To all who r comfortable wit d pre-season performances, was that ur expectatn b4 d games? Exenorating Torres, talking abt him not getting service...a lot has been spent on players that'll 'serve' him, n it's still not working. If Hazard's not playing on d wings, he's simply not working hard enuf 4 d team, unlike Mata. Plus I can understand why RA was reluctant in d appointmt of RDM. The play hasn't changed. The team that played Brighton was not Wigan or QPR; it was Chelsea's first team that is star-studded. Come on!

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Didn't understand a word of that!

I think our narrow play that has been apparant for a while is seriously not helped by the fact that if we play with wingers, they are often put on the side of the pitch where they seem expected to cut inside e.g. Sturridge on the right and today, we saw Hazard on the left when he cleary prefers to use his right foot. If we want to play with genuine width why don't we play wingers so they can take full backs on and cross from the byline when they will be on their stronger foot?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Cross to who though? torres aint gona win headers against big centre backs

Agree1 Disagree2

Cross are not only meant for headers ,you know. You can put good crosses on the ground also.

roan

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes but thats not the type of attacking play chelsea want to play, if so they wouldave bought out and out wingers which they havnt done, they want to play barca style football which is not crossing balls into the box

Can understand the pressure DS23 was under, but you never stutter in a penalty shoot-out, it basically tells the keeper where it's going. Just ask Schweinsteiger how it worked out for him. Feel sorry for the lad, but should bury it from 18 yards as the top quality striker some people think he is.
CFCFOREVER!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Harsh lesson for Sturridge, his arrogance didn't pay off for him this time!

How come whenever anyone suggest we sign a striker or have an opinion about a certain player that person is either being slaughtered by the so called fans or regarded as a person? However, the overall performance of the team was very poor. Most Pple ain't complaining or worried about the result but performance.

Kadrini

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Our performance was lazy, yes we kept the ball for the majority of the match but football is about putting the ball in the net which we don't seem to realise at the moment. too neat and tidy at the back with all the passing all pre-season, too casual for me even in pre-season

But fear not as we as a club always pull it out the bag when we need to and i am confident we will be putting Wigan to the sword in 2 weeks time

Before any person starts - it was a penalty! These things happen! I'd like to see you take a pressure pen!

Surewould

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Ive always said never give a left footed player a penalty, Danny's mistake was the stutter shot, should have picked his spot and boot his boot through the ball with power.

Agree5 Disagree1

Yes but we all know Sturridge is a cocky lad and will try to be the star man. Looks pretty stupid now!

Agree4 Disagree1

These are professional played, they should be able to cope with a pressurised situation. Sturridge is a striker it is his job to score, there are no excuses for missing from 11 yards unless there is an exceptional save made by the goalkeeper and the same goes for Aaron Ramsey who missed his penalty earlier in the game. Disappointing but i suppose at least we will have our full squad back soon, well except Oscar that is.

Read a few match reports and seeing everyone slating Torres? What can he do with Mikel, Lampard (Who I love as a player but isn't dynamic anymore) Mereiles (Says it all) passing it across and Ramires being wasted as a winger. I think that won't last though, Mata will be back soon remember guys, then he can join the wings. Anyone who actually saw the match can I have an idea how FT9 played. And before you bother Pinky or any of the anti-FT9 fans want to give their two-penny's worth, don't bother, I'm looking for useful information, not plastered bias drivel not worth reading.

I see Aguero hasn't scored all Pre-Season, do you see City fans baying for his head? It's Pre-Season! Fitness matches!
I don't care if we lose 3-1 to Brighton or if we win 6-5, it's irrelevant! Did it qualify for anything meaningful? No.
Give FT9 a break, would you score with Mereilles and Mikel behind you and our best piece of creativy bar Mata rammed up the wing.
Consider that.
CFCFOREVER!

Agree7 Disagree1

Aguero has scored actually but I agree with what your saying. MB

Agree5 Disagree0

From my viewing I thought it was similar to last year where Torres can't get a touch at the beginning so he starts coming deep to get touches but the midfield was cramped enough because we had no width with hazard and rami playing as wings. Brighton pretty much parked the bus so there was no space in the attacking third. He had zero chance to succeed in todays game and for people to slate him is rediculous.

Tk

Agree7 Disagree0

Ur all right I feel sorry for Torres he's completely different then drogs, he needs decent through balls. Our midfield is gunna suck and let us down next year. I would start playing mceachran he won't do any worse than meireles and Mikel. And I am serious! BLUEBOY1

Agree5 Disagree0

We need players with the ability to stretch teams. Marin has got that ability but we need another winger who is equally capable of doing that.
We are too predictable to play against at the minute so i say get moses in or hulk (at a reasonable price if that can be done!) ramires needs to be in the middle to replace meireles who i hope leaves

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree with what your saying to an extent CFCFOREVER, but winning is a habit and it would be good to get into this habit during preseason, especially seeing as RDM's record since his contract signing is 1 win -1 draw - 3 defeats, not really impressive considering all teams were weaker than us on paper, Brighton even played a weakened side whereas we had many regular starters in our team.

No! I can't believe it! We Lost to a championship side. How dare we loose a pre season game ?! RDM has no clue . Its gonna be a hard season, I say we sack him now. and also Torres is to blame for all this. Why didn't he dribble all the defenders and score just like Messi those. Why? oh! why? haven't we bought Cavani?!

just joking......

Now seriously, I didn't watch the game due to some unforeseen circumstances, but with what I've read on here we lost and didn't play too well , till I watch the game I would reserve my comments. Oh guys ITS ONLY PRESEASON so relax.

P.S. Good to see the banter is back.

Disappointing performance against Brighton but its all about the fitness lets not forget. Do you really think they would beat us in the middle of the season cup game. Take the positives, Torres done well, lampard still getting into scoring positions and mikel done well when he came on. I think our problems came from the three Centre mids that are all two similar for me and only one of them should play at a time. Too many times do they get the ball and play it backwards. Ramires is wasted out on RW,his bursts of pace against defending players is not there when he's playing out of the midfield. Hazard for me has looked excellent when playing more central, didn't have the best of games but has clearly stated his best position is CAM. Torres made some good runs and looks sharp. I would like too see some new players come in as it's always exciting to sign players with a couple going out. But I'm confident we have a strong squad and will again challenge on all fronts. I would like to see this squad start the season:
Cech
Ivanovic. Cahill. Terry. Cole
Ramires. Oscar
Sturridge. Hazard. Mata
Torres

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Torres done well

wot game was u watching!

pinky

Agree1 Disagree9

He can't do well Pinky if he has awful service!

Agree6 Disagree0

To be honest, that is credit to Brighton's defence. They gave us no room to pass our way in to their box.

Agree2 Disagree1

We could have done so much dryer to create room.

Agree0 Disagree0

No we congested our selves by lamps and mikel! holding the ball centre passing sideways running towards eachother. we llook no different & that unfortunately is the management fault

Agree0 Disagree0

When our full backs attack they need to be extremely wide to spread opponents defence and therefore create space.

Agree0 Disagree0

The style of play will change however as we didn't have Mata, Oscar, Marin today and adding any of those players makes our team a lot more creative

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Aug 2012 17:08:25
Why do we even bother with the defensive midfield role? Both Essien and Mikel are very poor. Still missing a striker and everything has gone quiet which isnt a good sign, we should have had one in the squad for pre season so now when one does join it will be harder for them to settle in. Why do we find it so hard to attack teams and create chances? We cant even make the simplest of passes for players to run onto, our wingers get into good space and end up playing the ball back to defence, too negative and for Brighton to break down our defence so easy is a big worry, Prem teams will rip us apart if we play like that.

Ive backed and defended torres for the past 18 months i know its pre season but ive lost my patience with him now,i know your all guna say what can he do with out the service!how about go and get the ball your self insted of standing behind defenders! How can any 1 pass to him when hes got a defender between him and the ball he looked livley today but looked useless aswell, cut our losses with him its really not worth it anymore,we need to finalise cesar and make a striker a #1 target to sign preferably this week,

Agree6 Disagree0

Personally- meirelles, terry, mikel, lampard, essien are all to slow at moving forward with the ball! stop being biased towards some players.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he's dropping deep to get on the ball you slate him for not being in attacking positions. When he's in attacking positions you slate him for not getting involved. He can't win with some.....

Seems like David Luiz and maybe Hazard are the only players that care about scoring.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

04 Aug 2012 16:49:51
Essien looked very good
Torres looked sharp but had zero help
Rami was wasted on the wing again
Miereles didn't bring anything to the game and should have cut his losses for the second goal rather than make something out of nothing
Hazard looked exciting but in a 433 he was a left winger today but he played as a number 10 in a free role which congested our midfielder and took away width from the team
There was a lot of space between the midfield and the defense
Mikel in all fairness looked better today
Classic frank today, perfect timing for the goal but didn't do a whole lot else
Schoolboy error for the third not playing to the whistle. Unacceptable.
I hope Robbie has a magic switch somewhere at cobham to make these boys play because theyve been crap the entire preseason.

Love some responses to this post....

Why do we buy all these attacking players with quick interchanging and passes which create chances for Torres and then one week before a cup game we play our old side with no creativity?

TM

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Who did u expect to play? Mata doesnt come back till tuesday, marins taken a knock and was ruled out of the game oscar playing for brazil, who would u have picked?
Carefree

Agree3 Disagree1

I still think we need the creativity to come from deep, Essien, Lampard, Mikel, Merieles....Hmmm doesn't fill me with much hope.

Agree3 Disagree0

Well, to be fair, with Marin injured, De Bruyne gone on loan, Oscar and Mata still with Olympic squads/on holiday, we don't have many of the quick attacking players you were talking about available at the moment.

I'dve liked to've seen Piazon playing wide left, seeing as Hazard seemed to spend more time on the right anyway, with Rami in the middle. I think it'dve done the kid loads of good to start a game, even pre-season.

Roweycfc

Agree2 Disagree0

Same old same old, slow boring predictable build up allowing 11 men to get behind the ball, then no imagination or flair to try and create an opening for an effort on goal.why spend fortunes on flair players and not use them for that purpose.essien has turned in to the new mikel and only slows the game down.
sorry for the rant but we were just awful today and need to sort it out before next week.
norfolk blue {Ed018's Note - There is something a bit off when Lampard, Essien, and Mikel are on the pitch at the same time. It all becomes slow motion and forget about Meireles, he's rubbish. I'm done venting}

Agree3 Disagree0

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I didn't realize that Marin had a knock. But would like to see more fluidity with the midfielders inter changing more. With Essien, Lampard and Mikel on the pitch, theres not much chance of quick one touch football or chances for Torres.

TM

Agree5 Disagree0

Also feel that with Hazard on the left he is being a bit wasted as we all know from watching the pre season games that hes much more dangerous in the middle and makes things happen. Also are we expected to stay with 4-3-3 formation or the 4-2-3-1 formation that I'd like us to try and play.

awful performance from us so far, we are far to slow at putting the final ball in, we deffo need a good right winger.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

And another top name striker. This is the Torres we're going to get. Nothing
Will change from last season. We're in trouble.

Agree1 Disagree8

Torres has done nothing wrong wtf

Agree6 Disagree0

Are you even watching the game? Torres has had nothing except a half chance on the volley. He was arguably our hardest working player, quick feet and turns, upped the tempo well.

What more is he supposed to have done? Because I hate to break it to you, but no striker is good enough to take on 8 9 men sitting behind the ball with no support or options.

While we're at it, we should sign a new goalkeeper, because this is the Cech we're going to get, letting in goals against Brighton?!

Clueless post!

Watching the Brighton match & I am not able to figure out what the hell is wrong with us. We do not seem to make any clear cut chances. And how can we be caught on counter attacks like this from a team like Brighton. Now do we need Central defenders also..!

Always Blue

Believable1 Unbelievable1

I know what you mean. I know it's pre-season, but this is ludicrous! We've got no width, no pace to our attacks and next to no penetration. I know we've gone years with the worlds best target man, but we need to quickly realise we haven't got him anymore, because IF we attack this badly in premier league matches, we're not going to score.

Roweycfc

I'm not sure where our team is in regards with playing style. We want to play fast attacking football but we refuse to press in the midfield much less have a high defensive line. When defending we looked like we were playing a 451 and against weaker competition we need to press them into mistakes which won't happen when we let them play with the ball. I understand sitting deep and counter attacking against bigger teams that will attack you but at least half the teams in the prem will sit ten deep and we will have to break them down somehow.

I wish our defenders would track back like they actually care. The second today and the goal against Milan and the mls all stars were scored by a player from behind with no marker which makes me wonder where the defender is until I see the replay and they're jogging back. That's absolutely unacceptable.
