I'd love him to get a chance and get thru this horrid season, the players arent earning their pay check m8

I think we should give him until the end of the season and if results don't improve then theres really no choice. I know SAF took four years at man u before he got a trophy but I'm sure he was doing a lot better than AVB. And I have to say Birmingham have got to be licking their lips

Hate to say it, but I am starting to think AVB was not ready for this job. Shame, but he is looking like he has bitten off more than he can chew. Jose return is what we all crave really! Saturdays had happy endings back then.
I cant remember our football being this shocking.

Below is a summary of an interview seen in the US by a Chelsea Fan which makes interesting reading I think.

The Duncan Castle Interview

Those of us on this side of the Atlantic get much of our soccer new fix from the Fox Soccer channel and its related affiliates.

Yesterday I listened to an interview one of the channel hosts had with a journalist called Duncan Castle. I usually don't rehearse material from media sources on this site as they are generally often exaggerated, many times unfounded and not uncommonly total fabrications and lies, but this is one sports journalist I respect.

Every time he has given an interview discussing ongoing or developing issues that I remember, he has turned out to be deadly accurate. He discussed for nearly 10 minutes information he reportedly received from someone within SW6 on the discussions that occurred between Roman and AVB following the first leg of our Napoli match and as I listened I really felt I was finally hearing the truth.

I mention the highlights of his discussion here while acknowledging that yes this may be entirely untrue but my gut tells me this is factual.

1 - It appears that when AVB was appointed the Board 'advised' him to hold on to the vets for one more year with the intent of the big clear out to be for this coming summer. It appears thus that Mike Emenalo was the only person who had a different view in this regard and unfortunately in retrospect AVB heeded the wrong counsel.

2 - In the ongoing player-coach tussle Roman absolutely sides with AVB. No matter what else happens in the next few weeks come this summer there will be a massive veteran clear out from Chelsea no matter what.

3 - Roman`s obsession with the Champions league continues, following the Napoli first leg match when AVB was famously called to defend his team selection Roman told him point blank that unless he gets Chelsea to the Champions League quarters at a minimum he is to be shown the door. This coincides with the immediate change in AVBs public utterances regarding the safety of his position.

4 - The search for a replacement coach is reportedly actively on. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) there are no good options. Apparently the person Roman would like is Pep Guardiola. He loves the way Barca play and wants to replicate that here. Apparently contacts have been made but though Pep has not renewed his contract yet with Barca this appears to be a foregone conclusion, he is only holding out to emphasize to team president Rossell who the real boss is at the club. In other words Pep isn't seriously expected by anyone to ditch Barca to come to Chelsea.

Apparently Fabio Capello was contacted to take the position on an interim position and the don was so offended to be asked to consider an interim position he retorted along the lines that he doesn't do baby sitting.

Apparently Rafa Benitez has been the most interested and would take the position if he could get at least an 18 month deal (This is really scary). It appears that feelers have been sent Jose's way but as most of us know are his terms are simple, he will only think about this if and when he is guaranteed total control of all football matters in the club something which Roman is not willing to cede at this point.

5 - Apparently it is myth that AVB has a lucrative severance package. It will apparently cost the club only £5m to release him. This is much smaller than what we had to pay Carlo. Also apparently because of the amount that Roman had to pay Porto to get him AVBs actual pay is actually rather small for a Chelsea manager, apparently only £2m per annum.

6 Apparently Roman indicated to AVB that despite all this he does personally like the chap (for all that is worth) and wishes him well and so wanted to let him know where he stands so that his release does not come as a shock or in the shoddy fashion we showed Carlo the door.

7 - Apparently Roman has insisted that his decision has had absolutely nothing to do with what veteran players have had to say and there is an insistence that these very veterans are also going to be getting their pink slips come summer. It was indicated that some other persons within the club hierarchy (who apparently Roman deeply respects) have expressed serious misgivings about AVBs capability to execute the desired project, which is still apparently much a priority in the mind of Roman and the board.

It appears to be largely based on this clamour of dissenting and doubting voices within the Club hierarchy that Roman intends to show AVB the way out despite getting along with him very well personally.

Well these are the high points I gleaned from the interview. For me if this is true then the club is in near crises right now as we essentially have a lame duck manager.

The vets can already see the handwriting on the wall both for him and for them. We may never see any quality effort from them for the rest of the season which may essentially bury any chance we have of a top 4 finish.

The other thing I would add is if this is all true then AVB is truly a tragic figure in all this who should be pitied, it appears that this nave young man was set up to fail from the very beginning and in retrospect should have never taken this job..

As Jose said rather prophetically

'The Chelsea job came too soon for him'.

I am not of the opnion to change the coach in so short time but if really the present coach has to go and someone have to come in to it should be Mourinho...Plz owner if you have to change the coach plz forget your ego and bring back the special one or bring someone whom you can absolutely believe on...don't change the coach everytime it the players who have to perform on the pitch not the coach they can all the other stuff but the players have to play.

Hello their, I have been reading a lot of views on the current situation with AVB an wanted to give my views.

I personally was a massive fan of AVB at Porto and how he lead that team to European glory, However I feel he had the best team in Portugal, and in the Europa league. The man is only 33 ( I think) and this was going to be challenge from the very start.

I see where many come from when they are shouting 'AVB OUT' I have been one of those recently, but all the blame cannot be put onto the manager, but shared amongst players, look at most of our team it is an ageing squad, with the likes of Drogba, Cole, Lampard, Malouda who think they are above and bigger then the club, then we have players such as, Kalou, Meireles, Mikel, Boswinga who just simply dont cut it, yet they are on ridiculous wages, I know we cannot ditch all of these players, and it would cost over 100million to rebuild the squad but it has to be done.

Only once these lack lustred players have left will AVB have the opportunity to show his pure talent. Remember at the start of Mourinhos career at Chelsea and how much was spent on the team when he won the league?

I feel that if AVB isn't sacked after the diabolical performance today, he will be here to the end of the season. However if he is sacked how would we replace him with, Rafa Benitez, is hated by most fans and i feel he could never be manager, Mourinho, wont leave Real at this time of the season, to join a failing Chelsea team, if AVB was sacked, I feel the manager would be equal or slightly better skills, and you know what that's what i want.

I feel that AVB is the right manager at the wrond time for Chelsea, he would be better suited to a younger team.
A manager that had a bit more experience such as, Deschamps or Capello, who could whip these current players into shape, who think they own the club.

But remember guys if you are a true Chelsea fan you will support the club through thick and thin. UP THE BLUES!

ML.

I feel sorry for AVB.The midfield except Mata has shown zero creativity throughout the season.Even Torres has a greater number of assists than Lampard, Ramires and Malouda put together, and he is our striker.AVB is trying to playing the type of game that Porto play but we do not have the central midfielders or wingers to do it.This season is gone ,I would give the bloke another season with two or three players that he wants to sign.I had criticized the guy for not being flexible in the past, but I felt sorry for him today, the players were just pathetic. They are the main culprits as they are playing without any passion or hunger. If you are not playing for the manager at least play for the fans.I would rather see players who are hungry like Torres,Drogba,Mata and the youngsters than Lampard, Cole ,Ramires and Malouda, even if we lose.I do not think AVB could do much with such a pathetic midfield.Once we have the midfield in place our strikers (Torres,Drogba)will score. Thanks Lampard ,Cole ,Terry, and Malouda for all the great moments ,but it's time to leave.

AVB should start Drogba and Torres against birmingham as they seemed to be the only two players busting a gut for the team today, when torres came on he showed this, his first touch of the game wasnt a good one and he lost the ball but as soon as he did he ran back won the ball and won us a frre kick

Believable2 Unbelievable0

How can we compliment Torres on this. This is just minimal requirement for a professional footballer

Agree2 Disagree2

Drogba isn't for me, not the force he once was and certainly dosn't put in a decent shift like he once did

Agree1 Disagree0

We can compliment torres because he is the only one in the team doing it

Just got back from the match, people know i think hes too inexperienced so theres no point me repeating it, but i will say there is no need to attack the man personally, you can clearly tell he's trying his best, he's willing every ball in himself, i feel sorry for the bloke today it was horrible to watch a fully grown man unwravel in front of you, He looks depressed, suicidal even and im not exaggerating. Just dont know what to say about it anymore, i want him to stay and do well it must be agonising for him, whether hes good enough or not he hasnt had it easy, but then again should you be ruthless and say AVB out now, at the end of the day i love the club more than AVB,

As a football fan i want him to be replaced but as a person i somehow feel obligated to give him time on the off chance he will succeed, for me its an unusual situation, its becoming bigger than 'football'

SHED END

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Actually, ive just watched his post match interview, im going to give the bloke my backing, maybe for the wrong reasons but i think he should have next season aswel, cant believe ive gone full circle but 'AVB IN'

SHED END

Agree1 Disagree1

I agree SHED I feel really sorry for the guy. Hes out of his depth but the players certainly arnt doing him any great favours. I thought he got the team lineup right before the game but look what happened. I don't know wetheir to back him or not but I have a bad feeling if we do we will end up like Liverpool, unable to attract any top talent and stuck in the Europa League. I'm afraid I'm sitting on the fence for this one.

Badger

Agree1 Disagree0

I must say some of AVB's recent tactics have concerned me, especially the Napoli game but if he was to go whoever comes in has got a massive job to do refreshing the squad. The squad needs new faces and some of the old guard need to move on (ie Drogba, Malouda)

Agree0 Disagree0

We all seem to be saying that both Malouda and Bos have to go, but the club silently extends Bosingwa and is in discussions to extend Malouda. Same goes to Drogba. That is unbelievable, but is actually happening.

The others expect Meireles and Lampardto leave. I just don't see it happening. If AVB somehow survives this season and dorsn't get a boot - hemust be given a huge budget to change the squad. This whole thing is so depressing, that you almost feel that you have to draw aline and start everything anew. I would start with the board and whoever influences or actually builds the team. Nothing haa comeout of our academy, which has a budged bigger than some EPL teams. The aging players are not replaced, rather extended, we do not play our youngsters and ship them out for other clubs to do our job. We are a mess. And it barely matters who our managers is, because at Chelsea too many cooks spoil the broth. This is a job for one man and his team. That has to be addressed in the first place. We have to run the club properly to expect any success.

avb needs to be sacked ...
with him send sturridge too......even thoughhe score goals he is the reason rest of the strikers not getting enough pass infront of the net....
we should play torres more than drogba..
reason : drogba is leaving soon we will be depending on him i think ...even though fernando nt scoring soon he will and he is having enough assists...
then mata should play centrally..lampard too...please sell sturidge..but some better winger..
we should play
ivanovich terry cahill luiz
lampard/meierless
essien/mikel malouda

mata new winger
torres..

and at last sack the manager ...iam far bettter than him..lolz......hope to see better one............

Agree5 Disagree0

How cn you say play Torres more than Drogba?,if Torres was our regular striker we wouldnt be in the top 10,for almost 2 years now hes underperformed, doest look like scoring,a striker should have been brought in in the last transfer window, need to cut our losses and get shut, compare him to the strikers of the top sides and he falls woefully short, enough is enough.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah I have to say I agree with next to nothing that just said mate, so you don't play drogba because there's a chance he won't be here next year ? And a striker who passes the ball is more important than one who scores goals albeit playing as a winger ? And so even if he did pass to Torres , he would probable scuff the shot anyway. And while I don't want to hate on the guy I think he's the one that needs to go.

Hi Ed: I really don't know what happen to some of the players...they are not so bad on the pitch...even when we started the season they doesn't look so bad on the pitch...they are really poor we really need a fresh team to start with...I personally think it's not about the coach what would one do if some of your players is not performing and you didn't have any option to choose from...i really wonder the club policy also...somewhere here i read that de brunye,courtious,lukaku are not for this season and maybe they will not feature in the next season also...so what are they planning we clearly need some fresh leg so why we not going for it in the first place...i suppose chelsea have some plans... i really wonder if they at all have any plan as this does get older in one or two year ....so what are we doing...Plz Ed can you answer?? {Ed002's Note - There will no doubt be changes in teh summer.}

I had said it earlier and i will say it again, we do not have a midfield ,forget about a creative midfield.Ramires is the worst passer in the league, pace alone will not make him a midfielder. He is also bad at tacking and winning back balls.
Essien was average.Lampard cannot run the midfield anymore. He slows the tempo of our passing .Although Sturridge plays as a winger he can neither pass nor cross the ball. Why Malouda plays only AVB knows. If Mata plays badly, the midfield totally disappears. With a midfield like that how do we expect our strikers to score.Torres and Drogba are giving it their all every game and the midfield cannot fashion one chance for them.Look at Man city Balotelli misses two open goal chances and still gets on the score sheet, that is the number of chances they are creating. We failed to make any midfield signings in January, which is just bizarre, look at Man city who made a great loan signing of Pizzaro.Anyway the old guard proved that they are not up to the task anymore (ex:lamps, cole, malouda ,terry etc)and AVB has to give chance to youngsters like Piazon,Romeu in the midfield.I do not blame AVB for our loss today ,the the midfielders along with Cole did not have any passion, and were a disgrace today. The defense did well .The only problem we have is in the midfield, which has to to be addressed as soon as possible.

I have to say I've run out of patients with villas boas I was really hoping we could stick with him and go for glory next year but at this rate we won't get better than sixth place which is really unexceptble you gotta say if roman would sack ancelotti for finishing second you have to wonder how long AVB has before abrahamovic's steel tied boots come crashing down.

.Nova {Ed002's Note - Ancelotti was not "sacked for finishing second".}

I didn't he got sacked because he finished secOnd. What I meant was that abrahamovic didn't see him good enough to keep despite finishing second {Ed002's Note - Er, not that either.}

Folks i'm not an AVB supporter but lets look at the bare facts. The team we had on the field today is possibly the best the club can put out although I would play Torres in place of Drogba. Both have done very little this season however I feel Torres shows as if he is interested. Therefore we have got to be realistic, the players are just not good enough. The manager also has to take it on the chin as he coaches and should also be instilling an attitude where you give everything for the shirt. I just don't see it. Sad to say it but we are looking at being the 3rd best team in London yet alone the league. Alot of work needs done just to get us competitive again. I;m just giving up on this season and hopefully next year will see a turn around with some quality players added.

I'm not sure how everyone on here can blame AVB constantly. The players deserve as much, if not more criticism.

They are professionals, who have all experienced top level football for a number of years. If they can't motivate themselves and put in a good performance, how is that the managers fault. Obviously AVB is expected to motivate them and bring them together, but I truly believe he's fighting a battle that's almost impossible to win.

Vincent

Believable3 Unbelievable1

That's why you have been poor then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vincent, I don't think you can say he's been our best player. He is a liability at the back and one in every 10 long passes of his actually reaches another Chelsea player. When you concentrate on watching his positional play you see he's quite poor and he lunges in at the wrong time. Having said all that, I would love to see him played in front of the back 4 for a game or 2 just to see if he performs better.

Looks good to me but don't you think that with the owner we have we will have signed somebody over that two year period?

I'd like to see an attacking line-up of:

Mata

Hazard Lukaku De Bruyne

If Lukaku and De Bruyne can reach their potential then I see these 4 players as a realistic attacking option within a coulple of seasons. Obviously it would be nice to see the likes of Higuain, Hulk, Moura etc but I think we'd get by with these 4.

Agreed mata in behind, hate it when others play him on the wing

Ed002, Soccernet says that Abramovich is holding a meeting today to consider whether to stick with AVB or hire Rafa Benitez. Is it true? And if true, is there a positive outcome? I want AVB to stay come rain come sunshine! {Ed002's Note - There was no meeting yesterday or today.}
