I'm by no means saying we should do this, but as a subject of discussion, what does everyone make of the idea of using Willian in central midfield - in Fabregas' position?

He's doesn't score many goals, and won't need to playing in that position and he has the quick movement and decent enough passing to help in forward transitions plus he's got a good work rate.

What do you guys make of it?

His positional awareness can't be any worse than ramires'.

I think it is worth a try as I certainly think he should not be playing in any of the other positions as attacking wise he is very poor. I agree he has a great work ethic so don't see why we wouldn't try?

Most Definetely not. A midfeild 3 , maybe. A midfeild 2? No! Just becuase he works hard doesn't mean he has the tactical nouse nor positional awareness required for that role

Kenedy reminds me of The striker Adriano who played for inter Milan, for 2/3 years he was arguably the best striker in Europe at the time, he had great uperbody strength and a powerful runner with a jack hammer of a left foot, Kenedy's running style and direct driving forward remind me a lot of him, if I'm right there was something to do with a car crash and Adriano?, and after he turned to the bottle then retired early mid to late 20s?, can't really remember though, such a shame he could have been 1 of the best for a decade.

I saw Adriano a couple of times on my travels some ten years ago or so playing for Inter Milan. Different build to Kenedy, he was thick set and really a striker whereas Kenedy is more lithe and looks the type to come from deep. Adriano was very good in the air, something we could do with up front and as you say a stunning left foot. He is still only in his 30's but not living the life left its mark and patience ran out with nearly every club he joined.

I saw Adriano for inter against Aston villa at villa park at what was around his peak, don't think he played particularly well but he was a great player. That game in particular was great for seeing stars of world football, Luis Figo, Zlatan, Adriano, Chivu and others all played as well as our very own Gary Cahill

I know everyone is excited to see Kenedy get some game time, but it should be noted he is still a kid and expectations should be realistic. He has played 30 minutes, against tired legs that were sitting back, allowing us space and countering. I think he looked the business, but his run out against Palace won't be the norm. The last thing I'd want to see, which unfortunately I fully expect, is he has a poor game, or a poor run of games, and most on here (not all) write him off and call for a new toy.

Also on Willian, while I agree he has no end product, I'm surprised people seem so upset about that. It was pointed out by Ed002 when we bought him, that some within the club were worried by that. I remember after the Citeh games on here, that most were saying he was our only bright spot, because he ran around a lot and put in a shift. I think Jose needs to use him better, much like Fab, and supporters should cut him some slack. Play him when we are sitting back and countering against the more aggressive teams, and bench him when we plan on being the hammer, rather than the nail.

Your right about tired legs, and sitting back opposition.
But I'm tired of Chelsea wasting young players. All they need is to play. Not abroad, not at reading or Crewe. They need to be given a run in our team, not all of them of course. But the ones with huge potential. For me instead of signing stones, use Thomas kalas, instead of mikel try ake or loft us cheek. This year ain't gunna be a good one going by first few games. Start getting them ready.

I know what you mean mate, and I agree that young players need to play to get better. I'm sure they also think that the higher level you compete against will gain you the better results during development, although you do also need to factor in game time. If a player isn't playing they won't gain as much experience as if they were. And you have to rememeber that we are using promising youth sales to help in making the club self sufficient and we have a huge amount of very good talent at its disposal, all at different levels. Most increasing in value as they go, hopefully.

What if Kalas stayed and the defence wasn't a such a mess for the start of the season? I'm sure that's what was expected, and then he may have struggled for minutes. It must've come as a surprise that our defence, that was considered one of the most solid in the league, although we had ageing members, would drastically drop off. We loaned out Kalas early in the window, to get ample preseason time to gel with the Middlesborough boys and cement a spot to get plenty of minutes.

It wasn't a bad loan if he wasn't expected to play much at the time, it was just unfortunate in hindsight. The club secured a stop gap and some more promising youth, cheaply, and will hopefully begin our challenge. As hard as it is to watch what's considered potential world class talent not get opportunities, our loan system is by far one of the best in the world mate.

I'm sure if RLC, whose widely considered our best academy developed players along with Boga, Baker and Ake, I'd assume, shows he belongs in the Prem, other academy players will follow. He took the first step against Palace, and I'm sure will get more chances as we progress. Hopefully in the next few games. The onus is on him to perform though. As it is on all the youth. If he doesn't, its hard to play him through a run of missed opportunities. Especially at a club like ours, with the expectations it has.

'm sure the same will be for Kenedy, If he shows his value, he will get minutes. Him amd RLC have undeniable quality. But I for one am very pleased with the loan system we have. It would be much harder, to even considered, a player of Pogbas price as viable in the market if we didn't have the system we do. We made the right call on Lukaku and I trust we will on others.

IF THE PLAYER IS GOOD ENOUGH he plays, end of. doesn't matter about age whatsoever. By good enouth, that means more than just ability, it means personality, mental strength, physicality etc, etc. The club, Jose included, know who are close to being starters and that's why Traore came back from Vitesse, Kenedy didn't go on loan, Rubens and Zouma stayed with the squad rather than go on loan. They are ready now. The loanees now have a chance to convince the club they are due a place next season as Traore did last season. The likes of Charley Musunda also get the chance to prove themselves in the academy as Rubens did. The club obviously don't see the likes of Kalas and Christenson being as ready as say, Stones of Everton, otherwise they would of stayed and we wouldn't of bid serious money on a player of similar age. Of the 33 or so on loan I would be very surprised if more than 2/3 actually make it to our first team, that doesn't make the rest poor players, just not quite at the absolute elite level where we now operate. Most will be sold at a profit and it's quite possible 2/3 more will find development at another club at a level just below the very elite and then step up similar to what happened with Matic when we let him leave for Benfica before returning.
