Oscar has a position, he's not a centre midfielder, don't think he scores or assists enough for a top class number 10, I've seen him play live for Brazil at the bridge, against Russia and he was a right winger, I seen him play deeper for Brazil in his earlier days also, jack of all trades master of none, on the other hand if you play possesion football with short sharp passing, fabreagas is world class.

Our defence is still a worry. They are not playing with any authority.

07 Aug 2016 19:08:04
Yes the defence is still a great concern, I assume conte was hoping someone else would be in by now, but Cahill and Terry together and an inexperienced full back or ivanovic, it all sounds too familiar. Hope Zouma comes back sooner or later and we get the new centre back we need very quickly. Just hope we can scrape by until the defence is sorted.

Did anyone else notice that Willian seems to have beefed up over the summer? Either he has been hitting the weights or the pies!

I really don't hope we'll be playing with the same players once the season starts. Iva should never set foot on the right back again, and Oscar and Matic also seems like a bad desposition. Hope Antonio and The players prove me wrong, though.

Aina, Chalobah and Batshuayi over Ivanovic, Matic and Oscar for me.

Agreed. I'm starting to feel a bit frustrated that our defence hasn't been significantly strengtened yet.
