I heard the Ed's said we persuaded Martinez as our last player to sign.

At the very least I could say were we really serious about signing Martinez, because after signing Schurrle and MVG we had a lot of time to make sure the signing of Martinez happened - It took pretty while before even the Willian and Etoo scenario came into play.
Can we really afford him; now that he has sign a new contract and all of us have a pretty good idea what amount Porto would sell him in the near future?

Either ways I know this current squad is an upgrade over last seasons squad, Willian can back Hazard well, Bruyne can Back Oscar well, Schurrle can back Mata well - With Josh we know our defend is not going to lick goals like last season, So I guess we should only hope our strikers find their scoring boot. UP the BLUE'S.

I wouldn't wanna pay £40/£50 for a 26yr old on a 5yr contract, pay him £100k a week because he won't have any resale value when he's 30/31 and his contract is up. Falcao and Cavani are world class this guy isn't and for that reason I don't think the transfer makes sense.

If we fans didn't support Chelsea & we were in Lukaku shoes, would you want to persist with a team, that keeps showing you the door, even though your a better striker than any of the current crop?
As a club we have treated this young man, with no respect at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Disagree completely, he is an amazing young striker, although does he really pose the threat that other Champions league winnings sides have in there striker role? No. Regardless of our other options, he is not quite mature and experienced enough to see through 30-50 highly competitive games in 1 season. He has not been shown the door, in fact we have been educated enough to let him get game time on loan, rather than sit on the bench waiting for 2-3 years wasting his potential. Yes he had a great pre-season, but against what, if any competition? I'am very excited for his future at Chelsea, and feel we have done our up most to progress his career with out pushing him into an early football grave. i.e Owen, Robinho, Jeffers, Adu etc etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku is not a mature striker. He maybe the most talented of the three but he is the least experienced. And experience is what makes you win top games. For me the bottleneck is Torres which he seems to prevent anybody decent coming in because of his wages. We need to offload him next summer for certain so that a striker that will take us to the next level comes in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mourinho knows how to get the best out of eto, and he is Torres after witnessing the super cup. So lukaku would have been 3 rd choice. Jose has been clever lukaku will play a second season in the Bpl gaining a whole seasons experience. So why chelsea fans are moaning is beyond me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats now 3 years on loan
, not 2. It wouldn't surprise me if he walked away from Chelsea next year.
Lets face it, Torres, Ba & Eto'o are not going to frighten any top team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop being so negative JNS, he won't leave

Agree0 Disagree0

Remind me JNS - he spent last year on loan, and will be spending this year with Everton.

Where was his third year on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku is good but is not yet at the level to lead the line at one of the world's top clubs.

Eto may well turn out to be a good 1 year deal, let's hope so.

Ba and Torres will be gone next year.

We put too many eggs in the Rooney basket, this led us to a last minute panic, all be it not as bad as Utd.

Agree0 Disagree0

He spent his first season at Chelsea on the bench, not on loan. He was clearly unhappy with the situation and was quoted as saying he wasted a year of his career. He is the future of the club but right now it is better for him to go out and further develop as a player than spend a season getting frustrated at Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh I knew that Blue25, was trying to make a point to JNS. Would our bench be better experience than Evertons starting XI? Not in my opinion. Lukaku has said himself he wanted another season on loan if he wasn't going to be first choice for us. He has his head screwed on, he is a Chelsea fan, and when the time is right he will lead our line.

Just wondering what people think of our strike force. Letting Lukaku go was a shocking decision & making liversmall & everton stronger for nothing was a stupid mistake, that we seem to make every year. My opinion.
Eto'o, well past it.
Ba, not good enough for our standard.
Torres, still lacks confidence.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stop avoiding the issue. Torres lacks everything. His best move would be to go back to Athletico Madrid

What are people's opinions of our rivals squads now the transfer window as closed. Arsenal even with ozil will continue to be arsenal, good one moment rubbish the next, spurs have signed some very good players (not exceptional) and will get stronger as the season progresses and may finish in top 4. Man U, if they keep vidic Rooney and Rvp fit and playing well will be near the top and they don't have the fergie factor and can't see them being in top two. Man city are hard to call, not been impressed with them in last two games, and with new manager may do better in champions league this time. If kompany keeps fit and the new players start to show something then could be our biggest challengers. If I had to put a bet on a team to challenge for the top it would be Liverpool, especially if Suarez comes back and stays out of trouble. They look strong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arsenal: Maybe fourth, fifth if Liverpool keep improving
ManU: Flop under Moyes. Just not fearful enough. But in the top four
ManC: Too much quality to make any one team to work for me.
Spurs: Not jellying at the moment. Another Europa finish this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

This season’s league would be called “ESCAPE FROM SOBIBO” because only the strongest would survive.

I guess it would be a 6 way battle between Almighty Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree, none of them look big contenders for our well rounded SQUAD. Although I would put Arsenal, Tottenham and Man City above Liverpool. My guess would be 2nd Man City, 3rd Tottenham, 4th Arsenal, 5th Liverpool/Man Utd. I feel Manchester United where very lucky to even finish in the top 3 let alone 1st last season, RVP and Fergie took them there alone.

I don't know why people are feeling so downhearted, Yeah have to admit wasn't exactly what I was hoping for but let's look at the positive's Lukaku has gone to a team that play counter attacking football and create many chances he is buy far better then anything else they have so should get plenty of minutes.

Let's not forget Willian, Van Ginkel, Scurrle, Schwarzer, Eto has well has bringing De Bryne back into the fold. we kept hold of Mata and Luiz, yes we all wanted a Cavani or a Falcao But they went and if Lewandoski Didn't want to come and Rooney heart wasn't in it surely it's better to wait until the right guy come's along personally I'm glad the club didn't panic buy a striker. in January I'm sure the club will fill that void if its needed but for now let's hope Eto can still find the back of the net.

We have the best Manager in the world An owner who backs his ambitions with the money he puts in, an academy full of some really promising youngsters, and we have one of the most talented midfields in Europe.

The Future is bright, We can win the league!

Just a quick Thanks to ED002 and ED018 for there repeated patience and time in answering our questions the most of us do appreciate it.

Ed002 Just out of pure curiosity would you be able to reveal which forward it was we attempted to buy on the final day? {Ed002's Note - Martinez.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I disagree. The failure to land a top class striker will cost us the title and the CL. Very short sighted move. It is the only thing missing from our team. Suarez type of player or even Martinez would make the difference. Shame.

I understand frustration over Lukaku but TSO has obviously got faith in Eto'o to do the job for a year, Lukaku will get more playing time this year and hopefully come bacj even more of a beast!
Ba not going is frustrating however, though I'm hopeful this will be addressed in January, and I pray our current firepower can keep us in with a shout in all comps until then.
Don't forget Schurrle can fit in if required.

What was our thinking in transfer window? Eds or others on this site could you help me understand here? Presumably Etoo a one year holding tactic until we get someone younger/better (now) in? But why Willian when our prioirities were striker, dm, cb (and if another attacking midfielder needed, Ozil far better than Willian)? Why Lukaku out on loan? And Moses strengthening Liverpool? Presumably this is about lightening wage load and reducing size of squad and keeping people from getting frustrated with lack of playing time? Also about, giving Lukaku more experience. But trouble is that he looked like the one striker we have who could pose real physical challenge/presence in box for opposing defenders. So am a bit puzzled.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The etoo situation is clear, he's a top finisher, he comes here for a year, lukaku goes on loan for a year and plays first team football with out fail. Next year he comes back etoo leaves, plenty of time to build. It's all for the future, it's good thing. As for not signing a centre back, luiz, terry, Cahill, and ivanovic. Why the hell would we need a centre back? Especially considering we have some great young talent coming through the next couple of years, challobah, kalas, omeruo, ake. So we never actually needed a cb. And hopefully we won't in the near future. For central midfield. We have ramires, lampard, van ginkel, Mikel, Essien. We are playing a 4231 so only two out of five will start. It's plenty especially as Oscar and de bruyne can play here aswell. Also challobah and mceachran haven't been sent on loan yet. We obviously needed a top class striker. But from what I saw of Torres so far under Jose, I really think hell get best out of him. As to with eto. {Ed002's Note - Chelsea were priced out of the CB they wanted.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mangala wasn't it? I just didn't see the need personally.

Was quite a poor end to the transfer window, but it could have been worse if Mata had left (I don't think it was ever really a possibility but it had me slightly worried). I'm not happy with Lukaku leaving on loan as I thought he was more than ready to take up the main striker's role. I can't see the trio of Eto'o, Torres and Ba being enough for the season, hopefully I'm proved wrong. Do you know if there is a recall in January option for Lukaku ed?

What happens now with regards to Ba - thought he was surplus to our non-EU player limit?

Thanks for the insight

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ba excepted loan or transfer to, CL club but Chelsea decided not to strengthen Arsenal {Ed002's Note - It is a little bit more complicated than that and nothing to do with not strengthening Arsenal. There had been an agreement reached with another side but their insurers would not agree to provide cover without a medical with their approved staff present. It does however leave an issue the club did not expect. They'll tough it out through to January when I suspect we will see another striker arrive and Ba leave.}

Thank you Ed.

Not happy with transfer window - we don't have good enough strike power to win premier league or champions league - may be fa cup or capital one cup
Do you agree eds? {Ed018's Note - certainly didn't address the forward issue especially with Lukaku going out on loan. Lets hope Eto'o still has something left in him cause the other 2 don't}

If Lukaku has actually gone on loan and we kept Ba, that is absolutely infuriating! Someone at the club needs their head checking.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. Seems mad, as Lukaku offers so much more than rest in terms of physical presence, target for holding up the ball to allow counter attack etc.

Absolutely furious with lukaku Out on loan

It seems Torres' goal vs bayern and lukaku penalty miss may ruin the rest of our season

I prey that I will be proved wrong
